    Tony Morales is a ridiculously underrated drummer and one of my favorites growing up, his style of playing influenced my style of drumming. He's amazing.

    I was at this show 30 years ago, these guys are best LIVE! Russ did have the best line up back in the day. Put them all back together for farewell tour!

    This is the concert I watched on, I think PBS that turned me on to The Rippingtons. I've been a fan since. I really wish that Kim, David and Steve would get back with the band. Just glad that Jeff is back.

      I take your point, but the newer version(s) of the band turned out quite well. Music changes, the music Russ Freeman composed was different, etc. But be assured, the line-ups were all great musicians. I saw this version of the band live many times and enjoyed the shows a lot. Sometimes there was a different keyboard player. Another great thing was that the group would come out after the shows and we could talk to them, and they were very hospitable.

    I was able to hear Spyro Gyra at the 1984 Newport News Jazz Festival. The early SG was just as impressive as the early Rip's. Awesome music, awesome chemistry, excellent delivery. Just a sweet, "No way you just played that!" kinds of moments...

    All I remember about the one time I saw them in concert is Steve Reid, and the BEAST that he was on percussion that night.
    There were more people waiting for his autograph, than for any other member of the band.
    It was as if he was a cult hero of sorts.

    This is awesome! I wonder why in this and the other live version of Curves Ahead they don't show who is playing the synth intro. It sounds like it was an EWI but I never saw it - and it didn't seem like Mark was playing the part from the video. Am kinda confused, heh... I love this anyway.

    • @kennypr

      Was Russ Freeman and his guitar via midi

    • @crnkmnky
      @crnkmnky 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I was confused too. It’s definitely Russ playing that first synth lead on guitar. 😸

  • @Poltr1
    @Poltr1 14 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think Russ was playing the synth intro line through a guitar synthesizer.

    • @kennypr

      Yes. I thought was the ewi. But indeed was Russ.
