- A faceoff erupted between TMC MP Derek O'Brien and Rail Minister Ashwini in Rajya Sabha today after the former branded bullet train project in India as a 'vanity project'. Ashwini Vaishnaw objected to the remarks made by the TMC MP, saying they are shameful and defended the bullet train project undertaken by Modi government. Last week, a similar faceoff erupted after TMC MP Nusrat Jahan had attacked Modi government over the bullet train project and said that the Indian soil was not perfect for the bullet trains. @@Tenzingkhirmey This is the need of the hour for India, projects like this (bullet train) is not about the end product alone but the absorption of technologies, these kind of projects help India nurture the needs of their engineers and keep them in touch with the latest tech, the new companies propped up due to this project will only benefit India in the long run, I agree that Frieght corridors are also important but big scale tech infusion projects have long term impact and fits well within the Make in India vision.
This project alone will setup an entire Industry of high tech rail startups that can then contribute to all other needs of rail even freight.

Please educate Derek on the progress made in Railways from 2014. Electrifications, doubling, station modernisation etc. Railways is one department which has made tremendous progress on many aspects, unfortunately because of few bottlenecks the results are not fully available to people. For example even though the doubling work and electrification between Mysore and Bangalore is done, the running time for most of the trains is still around 3hours for 150kms.
