I am retired from board repair. The move is done, we are settled in, and the transfer of my recording setup to Chris is complete. He's been here for four years now and outshines me as a technician in every area - logic board repair, phone data recovery, SSD data recovery, hard drive data recovery... pretty much everything. You will learn a lot more from him than you ever learned from me. If you want Chris to work on your stuff, rossmanngroup.com !
He's Kinda skimpy on the flux though, I guess it's just I'm...no judgments, I'm used to seeing a small lake of flux shimmering in the light, I'll adjust, but damit Louis, kinda feels like I lost a friend today. Gonna miss your rants, your occasional unintended prophetic insight and most of all, the honest sincerity with everything you say and do. I'll miss the bike rides you took us on, how they let me see NYC through the eyes of an ordinary New Yorker. Thanx for letting me get to know you over the last few years Louis. Always know it was our desire to learn something that gave us the opportunity to meet you, but it was you character that made 1.75 million of us to want to come back.I'm not sure if it's the soft whirling of the fan or the pauses between saying something, but he would make a fantastic Bingo caller.
Great work Chris. The controlled chaos of the desk is how you work. Dont be ashamed if it works for you. As we have seen you can definitely do great work 👍
Chris could mention some details of his practice like his hand wobble when measuring resistance to probably reduce the probe contact resistance, or when using low temp next to ssd he used his iron on both sides to take off the caps and he didnt mention that it could be a tip to do it in lower temps( in dead silence) BUT i love him anyway, he sounds very polish, i am polish myself so would love to hear that he is and also sorry if im wrong about what im saying cus i never even smd soldered. Chris just do it more and you will be a great learning tool for all of us! Thank you!
A friend once spilles juice into their MacBook but the device continued to work. Fast forward a few years later, their battery finally wore out and Apple flat out refused to replace the battery for them when they saw the stickiness inside the case. They offered to pay Apple and they even voluntarily stated that Apple could deny a return or a warranty claim on the battery if there was an issue. Apple refused to take their money. When all these parts are serialized so only the manufacturer can make repairs, we are doomed.
Is Chris from Poland? The accent is really similar to those of my Polish friends. Amazing board repair video and hope to see more from Chris or other employees :D
Actually here in Europe we think that Poland is the best country in the whole world. They pay money (worth 1 month salary) for every child. Monthly. Until the baby is 18 years old. I wish I was a polish-ed father.
@@vicmac3513 No? It's 110 dollars per child as long as there's 2. And the minimum wage is at least 400$. Still good enough stimulus to keep the child in better wellbeing though. Also, what's with the random political statement.
@@AhegaoFace what political statetement I made? If that's true, then my polish workmate exaccerated the number pretty highly. But getting 1/4 from your monthly salary for having kids is still much better than any other european country. Chris, please do a M1 board repair if you have one in a que Also a question. Can I dry the liquid from a MacBook or any laptop by placing in a vacuum oven ?
Vacuum yes. Oven no. 40C max temperature, or leave it at room temp. No need for higher temps. But it’s a vacuum oven so there is no convection heating. You must tack the temperature sensor to the case! That’s for an oven with direct radiant heating. For an oven with indirect heating, ie. heated walls and no direct radiant heating, the temp sensor built into the walls is ok.
In two decades I never bought AppleCare, never had issues with iBook, PowerMac G5, Mac Mini, MacBook Pros. My bias is I’m against buying insurance. I do not agree with pooling money to benefit clumsy people in the form of insurance. People can learn about their soul through accidents. Insurance just helps people remain ignorant. I rarely drop my iPhone, but when I do, it’s because I communicated something unloving and my soul dropped a little lower in love. I choose not to repeat those ways to keep my phone free of needing a case, and free of damage. Learning to repair my own stuff is exactly what I’d do if I ever did have an issue.
Apppe genius just makes rich people feel good about how stupid they are to give their money. That's all. I never seen dumb person going to them with apple care and they telling her is $2k to fix it. But for 3k you get a brand new one and this person was so happy happy 😁😁😁 never seen anyone act like that
wouldnt it be better to just apply heat for longer than less than one second to instead melt all the solder balls on the back of that flash chip? seems a little silly to leave solder balls

bullshit, Louis you are the best board repir teacher of all time. however your kids are doing good,
Hi Louis. Who do you recommend to repair another manufacturer such as a pixel phone? Or will you guys handle that as well?
Chris is awesome repair human, however the self depreciating funny guy still has a special place in the hearts of many, no one will replace that.
I guess we'll have to watch reruns to see our favorite snarky (ex)New Yorker using "the right amount of flux"
You can no longer randomly take jobs out of Paul's queue, hehe.
_Safety first. Coffee next._
Amen Chris.
Louis grew a beard and acquired an accent.
It is good that the liquid damage was still fresh as opposed to having time to really set in. Nice repair, good work.
ACTUAL genius is not an overstatement
Chris is a tech wizard 🧙♂🪄
yesssss i missed the board repair vids
Jack Bauer is calling in the beginning, pick up. He's probably saving the world again
Since he's smart enough to use a recent version of the boardview software I'm going to have to concur with the title.
"I'm curious if the microphone is working...? Hallo? Hall... Oh sheet!". 🤣
Relaxing and edifying. I hope Louis doesn't retire completely, but your take on the subject is also definitely nice.
I like how the channel has gone from a New York accent to a European accent. So easy on the ears.

The rice bit got me. I love your repair techs. Absolute geniuses.
An actual repair video 🤗 Good'ol times! Keep'em coming! 🤩
Louis' new look and accent are interesting. He seems a lot more relaxed too. Love the hat.

i quit at 3:37, leaking leaking, wearing gloves, thx awesome stuff !
When you bring in your laptop to get fixed and the tech tells you its got a leak...
You guys should start a new channel named The Real Genius Bar.
easy to watch this guy.......nice
Thanks for the video. We really need a DIY center in Los Angeles.
Your English is very good!
No Don’t Go Louis. They need you! WOW Texas really did change you.
Enjoyed watching you work, Chris. Looking forward to more videos from you.
At first I thought this was a parody, then as it went on I found it very useful.

Nevermind somewhere late in the video chris kinda confirms it :D

Welcome Chris, introduce yourself at the start of the video bro !
Dude, that is a pretty fine beard.
Props.
So add rice and run a benchmark. Got it. Any other tips? :)
The only other person I've seen to use blank NE caps. I haven't seen them on the us shop, but they sell them here in Australia.

Plenty of repairs take equipment worth more than what’s being repaired. Many don’t. Luck is involved.
Apple: What are you implying? Joke's on you we never attempted to repair.
I will miss Louis, sure. But i liked Chris👍👍👍
Young Northridge Fix. What year is it!!!
is this a board repair or a cooking lesson? I love rice dishes!
I was thinking maybe it was Johnson's baby oil it didn't look like water... I once fixed and cleaned a laptop full of spaghetti sauce lol
Didn't know macbooks existed in the 1990!
What did you double press on the backside of the Mac to turn it on, on DC supply??
You'd think by now, that engineering of such pricey electronics, they would have some type of non-conductive waterproof coating all over the boards.
Lol
The Mac is nervous about you turning it into a PC.
MUAHAHAHAAHAHAHA! :D
a mac is a pc?
@@Hacker1o1 I mean, a Mac can be a personal computer so yeah (:
For people who don't get this reference, it's an argument made by Apple-employed lobbyists against Right to Repair.
It’s lee-king 😂😂 I don’t see trouble with your English. Good job, made it look easy too.
Are you still making videos outside of board repair?
does he have his own channel?

The macbook was overclocked the user thought they could cook rice.

inject this directly into my veins (the genius not the liquid damage)
I love this. I want them to have you behind them with a whip, but I know that won't happen.
I thought this was Chris Ramsey 🤣
