    35 years of mixing and trying to scratch and you’ve broken it down beautifully. Thanks and subscribed ❤

    Yes this was a great example! Simple start point and exercise of the hand and after many repetitions, and patience, I'll learn yes!! I like this video because he concentrates on exercise as opposed to just a person scratching so fast that we don't know what he's doing, Thanks Dj Blighty - this was filmed in 2018 its 2020 now, I got a lot of catching up : )

    The baby scratch comes in handy when you're beginning to learn how to scratch, I like the chirp, transformer and the forward scratches they require a little more skills that's why it's a challenge for me learning how to scratch and mix with similar techniques.

    • @DJBlighty
      @DJBlighty  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to start everything slow & build up one step at a time. It's taken me years to build up speed with more complex scratches. Patience is key.

    This was super helpful! One question though, do you find yourself scratching on one deck (left or right) and playing tracks on the other? Or is it good practice to be able to scratch on both decks?

    • @DJBlighty
      @DJBlighty  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Happy to hear that Rohan. It's all down to personal preference. Some people like the left or right more, some people are just as comfortable with both. Just do what feels most natural to you.

    • @emceeunderdogrising
      @emceeunderdogrising 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You do both. A DJ when flipping records might have to scratch after switching sides on the fader.

    Entroducing by DJ Shadow changed my life years ago and inspired me to want to make music/ trip hop that uses samples ( particularly from horror movies). I don't really see it as a potential career, more like a hobby putting albums together where I bring my love for music and horror movies together. Think trip hop acid jazz and music/ effects/ dialogue from horror movies..
    The problem is, I have zero idea where to start, and I'm not going to be able to ask DJ shadow for advice - so any help? Am i looking in the right area here? Is there a difference between being a dj and what dj shadow does?

    • @kemurinine4272
      @kemurinine4272 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah DJ shadow is awesome, definitely watch some more tutorials here sounds like you'll want to do a bit of sampling as well. I'd recommend just starting out with a DAW and use that to sample loops, dialogue off the internet its alot cheaper and easier than doing the real thing and going crate digging. Also work out where DJ shadow got his sample froms so you can learn how to look for the right kind of samples In the right places, I think he sample David Axelrod alot

      Years to be honest Rich, it takes a lot of patience. Some people grasp it more quickly than others, it all depends on your co-ordination skills. That's entirely up to you, I think everyone has a side they prefer to scratch on though.
