Glad to see more people going to BSFL for their chickens. I went a step further and built a dedicated "grub bin" that I keep out near the coop. It it big enough that it has ramps and when the BSFL are ready they will "self harvest" by climbing up the ramps and into plastic bins. I just feed the contents of the bins to the chickens every morning. The key here is to keep the bin moist because the mature larvae want to get out of the wet material and dig into dry ground to pupate into a fly. I have had it running a month and been surprised how many flies have visited. It will be a challenge to keep the bin moist in the Texas sun in the middle of July so might have to move it into the shade. I figure between this bin and my mealworm farm we should offset feed costs quite a bit!
@@ashwin5626 I am not a chicken expert but I would not recommend you feed chickens any one type of food. They like lots of different foods from insects to grass to even meat (frogs, lizards and mice). Mine have chicken pellets in their run all the time and they free range in the yard in the evenings. Oh and they also love live mealworms but that is another story.
I think we have these! I was so grossed out bc I thought they were eating maggots (which I know essentially it IS what they are 🤣) but our young chicks go CRAZY for them! Thanks for the video!

Hy Robert, I needed such kind of information myself as I'm also looking out for ways to offset my feed cost. Can we replace the entire feed with BSF ?
