I watch a lot of James Turner and DrGluon videos, and I'm always shocked by how often the game just plain doesn't do what they want to do. They are constantly fighting sims to get them to do the commands. I don't understand how EA isn't just embarrassed by their own product at this point.

The last DLC I bought for the Sims 4 was the Werewolves pack. I decided after that one that I’m no longer buying anything else. It was a pack that I enjoyed, but I completed the gameplay aspect within a couple of hours and after that, I was just like “now what?” It made me realize that I would get so excited about new packs and romanticize new stories for my sims only to realize there’s little to absolutely no gameplay and it’s basically just slapping an enticing and glittery bandaid on a piece of crap.

    • @Melissa-sx9vh

That's why they introduce a new EP/GP every few months, so that even if you got the previous one and got bored of the lackluster gameplay you can now buy the new one to feel some excitement before getting bored of it in a few weeks and doing it all all over again, it's a vicious circle.

My problem with Sims 4 is just that all the thousand things that exist have no substance. It doesn't come together. Everything comes down to some progress bar filling up (relationships, skills) or some animations being played (first clumsy, then normal, then exaggerated). But what doesn't happen is that great life stories emerge from all the features, DLCs, and possibilities. I completely miss the social aspect in Sims 4. They throw in thousands of dialogue options, most of which are completely meaningless and just play some animation and fill progress bars. Friendships just lead to you being annoyed because the phone rings every 5 seconds and you can't really do anything with friends except fill progress bars together. As a player, you don't really form a bond with your Sims because everything just leads to silly animations. You have a million collectibles without it bringing anything substantial to collect them. Millions of recipes but they are basically all the same, you don't impress anybody with super nice meals like in Sims 3. Everything in Sims is somehow just shallow or annoying, like when you're doing excavations and constantly getting mail and the corresponding message with some findings. Every achievement leads to the game punishing you with annoying things. And yeah, then all the bugs on top.

I don’t feel calming ambiance which older Sims had like there is other world and life in the game. Sims4 is just a game. Not bad as a computer game, well it’s good. But this isn’t what I would love to have with Sims. It misses a lot.

I think the biggest issue with games being “worse” nowadays is because we as consumers allowed big distributors like EA etc. to get away with it. EA are not publishing games because it’s a passion project, they’re publishing games sorely to gain financially. As long as consumers keep buying lacklustre, buggy games, they’ll change nothing and even push the limits.
There’s a reason indie games are so popular nowadays too. Indie games are most of the time actual passion projects. We really need to understand that the only ones who can turn around this negative development are US. If we don’t pay for half assed games, we will force big companies to push out better ones.

*This*. Also creating an environment where some community members are given access for glowing reviews creates a situation where if there are genuine complaints the community will often feel loyalty to the influencers and go on the attack. It also creates a situation where influencers don't want to be critical in case they lose access and appeal to their fanbase. Its very cynical.

The only problem i have with the sims 4 is that there's no challenges or consequences unless you have mods. Its crazy to me how easy it is to make your partner like you again if you cheat on them. I remember in the sims 2 it was so hard, especially with the fury system, i couldn't even amend the relationship without them automously starting a fight with my sim. Or how if your house was messy, you could get roaches and get sick or if you bought something expensive, there was a risk of getting robbed. There's nothing like that in the sims 4.

I think a lot of the issue with TS4 is that it's been 9 or 10 years now and whatever coding is left of "project Olympus" could have and should have been fixed. There was even a giant gap between base game and the first packs being released. Who is deciding on how many bugs they can fix per month as well? It seems like so little and usually incredibly odd bugs nobody has ever seen before. Pair this with COVID and the fact apparently every dlc release has had fewer and fewer people working on it with less testers too. Not to mention the cinematic trailers and over hyped content. Then add in the fact nothing is tested with all "currently released" packs until the present causing gigantic oversights in bugs that have broken the entire game with nearly every release of dlc. There has never seemed to be a sense of urgency on fixing the bugs and glitches and there's definitely not any urgency on fixing the code from base game which is the foundation of the entire game and all dlc. Instead more content gets added onto the pile making it hard to fix anything at all, which is the very reason many of us are in the comments saying we want "fix the game pack" over anything else.
All that being said... TS4 isn't really an awful game. I do have fun when playing the game, but I can tell how much of a pain it is to get my sims to do basic fundamental things that are in the base game. (Sleep, try for baby, have conversation, etc). Other times... it cas where male sims have much less, infants-elders are left out, or the straight chaos of having more than 4 sims in a home constantly dying. I should not need mods to fix the game for all these issues that are wrong because nobody that created the game is saying "I should fix this".

Personally, I like how all the gameplay elements of The Sims 2 & 3 flow together more easily than in The Sims 4. The developers took the time to actually interconnect all of these things so that it's a more realistic and more streamlined experience overall. The Sims 4, however... feels more like a series of patchwork features that bump into one another instead of adding to each other's gameplay. They just feel really disjointed most of the time.

  • @ViceCityExtra
    @ViceCityExtra ปีที่แล้ว +10

My issue is also that they keep adding but not multiplying if that makes sense. For example, they add a new social media but we already had a previous social media, but they don’t tie well together. Wouldn’t it be better if it expanded on the already established social medias like simstagram. Cause it doesn’t feel.. rewarding and as you said its more confusing than anything when they add this like socil media career where you collect followers but we also have social bunny etc. It would be better if they instead ”lock” features of the same social media used in sims 4 by the packs rather than always make a new one.

I've said it before and I will say it again: ts3 is NOT expensive. On steam I got the basegame for 20€ and then a bundle with about 20 dlc for another like 70€.it's like paying 90€ for basegame and all expansions, which is not expensive, and then getting most stuff packs for free as a bonus, which is nice even though nobody needs stuff pack. All I had to do now was not buy the junk from the ingame shop and voila, ts3 is the game with the by far most bang for the buck.
Only trouble is that kinky world cannot really compete with wicked whims.
Edit: of course the bundle / collection was on sale when I bought it. But it's the same with ts4: you don't buy between sales. Never. Ever.

SIms 4 is like an unsorted file cabinet. Instead of everything being organized everything is a stand alone file that never offers a subcategory to properly sort things. The pets expansion if it were a file should have been "P" and should have had all animals players can interact with sorted under it as sub categories because things like vets, pet treats and craft-able accessories for pets should have spread to the horses pack, cottage living, first pet stuff, and fishes (including the ones from get famous), but it doesn't. The game is just a bunch of abandoned features instead of enhancing features.
Imagine if vets could treat horses, chickens, llamas, rabbits, and birds. A simple rabbit hole add on that ask which pet is ill is still better than literally no pack compatibility.

I haven't played Sims4 since before Horse Ranch came out. I have been playing other games (especially Wylde Flowers which I seem to have become a bit obsessed with!). This week I started a new Sims3 game and it is amazing. I'd forgotten how hard it was to do stuff, for example getting promoted actually depends on the factors specified, getting pregnant can take multiple attempts and making friends needs work. There is also so much available to do that you have to LIMIT yourself to a certain game type. I am playing a legacy game starting in the poorest house and working my way up. This is so much harder than in Sims4 and is actually satisfying when you reach a goal. I am trying hard to ignore the portal cos I know that will just send me down an ever increasing rabbithole (changing the future, exploring the wasteland, learning robotics, etc etc). I think my ideal Sims game would have been Sims3 gameplay with Sims4 graphics. xxx
I just wanted to add that at this point I wish EA would gift Sims4 to the modding community because without them the game wouldn't be worth playing even with every single bit of DLC and they fix most of the plethora of bugs that plague the game.

It is not an exaggeration, rather it is a reality, I never really liked the Sims 4, I feel and will continue to feel boring about the game, I do not think that the game itself has made many improvements compared to its predecessors and if it did, there are in things which, at least for me, never caused a great impact or fun when playing. Well, at the end of the day this is my opinion but it comforts me to know that I am not the only one who thinks this way.

I have played since Sims1. Don't remember a lot about the first one, but I still remember families from both Sims2 and 3. I got emotional when they died. I don't remember anybody I created for Sims4.. I can create them and a home, but when I start playing them, I keep getting interrupted by some social event, or offer, or the game pushing me where I don't want to go. If the SIm has autonomy they don't do what I ask, but randomly do pushups or try out each seat at the table like Goldie Locks. I feel like I am constantly fighting the game to tell the story I am interested in. That is not how it was in 2 or 3. Random things would happen, but still the story felt organic. Sims 3 got performance issues as it grew, but there was a modder who fixed almost all of that., EA could have just incorporated those changes. Just like they could certainly cut a deal with Carl and get Dine Out fixed. Haven't played since early spring when my hard drive died and no plans to reinstall.

My take: I’m not mad at the Sims for not being a perfect game, for having a lot of set dressing, lacking complexity, etc., but what is just despicable is having features and releasing DLC that are genuinely broken and don’t function. I think that fact warrants any and all criticism of the game. Good grief, it’s just so shameful to shill DLC that does. Not. Work. As long as things are broken, I will keep shitting on the game and EA. This is unacceptable for large market games and only the Sims community lets EA get away with it. Ever played Madden? It’s seamless and it must be because nobody would play it if it were broken. Ugh

It seems like there was no plan for the sims4 and they're flying by the seed of their pants. Almost as if they're like "hm what can we release that will make us more money?" instead of considering what would make the game better and more enjoyable. It's made obvious they don't (for whatever reason) go in depth enough in one pack so they make a new pack to go a little bit further in depth. (ie cats and dog then my first pet stuff) I wouldn't mind paying for all the packs if they each truly added so much more to the game. So many of them I can't justify paying for.

One big issue with this game is how it lacks in cohesiveness . By splitting up content into various little packs, the game feels incredibly disjointed . Not to mention how most of the features introduced in the sims 4 lack depth compared to sims 2 and 3. EA really lost the plot with this game. The features they chose to concentrate on do little to add depth to this barebones game.

The realism is gone, the creativity is gone, the whimsy is gone. The Sims 2 is amongst my very favorite games for all the reasons I just listed. It feels realistic but also whimsical and creative. I loved playing it growing up and I'm dying to play it now, again, as an adult. The Sims 4 is just corporate greed in a nutshell. It's so disappointing in so many ways. It reminds me of Disney now vs Disney when it first began. They're both plagued and overtaken by woke ideology and it's so saddening to see.

I remember in sims 3 that you could go anywhere on the map and try things out and it would be rewarding, you'd find stuff everywhere.
But in sims4, the other day my sim went to vacation and there was nothing to do?? I just sat in a house or went to the local pub, whick was pretty much the exact same thing as just being at home

I think their mantra has been, “Keep them wanting more” for the entirety of TS4. It’s a good money-making strategy, but it’s been incredibly frustrating and has often backfired with players. I used to be this disenchanted with the game and took long breaks before Seasons finally came out - it took WAY too long for that, imo. Yet, whenever I’d try to go back to TS3, I’d miss the new features of TS4 that I saw as necessary. For example, multitasking and the ease of just getting another sim to sit with my sim or be in the same room as mine. Sometimes it’s the little things that improve quality of life to the degree that I won’t go back. I also feel very “been there, done that” with TS1, TS2, and TS3 (I started playing in 2001, been playing all my adult life). The latest updates alongside Growing Together have finally made the game feel almost complete for me. We do need cars, though. Anyway, yes you’re a bit dramatic and critical (infants have some bugs but I still enjoy playing with them) but we all have our non-negotiables and yours are different from mine, and that’s ok!

      @babajayne ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@shro_okee Yes, I love TS4 build mode. Details like spandrels and roof trim can make a house look really polished. We can also make them look more realistic using moveobjects and objects can still be usable, when I rarely used it in past games because the objects wouldn’t be usable. Rooms looked sparse then, and more lived-in now, which really adds a vibe.

I am bummed out. I spent quite a bit on several packs etc. - only on sales, but still. And over time I kept hearing that Sims 3 seems to be the better version. (Like Sim City 4 and 5, yeah.)
So, somehow I wish I had gotten Sims 3 back in the day - and basically skippel lots of the packs I got, because I never really played in them, as the features they claimed to provide were rather shallow. I even sometimes think that I remember stuff working better and more thoughtful in Sims 2 even.
Biggest gripe to me is that Paranormal - while being the biggest and best pack in its "price range" - just feels like gardening ... As a gardener you read (seance) to skill up and tend to plants (remove scary objects) - it just doesn't feel anything like Phasmophobia or Ghostbusters gameplay. Thing is, awaiting to be able to somehow be able to recreate Supernatural in some basic way I also got the Vampire and Magic packs.
And noone will be able to explain to me why I ever got Eco Lifestyle ...
In the end I maybe should only have gotten Jungle Adventure, Get to Work, Seasons and Pets.
Because in the end many packs give you just a time saver - e.g. University and Tiny Living basically give you faster skill and career advancement - or add something you would expect to be in the game from the start - like Seasons, and maybe High School and Pets.
(Yeah, in a way I would like to have my money back - or get some packs free to appease me! ;P )

So when EA the big conglomerate took it over they didn’t want to be bothered with the old games because they want to push this new lackluster boring game. How do you have a game that has no transportation system they just disappear and appear somewhere else?
The game is just going down the drain every time they do a patch every time they add another pack is it going on the dream at this point the game is at 58 GB and that’s not even with all the kits! They ruined our game

I just realized that I was bored in sims4. Having played Sims2 for hours and Sims3 for hours without getting bored, I have come to prefer solving sudoku instead of Sims4. I don't buy new packages anymore. It just seems like a money pit to me. I've made my decision, I will delete Sims4 completely and continue with the old series. I play for the mods, and the long lifespan of Sims 4 means it has accumulated a lot of them. But unlike in earlier games, I almost exclusively play single-sim households. The core features of Sims 4 are those that bother me the most: Emotions and multitasking. If my sim tries to get anything useful done, other sims will quickly notice and start disturbing them with endless chatting and joking. I would not mind multitasking if it did not slow down the original task, but it does, just like in Real Life. (There is a reason why productivity shot up when we started working from home.)

When I was a teenager I used to play Sims 1 to 3. But I stopped playing the game years ago, until one day my boyfriend told me he just downloaded the sims 4 basegame because it was free. So I thougt: "Nice, I always felt like I wanna play Sims again but unfortunately I lost all these expensive CD's and I didn't wanna buy them again". I started playing Sims again a couple of weeks ago and immediately got addicted. For me the reason why I prefer Sims 4 over Sims 3 is because it's just new, I was bored from Sims 3 at some point. And there are so many funny mods. Also, I am mainly a builder. So that's why the shallow gameplay doesn't disturb me that much. I prefer to let my sims just do their thing and cheat their moods. I mean, I spent so many hours on sending them to toilet, to bed, to the shower etc. ... I'm simply bored by it. When the Expansion packs were on sale I purchased two of them (only after watching your brutally honest reviews), so I'm looking forward to play with my chicken, I didn't yet finish building my farm though ....

Quick q. Why do I keep hearing how this game is a sequel! Its not... Timeline wise, its an AU. It was never meant to be lore heavy. It was meant to be bare bones, "here's the framework, build the story" sort. I'm not speaking of the bugs but of people saying that it's worse because but does not have the lore or the complexity or such.
Now to the bugginess. It's basically an outdated code that they constantly have to create a pack for and figure how to add in without collapsing what works. Its over complicated in its own basic code. But honestly, just from a practical point, the engine it's in... How realistic is it that they could switch it to a newer one without taking years to rebuild it. In that case, they would actually build a NEW game, not TS4.
Which they can and one day will. That's what we assumed Rene is/was.

TS2 is the best in the franchise. So much bang for the buck. I'm glad I got the UC when it was available for free. I have all the physical discs, but the download is better for new systems. I still play it and just played TS1 last night.

thanks for speaking your mind and actually telling the truth. its such a shame because all they had to was expand on the sims 3 and update graphics etc. there is a massive amount of fans of the game and its amazing how much they have just ignored what actual sims fans want.
life by you looks more like what we all want and even paralives as well. the sims 4 is an empty, lifeless game. its lack of open world and the stupid way the emotions and whims work is just terrible. I played sims 4 for like a few months and just went straight back to sims 3

I agree with you. Past games were like a delightful orchestrated album whereas The Sims 4 is like many loud noises mashed together in a mess. Unnecessarily convoluted but lacks depth.

The problem with the Sims 4 is the base game. It will always and forever be held back by the fact that it was developed originally as a mobile game and that framework still exists. It will always be limited and held back by it's foundation. One of my favorite games Final Fantasy XIV has the same issue.
It was built on the bones on the a bad 1.0. That code still exists and heavily affected the game during the release of the last expansion.

TS4 appears to be loaded with features but doesn’t have the same depth as previous games. With TS2/TS3, if you thought something was possible by basic reasoning, it was! Previous games felt like every feature could be connected to another or utilized for storytelling across all your sims. And even if you didn’t use it for every family, the world still felt like it contained the features of that pack and your game truly expanded. But features in TS4 are only useful for this one single scenario (if you’re even into that), or this one world, or really this one sim.

I like the drama and chaos of Sims 2, when olive Spector is in your welcome wagon she will start a fight with one of the other people in the welcome wagon. They also set you up with options for storytelling.

So for me personally, I never noticed how dog shit the sims4 was however my fiancé did. He is adamant that the s4 ever since launch, is absolutely trash. And I never really played it to be challenged or anything more just to torture my sims and level up in careers, but after a while, maybe like 4-6 hours in a save, I would be so fucking bored. I’m autistic so a few hours playing a game I’m hyper fixated on is like nothing to me (especially since I have over 2000 hours in the sims 3 versus less than 500 hours on the sims4.) it’s so boring after a while and geniunely It feels more like playing with Barbie’s than playing with sims. I liked the sims 3 because they felt real and I could create stories inside the world (unlike in the sism4 which is just jpgs popping up in the corner that has nothing in terms of impact to gameplay)

My fave part of the sims 2 was the aspiration aspect. If I remember correctly when your sims had low needs and / or their aspirations was not completed, doing well they became mad and crazy. They used to lost their mind and then a doctor could come into your house to fix your sims. That was so sad and funny at the same time

The only reason I "upgraded" to Sims 4 from Sims 3 is that my computer (and the game itself) could not handle the open world concept, even with QoL mods. Sure, Sims 3 is better - but at least I can actually play Sims 4.

I think one of the biggest issues is that players including youtubers do not know how to utilise all the in game features. For instance I watched satch tell his audience not to buy eco lifestyle because it was bad or broken. Just because he didn't know how to change a nap or vote via the mailbox.

Yes! I would definitely play the Sims 2 again! I loved that game and I played it for hours and I stayed with the same family for months - while in Sims 4 I just keep making new sims - play them for a couple of days and then I get bored with them and make a new one (which is just like the previous one even though I try to make them as different as possible...)
