      Oh my goodness, Etta - some days in the studio could be an entire TV show of bloopers and mistakes. But the truth is, I learn so much more from my mistakes, and I enjoy sharing what I learn. 🥰

      Jemma, this is amazing! As I was working on this piece I was thinking how fun it might be to do a 'mosaic collage' with the painted papers. I've never worked with mosaic and truthfully don't know where to start, but I think I will try it (with paper) some time soon. I'd love any suggestions you might have. Also, I love that your inner child is getting more space 🥰

    Im a dancer. And sn artist. In dance one skill takes hours, muscle, intention, sometime years to accomplish.... you cant hang it on a wall. It has to flow into the final choreographed picture thst moves in time. Watching today was like watching a choreographer move her dancers to create the impact of the story.

    When you put the dark brown shadows under the edges of the shell, the contrast will pop the colors you have now. I like the addition of pumped up surprise colors. As long as the value us right, they work well.

    Thanks much for sharing this exciting project's process. It's spellbinding to watch this, Jackie. It's snowed here, and it's a gray silent day but for the taps and dribbling sounds of the melting ice. So, there's this perfect backdrop! ❄🌧I have experimented with collage, but never watched someone as they worked through it. You are such a great teacher and so generous to let us inside your own thoughts, it's awesome to be a witness to your work. One thought occurred to me as you were discussing depth and values, have you tried to do your first layer in grays, blacks, whites to build up from underneath the depth and shadows for the values especially? I've never even considered creating papers in gray tones for that purpose. 🙂

    This video in particular is such an inspiration and a phenmonal education! Thank you!
    I have 2 questions if you have time:
    (1) I was told early in my hobby collage adventure that using Matte medium in multiple layers (or coats) will make the colors of the collage dulled (because of what is added to the acrylic medium to make it matte). It was suggested to use Gloss medium when gluing all the pieces of collage and then add a final coat of Matte Medium for the overall matte look. Has this been your experience?
    (2) I LOVE tearing paper - so satisfying! I know that tearing the paper in a certain way can cause or not cause a white (paper core) edge. Do you concern yourself with that when painting with paper?
    Thank you again for this video (and all of your videos)! You are a great instructor and demonstrator with perfect camera angles. Watching your videos is such a joy!

    • @PaintedPaperStudio
      @PaintedPaperStudio  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi Robin, it's nice to see you again! A1: Yes, with enough layers of matte medium you could dull down the colors. Using gloss medium for everything except the top layer is always and option, but I'll tell you why I didn't use do that here. I didn't want to highlight the edges of some of the papers I used, and on the thicker pieces, gloss medium as the 'build up' medium would do that. Even with matte on top, the gloss below would show the edges. However, if I were using a lot of really large, dark pieces in the collage, I would probably use gloss. A2: Great question - I do concern myself with it. I always try to tear in a direction or way that reduces the white edge. It doesn't always happen, so I go back and try again, or pinch out the white. The pinching process is tedious for me, so I try to get a 'clean' tear the first time. 🥰

      For the curiosity and the challenge of working on something (somewhat) representational, that large. Prior to this TH-cam channel, most of the pieces I worked on were large - not 6', but large. Since my camera setup really only allows me to work on smaller pieces, I'm looking forward to having another project that forces me to think differently. 🥰

    • @PaintedPaperStudio
      @PaintedPaperStudio  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2
