I try to tell people about Rickson and I've only been able to train with Rickson 4 times one private but I got to watch him teaching a class and I swear you couldn't tell the white belts from the black belts that were there visiting training with Rickson. Then back in Charlotte NC way back in the day after the seminar he rolled with half of the guys that went in his line and absolutely tapped everyone in no longer than 1:30 each one before he hugged them then the next. Our private we did position training and everything I did he didn't need anything but to change the angle and was out. Everything I put him locked he say count to ten and was out EVERYTHING! I've been training since I was 17 and after my 10 fight in the UFC I put on the gi and have rolled at several different Jiu-Jitsu gyms with world champions and nothing has been like that. I also have talked with people that have actually rolled with him that are considered great. Just ask Jean-Jacques, Paulo filo, Andre, Fabio, Erik Paulson, he tapped out Kron five times in five minutes before Kron won adcc. It's all true. Henry Akins is the only person who I've met that teaches like Rickson does and shows things that you are supposed to know on your first month of training. Example I took my first class with 50 other people fifth degree BB and he stopped us from hip escaping and said that we all were just cleaning his mats then showed how to do it. The absolute goat
It's just more than his understanding of jiu-jitsu but the person he is something that I've never seen in my life he can feed wild animals birds and squirrels and you would think Disney music should be playing lol I've heard this from people who knew him and went to his house and witnessed this lol I'm a fanboy but it's because I have trained with the "best" almost every top gym except for two and again I stand by my story.
I rolled with Tim Back around 1999/2000 at the Verot School Rd. dojo, he was purple belt training in California at the time and was back home in Lafayette for a spell. I was around 140 and Im guessing he was around 180-185 at the time, and he made me question life a bit himself, lol. If Tim was a blue when he rolled with Rickson I would assume it was around 1997-1998 or so. Rickson would have been 40 if they rolled in 1998. OSSS!
I had a similar experience when learning from Master Pedro Sauer. I've been training more than 7 years, I'm not trying to be ego leading but I know from rolling with many people that I've a very effective jiujitsu....except when it comes to people like Pedro Sauer. I've always heard legend class stories about Rickson, and Pedro also says they are underselling Rickson's Jiujitsu. I'm convinced Rickson made a deal with some deity for god-like JiuJitsu powers lol. JK..
I never get tired of Rickson stories. Hahaha
You guys need to do a series strictly on guys that rolled with Rickson. Please!

Did you ever share the mat with Mark Schultz?

Ask Andre Galvoa about when he rolled with Rickson. He says the same thing.
Man… he would be an incredible guest
