I’m going back and looking at all of your videos and am enjoying getting back to gelli printing. I’m a quilter, weaver, textile collage artist and instructor, Zentangler, and watercolor hopeful. I have no problem with “play “ ….and had a great gel plate day recently with my 10 year old twin grandsons. As a multi media artist, I constantly have this pull between the “fun play me”and the practical pragmatist that says “yeah, but what are you going to “MAKE”. I have art quilts with no place to hang. Alcohol inks on yupo…. zentangles without homes and quilts without beds. I love it all. This gelli printing will definitely take me back to my art journal that I have not worked in for years. That is a happy place I will enjoy again. But with as much gelli paper as I am making, again my practical brain kicks back in and says, yeah but what are you going to do with all of this. You video on the three small kitchen canvas was inspiring. I can see now that I can take the collaging deeper with even more layers. This video on the process for beginning a large piece matches my process for textile arts. My hope is that you will show us more finished projects. Help us see the “WHERE” that we can go to. The underpainting with collage on top feels like the direction I will head as I do more representational than modern art. But you are helping me to spread my wings.
I love hearing all of this - especially that the twins spent time creating with you yesterday 😍 The question on what to do with all the paper comes up a lot. I've made a bunch of videos on how I use them - here's a link to a playlist with 15 videos on this very topic: What To Do With Your Painted Papers th-cam.com/play/PLgIXaAju7by0O_BipbCb-HO1rWrGQjWbs.html - and I've used them for grocery lists, note pads and have shredded them for shipping packages. 🥰
Thank you, Jackie, for helping creatives finding a way out of freeze mode and for encouraging them to always think big 🩷! So curious to find out what you will come up with the colour pallete that's on your wall. Pink and light blue are always challenging to me 😮. Aloha from Berlin ❤️🧡💛💚💜
This is the best advice I’ve heard for starting a collage painting. No fear of putting something in the “wrong” place while solidifying your vision for the final product-perfect!
Hi Jackie Very nice presentation. I haven’t been inclined to do any art for several months because many of my family situations are very difficult. But today as I watched you a little ray of sunshine emerged. With much prayer and encouragement from these videos, I hope to pick up my paint again and play. Thank you.
I hope you do, too, Lizzie. I always feel so much better during hard times if I create. Truthfully, I started intentionally painting papers for the first time during the hardest year of my life. I'm sending you much encouragement and support. Big hugs! 🥰
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this video and the inspiration ideas you shared!!!!! Incredible insight and tutorial. Thank you! This will help my journey and I appreciate it tremendously.
I literally started to well up because this video makes COMPLETE sense to my brain. 🥹 I have been stuck, for so long, with hundreds of beautiful papers, but unclear, unsure & unable to understand HOW to put any of them together. I know what I love when I see *others* put theirs together, but for some reason, when I try it, it looks like crazy-making & I have zero confidence. I know a lot of composition is gut feeling, but if you could do a video explaining why/how different patterns work together, I think that would be helpful to me & maybe others who are very literal thinkers. 🙏🏻☺️ Thank you for all you give, Jackie! 🩷
Gina, I'm so happy that you get it, too! I think if someone cracked open my head and looked inside, it would look a lot like this wall. 😂 Your idea for a video is a good one. Let me "noodle" it for a while. 🥰
What a fantastic technique when starting a new piece. I have not been game enough to start anything bigger than a 12 x 12 inch canvas. I have two larger canvases just sitting there waiting for me to "get on with it" - now I have the confidence to start Bigger. Thank you so much for sharing this direction. I found it so inspiring.
I love this wall! This is very inspiring! I have something similar, inspired by Seth Asper, but this version is even better!!!!! Very informative and inspiring video! Thank you for being you! 🙏🧡
Hi Jackie! Great incentive and suggestions for bigger works! I need to get to work and do more paper playing! Congrats on your creating a website. How exciting!
Hi Jackie. This was very informative, especially now that I have a multitude of painted papers which I love, but wondering what to do with. Can’t wait to see what you come up with in next video 😊
Oh how exciting! I don't work in oils and have so much respect for those who do. Let's turn your apprehension into curiosity as you develop you new methods - no one is going to judge you but you, and you've got too much creativity to let apprehension stop you. I can't wait to hear what you do with it - please be sure to come back and tell me! 🥰
Great question Margie! I use my art journals for most of my ideas, but when I work bigger, I need to feel the gravity of the whole thing. Having said that, I may work out the composition in a sketchbook before it start on the panels. 🥰

My vision board wall is my dining room table. Thank goodness I live alone. I find it helpful to cut blank borders off.

I feel apprehensive about my next one I’m starting because I’m working on developing new methods and ultimately topping it off with oils .

How do you/do you use your art journals for ideas?
Great question Margie! I use my art journals for most of my ideas, but when I work bigger, I need to feel the gravity of the whole thing. Having said that, I may work out the composition in a sketchbook before it start on the panels. 🥰
Time to change my quilt wall board to a paper wall board!😂
That's a genius idea, Joanna! 🥰
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🎨🇺🇸
