Vintage Hard Case Repair: Replacing and Recovering the Side of a Wooden Guitar Case from the 1960s

I have a problem...I have a crash on the wood box and the box cannot be closed completed. There is some space when i close the box and the latch cannot be locked...do you have any ideas?

I can’t really visualize it, but it sounds like the wood is broken somewhere and is dislocated. I would probably slice the carpet or peel it back at an existing seam, find the obstruction, repair it, and glue the carpet back down with contact cement.
