    I think it's a shame that there isn't a neater way to plug that SSD into the pie. I wish they had a motherboard incorporated into the little case.

      Vilros has a long history of half-assing things. They always make something _almost_ really cool but then are too lazy to go the last yard and there's always something about it that makes it awful.

  • @SeleAsuka

    I'm always amazed at the things they get to do around this board.

  • @AlexChama
    @AlexChama ปีที่แล้ว +59

    Let's be honest here, to have a nice and clean look to your micro tower with a Raspi you either have a non-transparent case that's going to hook up extensions to most of the ports and route them to its own rear-IO panel, or you make a case that is made for a Raspi Compute Module and you do all ports from scratch.
    The multi-sided I/O always looks like a band-aid solution and once you plug something into every side it ruins the entire look.
    So far no single case has FULLY convinced me.

    • @vadermasktruth
      @vadermasktruth ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't think of it this holistically, but yeah, you are completely right! That would be cool to have a mini-mini-tower with all the i/o in one spot, expanded USB ports, full size HDMI, nvme in there, etc. Right now I'm using the Canakit, and it looks like a Franken-puter when all my shit's plugged in!! Cheers from Detroit!

    • @feahnorl
      @feahnorl ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Argon one with ssd is the case you’re looking for.

    • @AlexChama
      @AlexChama ปีที่แล้ว

      @@feahnorl I’d agree that it at least solves the problem about everything plugging in from a gazillion sides, but it too has not convinced me. I know about the case and it’s probably the best the market has to offer, but it’s not checking all of the boxes I’d love to see taken care of.
      And with one thing I’m not quite certain, that being whether it’s model-specific or would allow upgrades of the Pi itself whilst keeping the case.
      Also it’s not a tower design, but rather horizontal desktop case style, which isn’t bad, I think those cases have a lot to offer, just not what I’m looking for.
      1-2 front ports for USB would be nice as well, for flash drives for example.
      A power button on the front would rock.
      Those are my main points of personal critique about the case.

  • @JimboMidge

    Looks nice, but for the price the Argon One M. 2 case seems like a better value.

    • @labnine3362
      @labnine3362 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That Argon One M2 is vastly superior. Pocket size, full size HDMI ports, more premium look. Right now the best option 100%.

    • @talon12020
      @talon12020 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@labnine3362 Agreed. Can't believe anyone would want a tower case for a Pi 4 when the Argon One m.2 exists. Only downside is you can't access the SD card slot without removing the bottom of the case, an issue the non m.2 version doesn't have.

    I am waiting for the RPi5 before I buy my first one as I'm hoping that this 'Chip Shortage' will be gone in 12-18 months. I like the ideas of two clear sides as then I can go to a local shop and get a custom sides made to duct both the input & output of the fan. My Workstation PC's case is a horizontal version and I can see myself literally mounting a case like this to the left or right sides of it so I can duct the outside of both cases & run the cables from the RPi right in to the PC motherboard. I don't own any sort of 3D printer so I would be buying a prebuilt case for the RPi anyway.

  • @Sitzkrieg
    @Sitzkrieg ปีที่แล้ว +6

    they should have drilled some holes in the side of the clear plastic case. there is a ton of airflow being left out on the table. those tiny 40mm noctua fans would be able to mount onto the would-be side vents to provide really good thermals.

    • @weldonwilson
      @weldonwilson ปีที่แล้ว

    The case looks good but if you have to hang that much SSD cable outside the case then you may as well have the drive itself be outside the case... At this point cases like this need a daughterboard to move the ports to the back and maybe host a power button and n.2 port. This adds nothing over the electrocookie aluminum mini tower case.

    I remember like 2012 there were Asus EeePC and MSI Wind Netbooks with Intel N270 or Z530, but later there were also dual and quad core chips.
