At least we all know what to expect in a few years when Charlie goes. I wonder if his green tendencies will have him baulk at the thought of a lead lined coffin, or will tradition win the day?
I realized that it so resembles King George V's funeral before him, and Queen Elisabeth after him, the coffins all bore the same items on top, all have been carried the same way, same pomp, same invites of foreign leaders and kings, same large watchful crowds.. the one change is the body lying in the coffin. How poignant that we're just passing through this life. In the last 300 years of English history (ie since the USA was becoming independent), two female monarchs (Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Victoria) had reigned collectively for _over 130 years._
What's more baffling, is that England is around 1000 years old, they've been Queen collectively for a tenth of the time that England _has existed._
Queen Elizabeth I reigned for quite a long time, herself. Over three hundred years ago, though. British female sovereigns seem to reign the longest.
We women always outlast the men.
@@rosez2528 oh wow is that your claim to fame?
@@evernew23 It is just natures way. Women get extra resilience to bear up under their main function.
There is more to go wrong of course. Some troublemaker once said that men’s lives were made to be short and active, while women’s lives were made to be long and miserable.
First born male took precedence even if the daughter was older. Also you need to bump that up to 20%
Matilda
Mary
Elizabeth I
Mary II (wife of William..only time ever dual monarchs)
Anne
Then Victoria and Elizabeth.
0:22 Were those the old 8 bells of Westminster Abbey?
They played at Kate and Willam's wedding did it?
including the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation
@@Jesusismybiggestchearleader1 the bells of Westminster Abbey did indeed ring for the Royal Wedding, but 6 of the 8 bells heard in this video were recast in 1971 and augmented to 10 with the other 2 bells of the 8 (cast in the 1500s) hung stationary as service bells
@@rockpumpkinbloxs indeed they did. Just under 20 years before they got smashed up and recast
What a beautiful sight to see thousands of people without mobile phones. The people are completely focused on the moment, makes it feel so much more emotional.
As opposed to all the people with giant newspapers, vision clouded over by cigar smoke? ;)
You're kidding, right? When do you think mobiles were invented?
Seventy years later, it has now come to past that the daughter of King George VI's, princess Elizabeth who inherited the title known as Queen Elizabeth II will now be lying in state. God rest the queen and god bless the queen.
Not one mobile phone in the crowd. How respectful
Brilliant historical footage from or roots
I wonder if they're looking at this footage to know how to do the funeral? no one who prepared the old one is still alive today probably.
i'm sure they all left behind written plans and notes
I saw in another video that responsibilities for planning major events are hereditary. Passed down to the next generation.
@@mzunnurain they say the queen had planned her funeral since the 60s
duke of norfolk / earl marshal plans funerals, coronation, opening of parliament, etc. and yes, they are hereditary.
I would have looked at Queen Elizabeth's funeral a bit differently had I watched this before, with a sense of normality rather than one of tragedy, enthrallment, captivation and wonderment, and with an acceptance of how it's done and how it goes.
You mentioned the invites of foreign leaders. I wonder if President Harry Truman of the USA and if Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent of Canada attended. No mention of them, nor did I see them in the entourage following the casket.
Fewer carriages sadly. Especially since the Queen was such an avid horsewoman.
Crazy how these traditions havnt changed all these years
It is wonderful to see that, still, traditions on UK's vein still amended in the contemporary (Queen Elizabeth II funeral). How magnificent their reign were imbibed with these traditions who have long started since then
Imbibed or imbued?
I’m here right now watching as the queens funeral is taking place
RIP

2022. They organize the same for Elizabeth Queen. How professional England is.
70 years on another state funeral rip queen

Seeing the former king walk behind the queen’s carriage is such a weird site to see
If it were not for the Range Rovers, Rolls Royces and jags nothing would been different. Would love to hear stores from people who have been able to Witness both. Sadly my father has passed away (born in 1943) and my mother has dementia (born in 1945)
Yesterday his daughter ,our late Queen, was laid to rest with her late parents and sister.
I think with Princess Anne it was the first time ever, that a woman followed the coffin by food. She sets new standards. And if I am not mistaken, among the sailors were women as well.
I wish her husband hadn't marched. The man is terminally out of step...just wow.
@@lawrencewood289Princess Anne’s husband is a REAL navy solider and has more right to both march along and wear his uniform than the royals with so called ”honorary ranks”…. If George VI had lived longer, Elizabeth II would most likely never have celebrated any platinum jubilee.
The two greatest religious heads on earth the pope and the king were fighting off fascism occupation in Europe. My grandparents use to talk about how the British people never forget that this king took ration cuts his home was bombed, and he made sure the people getting bombed never felt alone. And a grateful nation remembers and history will never forget
Elizabeths funeral looks like a nearly exact copy of this one.
watch the funeral of king george v, they’re all the same
They tend not to go in for exciting new innovations over there. That’s a tendency, not a rule, but it is real.
A summary of the attitude I have heard:
“If it is not necessary to change, it is necessary not to change”.
As does King George V's in 1936 and Queen Victoria's in 1901. British Pathé has uploaded both.

The reporting style in those days was very different from today's...
Cool to think that this shouldn’t of happened if king Edward VIII later Duke of Windsor didn’t abdicate
Today I watched that in color
perhaps the next one in VR or "metaverse" ...
the same gun carriage used in the funeral of her majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Do u notice how much fear of God and respect these two sisters had at their father's the king death. Look at Meghan and Kate they do not wear the veil to mourn like Elizabeth and her sister wore.
we haven't had the queen's funeral yet, how do you know they won't wear a veil?
It was such a different time then, women were expected to cover their heads in churches and the royals were expected not to show tears or emotion.
@@jessroche4677 they won't wear the veil because they are part of a new agenda that seeks to reject religion. They use their uncovered hair to show their modernity. Did you hear King Charles say in his proclamation that he will defend the faith? By the time the likes of them are Queen, they will get rid of that statement.
What they do not realize is that humans will always revert back to the truth. Monotheistic religion is timeless. I do appreciate your question and thank you, we shall see how these women show up.
@@jessroche4677 Not that different.
Noone wears a veil anymore… It’s outdated
It would be interesting to know how many people witnessed this and how his daughter’s funeral will compare in terms of numbers. No mobiles held aloft then.

There was many more people on the streets in 1952 - but most people didn’t have a tv back then
May queen Elizabeth rest in peace

The Duke of Kent and Duke of Gloucester are of the many few that are left in that film, really sad, fantastic footage though
The present Duke of Kent, yes. But is that Henry or Richard as Duke of Gloucester?
The Duke of Gloucester in this movie is Prince Henry, the father of the current Duke… Prince Richard was only 7 years old when this took place

I'm amaze that england maybe (i dont really know) are the only country that runs by à king or queen, i mean since 1000 years there's was many many king and queen, and how thing were, where king's daughter married to à german prince, or russia prince or french prince no matter what, in my Book the most suprising think for me its that queen victoria was the grandmother of the Europe, crazy how tsar Nicolas II and king george V really looked like even though they were cousin, (which basically king george V's mother was the sister of tsar Nicolas II's mother) and the keiser wilhelm (emperor of german during ww1) was queen victoria's grandson
They're all related! The Tsarina was Prince Philip's great aunt and also a granddaughter of Queen Victoria on his mother's side, his grandfather on his father's side was Queen Alexandra's younger brother.
England is not run by the King. We a government for that! The Queen represented our country in a way our politicians never could though. She was for everyone and she was special. ♥
