The sadistic, lifeless smile Terry Silver has at 2:49 is haunting. Thomas Ian Griffin is such an underrated actor. Still carrying that cold Valek demeanor to this day.
Gotta admit. Silver played this coy, calm, and clever. Nobody saw this coming, not Kreese, not the viewing audience, not even me. This is one of the best and satisfying betrayals on modern storytelling.
To be fair to Stingray, he likely was afraid that Silver would beat him to death had he not agreed to frame Sensei Kreese. He had to betray Sensei Kreese and ultimately, Cobra Kai.
Well, It's how you see it. At the end of the episode 8 Stingray calls Terry Silver "mr. vice sensei". He knew Kreese is the "founder sense", so for me lying about him just to get in, it's called betrayal.
I think on the hospital bed he's realising he's in too deep after making a deal with one sociopathic sensei to frame another for his assault. He's probably wishing he never tried to come back.
@@SurrenderToAction Betrayal happened the other way too. Kreese betrayed him first. Stingray stayed low key and off the team during his probation so Cobra Kai doesn't get bad publicity. He came back when everything cooled off from the school fight incident. But Kreese didn't want him anymore. So he betrayed Stingray and said you're off. Stingray betrayed Kreese back, not Cobra Kai. But I don't know if it should be called betrayal because I'm sure he was threatened by Silver to do it. It's not like he had much of an option.
@@ingleringlet-snipps3rd449 It's what I was thinking as I was typing my previous comment. I don't think Stingray had an option when he was told to do a favor for Silver. Because if Stingray refused, then he would've likely been killed. So I don't think we can even say Stingray betrayed. It's not like he decided to frame Kreese on his own will. He straight up had no option. At the same time, I'm sure he didn't mind because of how Kreese treated him. Silver used that to his advantage as well.
Terry silver may be a monster but at least he rewarded stingray with a bitchin cobra kai car and a bitchin new man cave pad for taking a brutal life inch beating.
No matter how much tragic military back story or sad sob stories about how he “saw Johnny as the son he never had.” I’ll never forgive Kreese for what he did to Stingray 😭
At 7:07 is where Kreese messed up. He obviously would get out of the assault and attempted murder charges because he will have a solid alibi, BUT he made the mistake of committing TWO crimes by resisting arrest and assaulting the Officer.
Terry Silver seemed to be doing okay, until John Kreese slithered back into his life. When that happened, Silver took on the persona of a beast. Through Season 4, Kreese manipulates and guilt-trips Silver into doing what he wants. Silver is seen reading the book Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes which states that peace and unity are gained through sovereign power via commonwealth by social contract. Silver wanted to make Cobra Kai his own commonwealth, independent from John Kreese. The members of Cobra Kai have already entered into a social contract with the dojo. Silver himself became the artificial person that Hobbes describes in comparison to the commonwealth. With Kreese out of the way, Silver is free to build his own Leviathan from the members of his dojo or the bodies of citizens that Hobbes mentions, thus making him the sovereign head of the commonwealth, or "the head of the snake". Kreese triggered Silver, in turn awakening Leviathan.
Thomas Ian Griffith and Martin Kove are both EXCELLENT actors. Both of them should have been in more movies with larger budgets. I'm glad they are receiving far more attention now. The only problem is that that are both 100% perfect at playing the roles of "Terry Silver" and "John Kreese." It is very similar to the way Larry Hagman was so excellent at playing the villain of J.R. Ewing that the only role you wanted to see Larry Hagman play was J.R. Ewing. That is why I don't want to see Cobra Kai come to an end.
stingray is kind of creepy for being in this karate class. I mean he’s a little old. Is he like one of those man child kind of guys? I mean, the dude is hanging out with teenagers at parties.
U nailed it. He's the worst character in the show. A 30 something man-baby hanging out with kids, he's creepy. I enjoyed the scene where Kreese told the truth and when Terry did to him what most viewers wanted to do.
Stingray epitomizes someone who never grew up & is always looking to hang out with the Young Crowd & be hip 🕶️, I don't find it creepy as much as I do kinda sad you would figure would have some friends his own age or meet some people around his own age range 🤷♂️💯.
I hadn’t thought of it that way. I’m in an ITF taekwon-do class, and the main class has students from all age groups in it. I’m actually about Stingray’s age and am a color belt, so finding sparring partners at my age and rank can be tricky at tournaments. It seems to be mostly children / teens at the color belt rank, with most of the practitioners my age already at black. The few other students older than me are either training with their children or are retired.
Karma finally backfired on John- he asked Terry to kiss his a** once too many times, and he got stabbed in the back, there's only so much, a debt can be paid!

Silver was his alibi, so of course he won’t corroborate it. Plus, Kreese was seen threatening Stingray in front of the entire dojo, so that makes his case even worse.
If John Kreese hadn’t been such an ass to Terry as it shows specifically in the end of one episode season four I’m not sure but I believe it’s the episode nine feels Terry. Probably wouldn’t have gone so far to do this and also he was unnecessarily stray to karate to have friends had John Kresse not done those things and had been UNNECESSARILY CRUEL TO People it came back to haunt him BIG TIME 🐍👊

I do wonder can kreese still be charged for assaulting Johnny in 1984 assaulting Dimitri, and once again trying to strangle Johnny to death and cobra Kai season three and the same thing, he tried to kill Daniel and that season
Statute of limitations has probably gone out for the ‘84 incident. It’s doubtful Johnny would prosecute, though the owners of the cars Kreese smashed likely sued. By III, Kreese can no longer find students, so it seems that word spread about his breakdown. Given the times, it was likely seen that he got what he deserved, and it was left at that.
