It's always nice hearing the thoughts of people getting into One Piece. The first 100 chapters are the prologue of the story. Most people get hooked during the 4th or 5th arc (chapters 42-68 and 69-95 respectively), so I'd recommend trying to keep going at least till there. If after finishing the fifth arc you're still unsure about committing to reading the whole thing, then it might not be for you and that's okay, though hopefully you'll enjoy it. If there's something One Piece fans love if hearing people talk about One Piece, so if you keep making videos about your journey with the series you better believe you'll keep getting views. It's definitely a very long series, though, so there's no harm in taking it slowly. Even if it takes you years to catch up and you take breaks, it's about the journey rather than the destination and all that stuff.
I’m excited you are reading one piece! I always love hearing a new perspective! Also Zolos name is actually Zoro, but it has to be changed in the english version because of copyright!
Someone else mentioned that about Zolo as well, and that just makes me laugh so hard! I love that. Makes sense, though. Thanks for checking out the vlog!
Please don't give up on the series. The start is slow and almost cartoonish but it gets SO MUCH better. I would suggest reading until the end of Alabasta arc. I don't know a single person that reached that point of the story and gave up reading.
Based on your reaction to the first couple arcs… you will probably really enjoy this series! I know I read it for the goofy fun, and when I eventually took a break I was surprised to realize how attached I was to the characters and the journey. Hope you enjoy the read 😆
You're in for an adventure. From fun light hearted stories to "whoa where is Oda taking this!" to "i want more chapters". The scope and imagination in this series is stellar
I can’t recommend One Piece enough! If you enjoy the characters and the story so far, it is safe to say that you will be blown away by everything that is going to happen in the story going forward. It builds up slowly to an epic journey ;) I won’t say more for now. I looking forward to more reviews
Algorithm brought me to your video and had fun watching. Would love a series of you reading more of this adventure. As you said, Merphy had a lot of fun reading the series, especially as she got deeper into it (past the first 100-200 chapters). There's a lot more channels doing these blind reviews and analyzing themes and story beats (Daniel Greene, Aleczandxr, Shut up Denny and more) and for someone that caught up with the series a few years ago it's always very enjoyable experiencing it through new eyes. And usually every new reader has some interesting thoughts and opinions on it. :)
One Piece is divided into sagas by the fans. Each saga is somewhere around 100 chapters and is reasonably self-contained with it's own goal and a beginning, middle and end the way one volume in a book series is. There is also an overarching plot that connects the series as a whole and each saga moves the larger plot forward as well. The East Blue Saga is the first 100 chapters. I have heard it compared to the Shire in the Lord of the Rings book. We get to know our main character, set up our goal for the series and have some small scale conflicts, but we don't get more than a few brushes with the larger world. Our understanding of the world and its conflicts takes time to develop though the seeds are planted early. I hope you enjoy the series!
I will also give you a manga recommendation. Fullmetal Alchemist is probably the best manga I have ever read. One Piece is definitely up there too, but I won't finalize my opinion until it is finished. Fullmetal Alchemist is finished and incredible from beginning to end.
good for you for jumping into a long series like one piece! most people are hesitant to even try because of how long it is, but I assure you it's worth it yeah, it's easier to refer to long stories like this by arcs rather than volume, an arc can be between a few chapters long or volumes also I think you happen to be reading the viz media translation, which is, well, not the best out there but it's easier to get for example you refer to zoro as zolo, apparently viz media changed his name to avoid being copyrighted because the name is a reference to the well known swordsman zoro (the character's name is roronoa zoro) I'm curious about the other series that you're gonna read
Haha! I love that tidbit about Zolo/Zoro. Very funny. I didn’t realize there were different translations…are the Shonen Jump app translations better? Thanks for watching!
@@Cinefessions Shonen Jump = Viz Media translations. My only complaint with their translations is that there's barely any curse words when characters get angry or emotional. It muddles the impact for me.
Hey, another new crew member joins! Welcome aboard! Also if you plan to continue with this vlog then you have to start pronouncing Luffy right (Looffy)
I'm glad your starting this modern day epic because this is literally today's most greatest epic that we're reading in real time and the tale and lore only gets better and better upon reread. Totally reminds me of tales like the Odyssey and the Iliad.
Great Choice to be a fan of. Small thing. Please beware of showing the manga pages and panel because Japan has a very strict copyright rules even the slightest issue they kinda goes for strikes than warnings. Just maybe put a watermark over them to be sure. Welcome to the greatest Journey you'll ever read !
Don't worry about video image quality. I love listening to people discover One Piece for the first time while cleaning and treat them like a podcast. Welcome aboard and I hope you'll continue to enjoy the story. I'm happy to see there are a few more videos. Maybe you could make a new One Piece playlist on your channel for easy access. Very nice reading Vlog :)
One piece is absolutely silly, fun slapstick through and through but as you continue you will be shocked by the sheer depth of the series. Oda covers huge variety of themes and topics with a tackfulness and care that you dont see from most authors regardless of the medium. As others have said take ur time with it, the end isnt going anywhere. cause when you get there you're gonna wish you were back at the beginning reading it all over again.
Please keep doing these, One piece in my opinion is the best fictional story out there. Yes it competes with stories like Lord of the rings, wheel of time etc. but unlike them one piece takes its time to build its world, characters, mystery, it’s history, it’s political system, power system etc so that everyone can enjoy it from kids to adults

Always happy to see someone new embark on one of my favorite series of all time. On how many arcs to do per video, imo just do what you are most comfortable with. People in the One Piece community just like to see people enjoying the series. So whatever way best helps you be able to do that would be best. Heads up that starting in the syrup village arc there are these things called cover stories, where chapter title pages will be used to show what's going on in other parts of the world at the time (a single cover story will last for several pages and you get one page at a time with each chapter title page). Again, deal with these however you enjoy best, read them as you go, read them all at once once you get to the end of one, read as you go and reread once it's done (that's my preference), or don't bother with them at all (imo they add a lot to the series, but they are by no means neccessary to being able to enjoy the series).
The cover stories info is great to know...I am not entirely sure how they are labeled in the app, though...I will have to figure that out. Thanks for the info!
@@Cinefessions they are in the app. It's just the first page of the chapter, before the actual chapter starts (For example, chapter 35 has the title page start the "Buggy's Crew: After the Battle" cover story [though for some reason it doesn't start labeling them properly till chapter 36])
Well, when you said "the world's greatest pirate", you weren't wrong haha. Just not the title. I'm addicted to this series and react videos of this series so I'll join you on this journey! Hi welcome to One Piece, hope you enjoy your stay. If you make it through and you like fantasy world building, it will just about make your life. This is on par with LOTR and WOT, and Berserk in the same medium. I have some input though. I will posit a truthful idea to you: you remember what is important to you or what you make an effort to remember. If you are a sports fan, you can most likely recall statistics of players and their names effortlessly. If you liked characters in a novel, you can recall their names and personalities easily. If you have a crush on a girl, you remember her name. Why? You’re emotionally engaged. Or you made a mental association with the name and some concept to help you remember. Either way, it’s because the information meant something for you. Yes some people have better memories and/or trained their memories, but no one is terrible at it. It a muscle to work out, it’s a skill to train. You simply remember things that are important, to you. If you don’t, look into the mirror and admit it was not that important to you.
Thanks for the comment, and for watching! I get what you're saying, but I cannot stress enough how terrible my memory has gotten. I used to memorize dozens of pages of dialogues for shows, but now I can't remember a damn thing I don't write down, lol. So my not remembering characters names doesn't really mean much to me. It definitely means more for some people, but I don't use that as a way to track if I enjoy something or not. Thanks again for watching, and the comment!
@@Cinefessions Thanks for the response, hope I didn't come off too harsh, sometimes remembering things are just not easy (or simple for that matter, to develop a habit or skill on remembering things).

You would probably find this boring, but a series I can't recommend enough for people to read is "Fruits Basket" it's such a shoujo staple. Same for "Nana" more people should read those qwq
@@Cinefessions waah thanks for replying qwq Just a fair warning for Fruits Basket. It's very old and the author was injured while drawing it, so the art isn't the best. From what I remeber it takes about 5 volumes for it to get super interesting and story important. Everything that happens up to it is a setup for what's to come but please don't drop it cuz it seems very dumb qwq
It's not that much honestly. Even if you read casually a volume a day you can catch up in like 3 months. One volume takes like what, 30 minutes if you're very slow and looking through all the illustrations throughly. The hard part would be trying to stop reading since it gets only better and better as you go on. Unfortunately first like 100 chapters can be very slow for some people so you must not give up. There's a digitally colored version online if you struggle reading black and white. You can read it on your devices for your convenience instead of hunting for volumes
Nice video! One piece is my favourite manga, one piece is definitely top class world building. I would definitely try my best to avoid spoilers if I was starting over since it's so much about reveals in terms of the world and characters and things like that :D
I HAVE to say this: the translation is bad with the names sometimes. It's Zoro, not Zolo. Nobody knows why they changed the R in the translation, it doesn't have sense. You said Nami well :) Luffy is spelled like Loofy. Kind like GOOFY :P Arcs are going to be way longer later on, so I think it will be best if you go arc by arc with some of them. Maybe Arlong Park is a good one to make a video only for that one. I hope you keep enjoying the story, is amazing.
Thanks so much for this info! I was told by someone else that they had to switch Zolo due to Zoro being copyrighted here in the States, so that could be that one. Odd to change the others, though! Thanks again!
@@Cinefessions Now a remember! It wasn't copyrighted, they just THOUGHT that it could have been confused with The Zorro, wich is dumb because "Zorro" is spanish for fox, and is spelled with 2 R's. Nobody can copyright the name of a real animal xD With the Luffy one I just wanted to explain how is pronounced, but the writing is Luffy indeed. Maybe I explained it the wrong way? I'm not an english speaker (my first language is spanish). I don't know if that was confusing, but sorry just in case :P
To a lot of people Syrup Village is one of the weakest arcs. So just a heads-up to not get discouraged. It's hard to imagine what One Piece means to a lot of people. Imagine getting 5 minutes of your favourite movie every week for 25 years, and throughout those years it just keeps getting better every time. It's insane and you will get a lot of passionate people by reviewing it if you have the attention span to last.

Just a fair warning for Fruits Basket.
Hahaha! You are clearly a much quicker reader than I am, but I appreciate the thought! Thanks so much for watching!
Great video man, cant wait for the video reviews
Thanks Rob!
Fun Fact- One Piece is the 2nd best selling comic (and manga) of all time.
1. Superman
2. One Piece
3. Batman
4. Spiderman
Oh, wow! That’s crazy that ONLY Supes tops it…that is great info, thanks!
More one piece review please
Loved the video!! I’m so excited for more content on one piece :)
Thank you! I’m excited to read more.
Here take my subscribtion
Thank you!
Very cool Reading vlog Branden. Good to see you change the background for once 🆒👍
Haha! I agree. Need to get more filming spots! Thanks for watching!
@@Cinefessions No Problem👍👍
When reading I recomend the OST from the anime as background music. So many greats: th-cam.com/video/au17TQzkyDo/w-d-xo.html
Aw, thanks! Love music recs while reading. Thanks again!
Avoid spoilers in apps like TikTok! Do not engage. I repeat. DO NOT ENGAGE!
Hahaha! Thanks for the tip.
excelent video, the first 3 arcs are a little bit slow but after that the manga keeps improving, looking forward your next one piece videos
I hear that, and am glad I’m already enjoying it. Excited to see where it goes. Thanks for watching!
its zoro not zolo
its Luffy not Laffy
Nice video! One piece is my favourite manga, one piece is definitely top class world building. I would definitely try my best to avoid spoilers if I was starting over since it's so much about reveals in terms of the world and characters and things like that :D
Thanks for the tip! Definitely trying to avoid any spoilers, lol. Thanks for watching, Gooby!
I have to say, i love your profile pick
I HAVE to say this: the translation is bad with the names sometimes. It's Zoro, not Zolo. Nobody knows why they changed the R in the translation, it doesn't have sense.
You said Nami well :)
Luffy is spelled like Loofy. Kind like GOOFY :P
Arcs are going to be way longer later on, so I think it will be best if you go arc by arc with some of them.
Nobody can copyright the name of a real animal xD
With the Luffy one I just wanted to explain how is pronounced, but the writing is Luffy indeed. Maybe I explained it the wrong way? I'm not an english speaker (my first language is spanish). I don't know if that was confusing, but sorry just in case :P
here we fking go. PEAK FICTION is about to unfold
Hahahaha! I’m excited to continue! Thanks for watching.
Awesome video! Don’t worry about the names, merphy never remembered any names and no one cared haha
Hahaha! Great to know. Thanks for watching!
Great video! 👍
Thanks so much!
there are 2 kinda people one is one piece fan and one who hasn't read it
Hahaha! Nice. Thanks for watching!
Great to know about the upcoming arc, so thanks for that. I can’t imagine having to wait THAT LONG between chapters, lol! Thanks so much for watching!
Are you still reading it?
If not please do
I haven’t read it in a while now, unfortunately. I want to get back to it, though. Thanks for watching!
@@Cinefessions pls do 😊
"laffy" will deal critical damage to your soul if you rewatch this video yourself :D
One Piece is the 22th longest series when it comes to number of volume
Read it til the Arlong park. If you don't like that arc, you're not gonna like ONE PIECE.
Spoilers...
Watch out for them. They're everywhere.
Haha! Thanks for the heads up!
You don't sound ignorant about Luffy, you sound right. Lol
Haha! Can’t say his name right, but at least I got the rest right. Thanks so much for watching!!
@@Cinefessions yeah I wasn't too worried about the name obviously lol we all read a word for years and then find out it was wrong
oke AUTO SUB
Luffy 'u' is pronounced like goofy
Shut up lets goooooooo! Lol
You'll see
lol, thanks for watching!
