22 hours on Liftoff and I just finished this series, gonna put a couple more hours in and plan to try my Avata 2 in full manual mode for the first time this weekend. This video series potentially saved me months of awkward beginner stick time risking my real drone practicing.
Thank you so much. You need to start an official online course. It's really easy to learn with your program. You are a really good teacher. Thanks again.
Hey Josh. I cant begin to thank you enough for how much time you put into this hobby, along with how much ive been progressing watching all your tutorials!. Im about 50 hours in and feel very comfortable behind the sticks but where I really have trouble is if I try and fly through enclosed buildings. Not like a hallway but stuff like stairwells, tents, more complex indoor flying, where speed isnt the most important but the very fine movements. I want to be a great cinematic flyer but it seems these tigher spaces (especially the stairwell in the football stadium)(liftoff), is just hard. Would be great to see a breakdown of how you would approach these more precise/indoor type flying for someone whos looking to mostly fly indoor cinematic. Thanks for everything you do!
Hey @joshuabardwell thank you for this series, it helps me a lot & I would like to see this series continues as real life flying fpv drone. Keep creating keep smiling Love from 🇮🇳 ❤
@bardwell - hi thanks for helping me to fly fpv. I started fpv with mobula6 2 years ago but it is too hard for me to learn so i give up. 1 months ago i bought mobula8 and I learned all your lessons and I master all the stun with your helps. Thank you. I hope you can continue this lessons like how to orbit, trippy spin. Love you Joshua.
Thank you so much for all of your content. As soon as I am able I will contribute to your patreon. I do have a question though, at the end of this video you said “see you in the next one.” But I don’t see a next one in this series. Am I missing it or did you just mean generally your next video?
Bought liftoff a couple months ago. Definitely recommended for first timers. Any of them are probably fine but $35 for the Ultimate collection(caught it on deep sale when I was just going to buy Liftoff), you can't beat the saved time and expense of repairing your actual drone while learning.
For the roundabout (using only pitch & roll) the way to do it continuously is counterintuitive. Instead of pithing back-you have to pitch forward as the turn progresses to keep the thrust projecting you through the turn. the roll access is essentially acting as the pitch access in this case.
I occasionally try to fly Velocidrone tracks right hand only, it’s a fun and silly thing to do and surprising how far you can manage to get without yaw and throttle
hey joshua, I have a challenge for you. Can you manage to connect the Meta quest 3 AR glasses to an FPV system? maybe with Walksnail. And if that works, it would be cool to install 2 FPV systems on the quad to be able to fly in 3D.
There is no way to directly connect a video source (like for ex. hdmi) to the quest, so the only option left is capturing the video with a capture card (for ex. hdmi to usb) and sending it to the quest via usb or wifi. The problem with this approach is that it adds a lot of latency, which not only makes you fly worse, it would probably make you motion sick.
@@habag1112 I already thought there would be some problems at the latency. Perhaps you could use the two see through camera input to connect a realtime hdmi s-video converter. Or what ever Protocol that port uses.
Hey Josh, I’ve been watching a lot of your content lately since I’m planning to get into fpv real soon and I love all your work. You’re kinda Yoda to fpv pilots :) I was wondering what rates you’re using in the simulator, is it your normal rates like you showed in another video or have you made it more “beginner friendly”?
Hey josh, looking at building my first 5”. Looking at getting speedybee f405 stack with T-Motor 2208 1950kv running 6s batteries at 1400 mah. Is this a good setup or should I change anything. I could send you the parts list if needed. Edit: also need a charger. Looking at the Hota S6.
Hey i have an issue with my drone. i finally got the motors to turn on but after i throttle up they slow back down to arm speed even though im still at half throttle
Does anyone know if it's possible to use the radio switches in the simulator? I can only use the sticks in the sim, it would be really cool if I could army and disarm the drone with the positional switches of the radio
I only just began my FPV journey and I wanted to ask him this same question. I don't understand why that aspect of FPV is so neglected overall and was hoping the big man could speak to why?
@@ZacharyChampigny I’d assume a steeper than average learning curve on top of an already complex hobby makes it slightly harder to learn starting from scratch. But similar to the transition from angle to acro, normal to 3D seems like the next logical step for freestyle
@@CheeseFlingingCows Being so brand new and having discovered 3d early it seems like you can obviously do more manueavers and if the goal is to be the best pilot mastering 3d seems clearly important.
I purchased one of ur new v2 diy hd fpv builds and im still having issues with the FC and the dji controller 2 not talking. Goggles and controller 2 bind to the 03air unit. Can’t crack the UART combination I’m assuming. lol. Any suggestions? I’ve watched ALL of ur videos thoroughly on this build. Kinda scratching my head.
Hello, make sure that you select the correct "serial rx" uart and, the most important part, go activate Expert mode in beta flight, then go to the CLI tab and write: sbus_baud_fast = ON
Got it!! Your string was close. For betaight 4.4 I needed to wright in “ set sbus_baud_fast = ON “ Then got it swapped to fast in the goggles too and badaboom it worked and finally have dji stick movement in betaflight. Thanks!
I have a question - have you ever met anyone that just could not learn to fly no matter what they practice or how much practice they put in? I uh, I mean someone I know never really got the hang of flying rc helicopters, could only fly with the tail straight at them, slowly, could kind of slow cruise a small area... so after a while that person just gave up. Thought quads would offer a chance to fly but it has not taken hold after hours and hours of practice... very discouraging but I love RC - have had lots of cars/trucks with good results and I really want to have some fun with this hobby. I have Liftoff, Velocidrone and a couple other flight sims... suck in those as well.
@@canadiangemstones7636 terrible advice because the second he gets good enough where he can do more than a slow cruise he will need to spend more money on another setup, goggles, etc. If hes on a fpv channel i would assume he is interested in fpv. Suffer through the sim and get whatever drone he wants
And turn by coordinating aileron and elevator as he is basically doing here. It took me a long time use the throttle, not the elevator to make the quad ascend. And to use the pitch to accelerate and not the throttle. The results of the inputs are very different. I think if I had no fixed wing experience to unlearn, then quad flying would have been an easier learning curve. I wonder how well Bardwell would handle an airplane with all that drone muscle memory.
After a couple of days and many practice hours I finished your flying lesson today. I wanna thank you @joshuabardwell for bringing me into fpv. Can't wait to fly in rl...

Get a dji mini. Go low and slow. Don’t dive into 300mph racing drones that you won’t even be able to hover; gots to walk before you run.
