Moyu is back with yet another version of one of their cubes. This time, it's a special edition of the WeiLong V9 Ball-Core that removes maglev and the repelling edge magnets. While it may seem like removing features would make the cube worse, we've found that this version of the weilong v9 hits the perfect balance of speed and stability. We're not sure if this will be a limited batch or if this will just be a new version of the cube, but hopefully you get a chance to try it out for yourself!

If you already have a ball core v9 and don't want to spend another 40 dollars on another WRM v9, then you can make your own cube almost identical to the special edition one with parts of the standard magnetic version v9.
What you will need to do first is to swap springs instead of Maglev in the cube, to do that you need to take out the centers with all they have inside from the ball core and screw the ones from the standard with their springs and dual adjustment system inside of them and replacing the ones with the Maglev.
Then, to remove the edge to core repelling magnets you will need to pull apart the edges and swap the torpedoes from the standard into the ball core edges.
Finally, all you will need to do is reassemble the cube and set it up, it's not gonna be a perfect copy of a special edition v9 because the cube also has smaller magnets in the corner feet (3x2mm instead of the 3x3mm ones in the ball core), but it will perform pretty similar once you break it in and let the springs start getting a little softer with the use (because they can feel a little too strong and springy at first for some people).
If you want to make a perfect copy of that cube performance wise, you will need to put 8 3x2mm magnets on the corner feet, and even if that sounds difficult it's not that bad once you realize that you already have a standard v9 for the mod, because it has an extra set of corner feet that already has magnet mounts molded in and you will only need to check the polarity of the magnets and install them.
It's also worth pointing out that if you have an MGC elite 2x2, then you will have exactly 8 3x2mm magnets that work perfectly for this mod as they come as replacements inside the accessory box of that cube.

A hero among society! Very nice explanation and surely gonna help anyone who was in the doubt!!
so much writing and i didnt read all of it and to answer ur question: never
this aint the place to apply for college buddy.
I'm with Jesse's interpretation, standard should be something comfortable and already feature rich, since we're getting to the point that standard magnetic cubes are getting outdated, put a max featured cube as their "definitive edition" and make the budget cube do the work of being the simplest
I also agree with it mainly coz the RS3M 2020 still exists. We don't need "simple" variants of new cubes when there's one that still stands the test of time.
Personally, I prefer to go with how XMD did their approach of the tornado v3, which is a standard bare-bones version, an "optimized" flagship version with all the bells and whistles that youd really need, and a pioneer version with all the latest tech they can offer. I think this is the best philosophy to go with.
The next version will be without magnets and ball-core but costs $49.99
Lmao 😂
I’m sure the increase in price was for the “limited edition” aspect of it rather than the removal of certain features, but I’m not much of a believer in the “many cubes, different features, different price” business model either… maybe MoYu knows something we don’t 🤷🏻♂️
And without the cube
Everyone else: Has to take drastic measures to slow the v9 down
Me: I like the v9 ootb lmao
bro... me too
Bro I ordered this cube before you made the video about this. it’s still on the way tho😊! Glad to see lots of good things about the cube ❤!
I have this limited edition V9. It is the best WRM of all. Wish Moyu will give it magnet adjustment as an upgrade next time.
Daily routine at MoYu:
Get to work
Pick a cube
Make it new with the same name
2:43 and *I* had to speed my V9 up to get it near to where I like it...loosest screws and tensions, along with some MAX Fleet and Command seems to be my goto setup for MoYu (GTS3M, Super RS3M Ball, V9).
I’m so happy I waited for this cube to be deteched . Easily my most favorite feeling cube of my collection and is now my main.
Glad to see this video after just ordering it!
Just got the limited edition and You are right It is better much better , I am glad I bought this one instead of GAN 14
GAN 14 is very loose, and very difficult to adjust to stable feel. In conclusion, gan 14 is a shit obviously. That's so sad cause I bought 2 gan14 (one for my son that he so desired for own 1 gan's cube), and very regretted about that. (But honestly gan 11 m pro is the best of all gan's cube)
Great vid as usual
The YS3M is a exccelent cube too.
I’m using the super rs3m ball core as my main. I’m probably getting this cube as my next cube.
...I didn't get it
like "we made the same cube but we give you less things and you pay more"
next time they'll sell the V9 without magnets at 44.99?
1:03 that seems to be the Picubeshop Logo, probably a collab with them and Moyu
have you ever thought about how none of us have ever seen phil with a hat facing forward
If I'm not wrong, according with the usual computation that the C. use to do on the white sheet, this cube should cost 18 bucks less then the regular Ball Core version... So to me this price would make sense only if Moyu would include in the box all the removed "tech parts or kits"
heya! So why do many people prefer the cube without edge-core magnets? Do they simply feel that the magnet strength is too much? I swapped the maglev out for springs from my Rs3m 2020 and it feels amazing, but I don't see a reason to get rid of the edge magnets
as I understand it, yeah, exactly because of that magnets may feel too strong for some ppl. SE also has smaller magnets in corner-to-cores so yk im sayin, it's just in order to reduce overall magnet strength and lessen the magnetic feeling of the cube
I love the color of the torpedoes of this cube
I love y’all! Team Cubical for life on God
Omg phil has an actual main now.👏👏👏

@@Vykk_DraygoI know most cubes these days don't actually improve performance but they have gotten objectively better since a decade ago

Late to the party, but here’s my opinion with the philosophies:
The fact is that both philosophies work best with different cube names/brands.
For example, Yuxin Little Magic, QiYi Thunderclap, MoYu RS3, these cubes are budget cubes, why not make a Standard version and an Optimized version for these kind of budget cubes? What about the higher end cube, like the Gan Air series, or QiYi Valk or Tornado, MoYu Weilong, etc? Well, since those are higher end cubes, they should make an Optimized version and a Hi-Tech version for those.
That way people on a budget can have options, and so the people who compete, who may have a little extra cash or invest in better cubes, will also have their options.
Is this one recommended over the maglev ball core or is that still the best option
What about corner twisting? My ball core wrm v9 is twisting once a day. Is this fixed in this version?
When phil pulls out a sheet of paper you know he's getting serious
4:35 I'm straddling the Phil and Jesse views. Base model at the budget price, and the decked out model at the deluxe price. But, with this new special edition that is without the edge magnets, my first thought was: what if I could easily remove the edge magnets from a V9 BC (turquoise)? What if they were all built on the same plastic parts and could be added to or removed from to suit the nutcases like me doing advanced setups? Now, I'm not saying they should be modular like the GAN 356 (which never really liked, though the 11, 12, and 13 are great). But, the place to glue in or the magnet mods should be consistently accessible to advanced (nutcase) modders.
6:25 Damn, Phil. That's an excellent idea. Swapping edge pieces is exactly what I'm going to try, just to find out what it's like.
You can make yourself a DIY Wrm V9 SE (if your fine with just normal coating instead of UV) with a ys3m ballcore and a standard Wrm V9
This is perfect material for the 4 Panel-Anakin-Padme meme:
Anakin: We released a new cube which has less features and technology.
Padme: So it will be cheaper, right?
Anakin: *smirks*
Padme: Right?
I'm a little bit confused. What are repelling Edge Magnets?
I know of
- Corner-Core Magnets
- Magnets in a magnetized 3x3 in the corners and edges (not repelling)
- Maglev: repelling Magnets in the CENTERCAP
But what are repelling edge magnets?
They're actually Edge-Core Magnets. They have the same polarity as the magnets in the core, which makes them repell each other.
@@thesphyrth ahhhh
Okay, thank you :)
The ‘auto turning’ on the WRM v9 is caused by the repelling edge magnets. When your 45 degrees into a turn the edge magnet is very close to the core magnet and they repel, which forces the cube to turn.
This is a freaky gimmick originally implemented in the YJ MGC Repulsion, but I think it used extra magnets in the edges that would repel when aligned with the ones in the corners, those extra magnets were in a position similar to the edge-center magnets of the Valk Elite. Then GAN decided to revive this repulsion idea using core-edge repulsion instead and MoYu did the same. Considering the mixed feeling people had about the MGC R and how some people prefer the GAN 12 over the 13, this feature is far from universally loved, like maglev it sounds cool, but I'm not sure the benefits overcome the drawbacks.
How does this SE compare to the Super v2?
Never whould i ever think moyu prices whould reach gan prices from 2 years ago
Honestly I’m glad it’s limited edition because I can only keep myself from buying it for so long…..
Someone was using a ball core with springs at a comp I went to recently. Honestly I wish moyu did something like the gan 12 where the edge magnets can somehow be removed.

which should i get?: 20 magnet bc, bc uv, or deteched SE?
I think most people will love the SE or the 20 mgnet, btw my main is the v9 SE
Which springs do we use if we wanna mod it ourselves?!
They should all be cross compatible with other moyu cubes
Say, "Rubik's cube,"
4:20
I've never heard Phill say it before.
When I tried a friend's weilong, all I did was crank the compression to max and it was perfect. Odd. But I have a set of extra springs. Might try the mod.
compared to the tornado v3 flagship would you say this version of the weilong v9 is better?
i have a v9 spring swapped and a tornado flagship, and i prefer the v9 because the tornado kind of feels cheap and flimsy in comparison to the ys3 and the v9 however the actual performance of the cubes there’s not much of a difference
@@Rango-Tha-GodI have a tv3 pioneer and I think it absolutely sucks compared to my WRM v9 BC. The corner cutting is no where near as good and it actually feels quite uncontrollable despite it not being as fast as the v9. I find that layers will move on their own during solves, I’ve set all the magnets on the strongest and still have this problem. The WRM V9 BC is the best 3x3 I’ve ever used hands down, it’s faster but more controllable for me somehow. Only downside is corner twists and I find the UV very slippy on my fingers.
@@Liam.2000 i don’t share any of the same sentiments about my v3 flagship or my pioneer, before i got my ys3 and my v9 they were the greatest cubes i’d ever touched and a lot of people have a lot of good things to say about them for a reason
They’re probably gonna release YS3M v2 or something like that at the end of the year

PHILosophical, get it?
This vid makes me want more MPO! @phil
This vid only shows why the TorV3 Flagship is more popular than the Pioneer.
MagLev is definitely for a niche market.
I have both and the Flagship and Pioneer. The Pioneer is much better imo. The auto alignment and magnet setup are stronger and work better, making it bounce along as you turn. I guess different people like different things. The Flagship has one thing going for it over the Pioneer and that's price but I would get the Pioneer if that wasn't an issue.
@@Feverstockphoto
I also prefer the Pioneer when I heard that the Flagship becomes sluggish over time. The Flagship is just more popular in comparison.
@@thesphyrth 👍
At that point, why not just got he standard?
I agree with Jesse
A flagship cube having no adjustable magnets and cost more than 40 dollars. Wow moyu :/
AND A FREAKING SCREW, COME ON
I get the point, but I haven't adjusted magnets in years. I spend much more time on precision lube jobs and center piece adjustment. And, I'm seriously in love with the V9 BC, so even at that price, I bought an extra.
I feel like adjustable magnets are overrated. What matters is that the magnet strength matches the feeling of the cube. And that's why most people competing dropped the tornado for one of moyus cubes cuz it has a more uniform feeling. Tech isnt everything its performance and this performs better than the tornado imo.
@@lopeasez8821 everyone doesn't like strong magnets and they need to set it up for them . And they are literally selling it for 43 dollars and having a split piece design which sucks. I don't what the f moyu been doing

0:06 what was that intro?
What is Moyu even doing now?
When will they make a new 4x4 5x5 6x6 or a 7x7 sorry 2x2 solvers but the 3x3s are good
their 4-7 line is already world class so making new ones would be a waste of money
Apart from their 5x5, their big cubes are already very good, I don't see why they would need new ones
As long as it has springs then I'm in. Mag lev is always too "loose" for my liking.
Btw just got some new cubes from you guys
sounds very fun
does it still corner swist?
much less, at default tensions.
Future they will take over cubing competition’s
I feel like the newer moyu cubes (including the RS3 etc.) with ball cores +mag lev are like over-seasoned food. They have a lot of good stuff in them but all together it's just overwhelming. I can understand preferring less of the cool technology.
I have the V9 Standard and Maglev Ball Core versions. I was thinking of getting another one and noticed the special edition earlier today but decided not to get it. If it was limited to say 500-1000 ever made I would have bought it.
With all these latest versions there's still no update to their now prehistoric AI smart cube! Come on Moyu sort it already!
