    My son's 10 and after seeing my Condor figure in hand, he's willing to put aside some of his allowance money for a figure of his own. He has his eye set on an Urban Trooper and Urban Gear pack. It's a bit of money (for kid allowances anyway), but the fact that it's captured his interest to the point where he doesn't want to save up for a Roblox or a Minecraft gift card for online purchases says something.

    Michael you are exactly right. I used to work for Microsoft, a company that WOULD NOT EXIST if not for the laziness of IBM. Hasbro is being just as lazy and arrogant as IBM was. History don't repeat, but it sure does rhyme. I have 100% confidence that Bobby and Valaverse will go FAR. I look forward to the day where Hasbro goes to Bobby and offers to buy his company and he laughs and says, "Oh, HELL no."

    You're so right about focus being splintered...4 different Star Wars lines, 3 different MOTU lines, 5 different companies making dozens of different TMNT figures, the action figure industry is going to collapse in on itself at some point. There are original properties out there, but it's so tough for new lines to break into the market these days without the animation/comic book dynamic of the 70s/80s/90s. Valaverse seems to be doing it their own way, the right way. Bobby is setting trends, not chasing them.

    Really appreciate your points here. I’ve been totally in on this line since Tony and other’s videos. Got to see the prototypes at JoeFest last year, and my son looked at me and said we had to get them. Bobby, at the booth, said “he’s hooked you!” And speaking of that personal type of interaction…
    I work for a smaller company and the relationship building that Bobby has done is very similar to what we do for our services and wouldn’t you know, customers respond well to it.

    What you said Michael, is true, the toy industry is looking for existing IPs to sell to us, but there aren't a lot that are creating something new. It's the same with cinema, we need to support those like Valaverse, who are trying to break that cycle. I found out about Action Force (original) because of Analog Toys, and because of Tony and you about the new AF.
    I made my preorder for the second wave, and I can't wait for the third. Great video, keep it up man.

    I’ll tell you Michael, I didn’t know much about this line when it first launched. It somehow stayed under my radar, until about 2 weeks ago. I started diving into yours and Analog Toys’ videos on the IP, where it came from, and what Bobby Vala is now doing with it. The community as well, seems so genuine. So with that, I had to add them to my toy collection. Hopped on Valaverse’s home page, and just started clicking add to cart lol. That Crimson Shadow Arsenal pack???? MY GOD. What a gift to 1/12 collecting. I REALLY hope this line continues to evolve and grow through the community and becomes a mainstay. Valaverse truly is something special in a market overflowing with reheated ideas. How can you not support this??? I’m in all the way.

    This line isn't technically "my jam", but the level of quality for a first time figure company is insane. My friends love them, and you can really see the dedication to putting out a great product.

  • @LeonardoTDragon
    @LeonardoTDragon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Solid points as always, Michael. The industry has stagnated in terms of both quality and over-reliance on licenses/existing IP's. Back in the late 70's and early 80's there were NEW lines and NEW concepts popping up all of the time. It was exciting to dive into IP's like ARAH or Transformers because everything was NEW!
    I applaud Bobby for creating a mythos to drive his line as opposed to just a series of generic figures. That is what makes things exciting!

    Action Force is exciting. I love the feeling of being in on the initial release of something new and innovative. Bobby's willingness to be transparent about the process of toy design and manufacturing makes Valaverse even better because he's allowed us to become emotionally invested in the toys and the toymaker.

  • @NerdRageAgainsttheMachine
    @NerdRageAgainsttheMachine 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I have to respectfully disagree on a few points, firstly Four Horsemen has had mythic legion before the inception/ release of the current action force line, with it's own lore as well, I will conceede that it didn't have the buzz of Action Force has enjoyed. Also with the MOTU origins line (admittedly this line is not at all original) but it was a line meant to bridge between adult collectable and kids toy (I can attest to this as I have a fairly sizable collection, and my kid is also in to them). As for your discussion of AF being original/unoriginal (I have only read the first 3 comics) Robotech, and Star Trek, don't really have clear cut villains. Unlike GI Joe (and both incarnations of Action Force) neither Trek or Robotech started off as a toy line and thus did not need a clear cut villain like the other lines. Klingons were only in a handfull of original series episodes, and while clearly belligerent they are not the constant source of woe or conflict like say cobra or the decepticons. while the Valaverse AF may be more than a GI Joe rip off/ reskin, the swarm's similarity to cobra i think has more to do with the format a story for a toy line takes versus the story one tells independently of that. Saying that I do agree that the valaverse line is exciting and impressive (i am still patiently awaiting my BBTS preorder). i just wanted to say my peace on the finer points, and show one can disagree on the internet and do so respectfully :)

    • @CobraSaboteur
      @CobraSaboteur 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @ Nerd Rage. Correct me if I am wrong (please do as I am not 100% certain) but I don’t believe Mythic Legions has created any “lore” beyond the text they put on their site and/or figure boxes. Now, I am not downplaying the time and effort however that the Horsemen put into said Lore they have created but I feel there is a major point of distinction between simply writing text on a site versus spending the time, money and resources into getting a comic off the ground to truly put the story/lore into the hands of the customer. Bobby has also stated that he plans on doing animation at some point and the movie is also supposed to start filming by years end per Bobby.
      Again, I don’t want to sound like I am minimizing the work of the 4H but we both know that Legions is much longer running and more popular brand than this Brand New AF line from Valaverse so I don’t think it’s a “money issue” keeping Legions from truly expanding their mythology into other avenues for their customers, it’s more a choice on their part. To that end, I think it’s quite clear imo that Valaverse is just really trying to prioritize the mythology of the line, not just the figures, as well as simultaneously expanding it and growing the exposure.
      I do believe Legions did something along the lines of going to release/have released a mobile video game though if I heard correctly so if that’s true, good on them for trying ti step up the story/customer experience for the brand cause that’s pretty cool.

    • @NerdRageAgainsttheMachine
      @NerdRageAgainsttheMachine 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CobraSaboteur that’s fair, the lore certainly is not played to the level of having comics, or a movie, but my point is that there is lore, there as well an ML is still an original IP. The push of the comic may contribute to the buzz for AF being more prominent that it was for ML.

    For me, this isn't Action Force.... BUT, before I get piled on by everyone - I don't mean that as a bad thing.
    I grew up with the original AF (well, second iteration) so it will forever be Z-Force, S.A.S. Q-Force and Space Force against Ironblood and the Red Shadows... so this isn't it!
    HOWEVER, I love the Valaverse AF line as a great toy line in it's own right! And I do appreciate what Bobby is doing here, it's an incredible effort.
    These are fantastic new figures and I can't wait to see where it goes... the new figures previewed look amazing, the female figures too look far, far better than anything we've got from other companies... also, the upcoming Crimson Shadow Trooper will feed my love of the old AF, if you know what I mean.
    One last point - on something Michael said - how much of the old AF line licence/TM is up for grabs? Whilst I want all these new figures, it would be great to get modern take on Skip for example, or Dolphin etc. and also Baron Ironblood.

    • @starlord157
      @starlord157 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe on one of the podcasts that Bobby said he wanted to get the Baron but that he couldn’t secure the rights. He also said that the design of that character is pretty unique but that he has ideas on how to incorporate him into this line.

    • @dazblue5515
      @dazblue5515 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@starlord157 Shame he couldn't get the licence - but I think his unique look is the great thing about him... afterall, you don't want the figures to all look the same... perhaps something similar to Director Krennic, with the front panel of his tunic Red... make it more a uniform than a white onesie 😁

    I personally enjoy the G.I. Joe classified series (when I can find the figures) and also bought 3 figures from the Action Force line. I don't think the Action Force figures are expensive, you are getting a bunch of different hands, accesories and other stuff that justifies, at least to me, the price difference. Besides, I think both lines can work together (from a collector's point of view), why would you not take the chance to get some nice figures just because they are not made by the company you usually get them from? I think fans need to understand that "brand loyalty" is not really the best for you...

    Here's the weird thing. That Action Figure Toy Play of Good Guys vs the Bad Guys. That was actually really really new and mostly just came in with those specific toylines Mike mentioned. Prior to Star Wars Toy Companies did not like making Bad Guy Toys. For the same reason they did not like making female "Action Figures". Because they sold so much worse than the hero characters. Yes there was conflict play in the forms of the classic Green Army Men and similar cast plastic Cowboy and Indian figures. But the Action Figure lines of named characters? Very very little. The fantastic Marx Johnny West Line had one single Bad Guy character. The Lone Ranger line just had Butch Cavendish. You could have a crook to capture. Mego started it a bit with their 8" Worlds Greatest Super Heroes and Star Trek lines. But other than the Klingon none of the villains were great sellers. GI Joe never had an enemy (please pay no mind to the dwarf space caveman). Big Jim didn't have any. The first line that maybe had a broader spread of popular antagonists might have been Planet of the Apes? Micronauts had Baron Karza and the Acroyers which was a start. Although the comics made Acroyer a hero. And then suddenly there was Star Wars with its clear factions and team good guy team bad guy. And then next we saw the new GI Joe vs Cobra and the crown jewel Autobots vs Decepticons. All within a span of around 5-6 years.

    Some good points raised Michael. As someone outside of North America Hasbro Pulse or some other sites from the big companies which have the intriguing items I have to go through loop holes to get as they do not deliver to my part of the world. My understanding from Tony answering a question on one of his live streams is that Valaverse would of delivered to our part of the world but it's not currently financially possible for a small company due to the world situation. I can accept that as its something out of Bobby Vala's control whereas a large corporation just won't do it.
    Tony also pointed out a company locally that would stock them in our part of the world. So even though the situation was difficult for a small company they still found a solution.

I have to admit that being British and having loved Action Force the name was what first drew me in. Also Sarge and Steel Brigade but the comics take you on a different journey. The figures open up so much more. This is a new Action Force and it easily sits alongside my existing AF/GI Joe collection. I got to tell you I am super excited to hear a company sticking with a single scale for its action figures. One of the many reasons I've been deeming the toy aisle "the disappointment section" for the last 15 years. One of my all-time favorite franchises, MOTU, not only has multiple different scales, but three different mythologies. What a fucking nightmare. If any kid ever said that they wanted a He-Man figure nowadays, there's a high likelihood they're not going to get the one they actually wanted. It's worse than the Voltron debacle of the '80s.

    I love how this brand has a mythology to it. I've taken my boys to the store and occasionally there have been toys there which just seem like random figures. The comics helped me get hooked on this brand. One thing I like is how there seem to be 3 factions with Action Force, Kerak and his group and the Swarm. That is something I liked with MOTU as you had three different band guy factions with the Skeletors Evil Warriors, The Horde and the Snakemen. As a kid you could alternate the bad guys or team them up or have them battle. Having a mythology also helps understand the characters.
    On the previous Action Force Characters. The GI Joe A Real American Hero line we all love is from a relaunch.

      @@k-dawgbroadcasting5444 lol the big issue will be if Valaverse improves. NECA has literally stated they make semi posable statues, and are not even going to attempt "fixing" anything. They got your 30 bucks for Super Shredder, they don't care it's arm snapped off in the box.
      We'll have to see if Valaverse does, they deserve a chance and they haven't issued a "deal with it" response.

    • @CobraSaboteur
      @CobraSaboteur 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ Daniel Watts. I am not saying you are doing this, but I’ve seen plenty of people that see several posts online amplify and boost the signal to turn it into a bigger issue than it is. As someone who has ordered and currently owns a very large amount of AF figures, I can state that I have had zero issues with breakage.
      My father has opened about a dozen figures and I have opened more than 3 times that with all the troop builders. I understand mileage may vary but in my first hand experience of handling over 50 individual AF force figures and not having a single one break, I consider that slightly more than anecdotal. However, I did follow the instructions provided in the box and heated up all of the figures thoroughly. When it came to switching hands, I found myself heating up the wrists more than once on certain figures. I also keep my house at 70 degrees pretty much permanently so I’m not sure if that played a role in repeated heating but it probably didn’t help.
      Having said that, the very next AF figure I open, could be the first one that snaps at a joint, who knows. I’ve first hand seen my son snap joints right out of the box on 4 marvel legends figures and that’s a toy line that is 20 years old and literally thousands of figures deep so shit does happen. However he does have over 100 Legends so the failure rate is below 4%, which is the important part.
      The question I ask myself when I see someone online post about a figure breaking is this; is the guy who opened dozens of the same figure and didn’t break a single one…also posting online that his figure DIDN’T break? Probably not.
      Now if you opened and posed a Neca figure without it snapping and breaking, than you probably should make a post about that as that’s pretty much finding a unicorn lol. Michael said it best with them…their figures are made with glued together sawdust lol. Neca…what a fucking shit company…20 years of producing figures too, what a joke.
      Calling a spade a spade though, my experiences with AF have not been without frustration. Heating the hands up a lot, as well as feet to fit the stand pegs, did get old. Also, the removable vests are a absolute pain in the ass to close back up once opened and highly annoying. However, I take comfort in the fact that Bobby has specifically stated that he is aware of those exact issues and that they are already corrected for the very next series 2. Considering this line has only just begun, and to know and see that it is quickly shaping up to become bigger and better is just so exciting and was exactly what I needed as a rather seasoned and jaded collector at this point lol.

    I collect mainly mythic legions and a few random brands but I’m really enjoying action force a whole lot! I’m seeing alot of people saying that action force joints break and what not. Yes they are tight but all you have to do like I do is dunk them in warm water and problem solved. mythic legions is the same you have to warm them up before posing. that doesn’t bother me either! The end result is amazing no matter what. My point is these two companies are killing it no matter what. Listen If you open your figures up and start being a brute and manhandle a figure of course it’s going to break. They even include Paperwork stating to heat them up a bit. I wish Bobby vala the best he’s at the top right now nobody is stopping him. Other companies should really be scared and I’m happy he’s “hungry” as you said it’s only the beginning! Great review 👏👏

    G.I. Joe vs Cobra was just a reworking of Larry Hama's idea for a Marvel Comic "Fury Force", where a military force (including a masked man and a redhead) fought the snake themed HYDRA. The initial 3 3/4 Joe figures weren't even going to have villains.

Glad I took a gamble on a brand new line of toys where the only thing I had to go on was the word of the creator that these would be fun. Are they perfect? Nope. No action figure is, but I am really having a lot of fun with these. I made a comparison to someone how buying action figures from the big companies was like buying fast food. The prices are going up, the quality isn't getting better, and the portions have gotten smaller.

    You're right. We do need original concepts and ideas made into toys.New ideas create new lores for kids of this generation to connect with and have as their own stories. And the competition from a new business like Valaverse makes toy companies like Hasbro and Mattel step up their game. There are so many new properties out there (especially in the indie comic market) that could easily be merchandised to a new audience, but the big to companies play it safe going for the easy collector money instead of taking a risk on a new audience. New characters and new stories can get kids away from the video game consoles and get them back into the toy aisle.
    I have to admit toy collecting has really gotten stale. Over the last 30 years I've been collecting I've had Six Wolverines, Three Snake Eyes, Three Voltron Deluxes Two Optimus Primes and a kajillion Batmans. I'm eager to see some new characters hit the shelves.

    Bobby seems to understand what made GI Joe great, which is something Hasbro has forgotten. Exciting characters, Accessory packs, create "offical" character back grounds, mythology, easy to kit bash, and more. It isn't so much as a new script but going back to the original script and adding flourishes.
