Your son/daughter will be so lucky to be born into a great gardening family. I had a moment I will never forget this weekend. My wife, one year old son and I were eating raspberries off the cane and I looked over at them right when that beautiful golden hour sunlight hit them and realized how lucky I was. I look forward to many years of gardening with my son
ohhh the dog reminded me of my Sasha...she passed a couple of years back and i still miss her.. She was a border collie with the most beautiful blue eyes...
I don't know about you, but I love garlic stem finely minced, put on rice with some sesame oil and soy sauce - always a treat come harvest time. You can also make some nice oil infusions with small garlic bulbs as well!
Allium Leaf Miner is no joke. If you are seeing signs now it could be way worse next year. I would lose a lot of my crop every year for the past 3 years until I started using row covers early Feb through Late May. Maybe until mid June in your area. Always rotate too because the pupa are in the soil. Wish you the best. Losing an entire crop is very disheartening (happened to me last year) and I hope ALM doesn’t get that bad in your area, but row cover is cheap insurance. I also used beneficial nematodes this spring with row covers. I didn’t lose a single bulb this year :)
mine aren't quite ready to come out and I'm in zone 6a. I got mine from you and my crop this year is pretty large and I'm hoping my crop next year will be even larger. I have some perennial chives in there with them and planting rocket, kale and beets in there seems like a genius idea.
I hope that all will be sunshiny for the birth of your summer-baby! The pain will be forgotten after a few weeks, nontheless it is a hard challenge both mentally and physically. Having something to grab (a robe or blanket) with both hands helps a lot
Greetings from Hellas! With so much garlic i have to say you have to try making some tzatziki and skordalia! I am sure you will find the recepies online! Tzatziki for meat and skordalia for fried fish!!! The more garlic you add the better it gets!
I have Black Walnut trees with Wild Grape ( Vitus vinifera),Sassafras and Day lilies (hemerocallis fulva) Witch Hazel, Jewelweed as well as the plants you mentioned. Zone 6b St. Louis
Lovely looking garlic, I say lovely because I love garlick!!!!... lol lol I see 1 worker working bare foot, now that is the way to do it, the health benefits are enormous and it feels awesome to feel dirt going between the toes and around the feet. I feel kinda jealous!!!!!
Interested to know why you wouldn't want to leave the garlic out in the field? Just because New York summer rains or humidity? Here in the PNW my friend is doing 2-3 acres and his process is to pull the stock and bulb and leave it to dry for 2-10 days. Our summers are really dry humidity wise we don't have dew in the mornings this time of year. The garlic that gets dried out in the field is much superior to the stocks that we cut green and try to dry out the bulb. We will process it green and dry the bulbs in the sun for a day but that will be first-out sales because he likes to sell water weight but it also doesn't hold nearly as well. The garlic that gets left out in the field for longer and is fully dry is what gets held back for fall sales after the big dumps to stock all the grocers.
Good reminder that if I had asked the land owner if I could have pushed in a few 'sticks' of poplar around there back in 2020 when we started we'd have nice shade already! Trees always!
So glad to see you're not underwater! What will you do with ALL the gorgeous, huge garlic? Is it for sale, and I missed it? And a lot of basil and parsley, as well?
What a beautiful harvest! Love how you thoughtfully plan the next companions for the beds. Our garlic has been disappointing in the last two years, so I hope to purchase some of yours. Blessings…daisy
I love seeing and getting to "meet" the people you work the farm with. What do you refer to them as? I hear to refer to people by name, but how do you refer to the collective group of you? A crew, family, collective, team?
I tried some giant onion bulbs I picked up that I was selling, and when I had leftover, I used around one of my beds to keep the rabbits out . I don’t think it worked because I could see the presence of one that have had been there.
I grew two rows of strawberries with garlic running down the center this year. The strawberry leaves were annihilated by the rabbits this morning until I made a fence out of chicken wire. Can confirm rabbits are not afraid to eat near garlic.
Ok, I know that is a GREAT deal of them, more than even the people present in this video could eat, but do you not eat any of the scapes? Or pickle/preserve them for winter consumption? Seems such a shame to compost all of them, they made my mouth water just eyeballing them!😆 Such a lovely harvest, good season for garlic!!
@@ulla.umlaut I was raised being taught that the entire green top of garlic were called scapes. Being different maturities; young & tender which most are familiar with and then the firmer mature, what we see piled up here after cutting them from the bulbs. I was taught the flower part of the scapes is mostly an identifier for harvesting young ones but the entire green part is edible. Which is what I grew up calling scapes. Potentially I wasn't taught the nuances possibly associated, I come from simple country folk.🤷
What an amazing garlic patch. What did you do with all your garlic scapes? I had so many this year I was starting to panic. I usually cut them up and put them in the freezer but this year I had way too many. So this is what I did with them. Worked out fabulous this will be the way I will process them every year other than eating them fresh.😁 th-cam.com/video/FeXCmdEfn-Q/w-d-xo.html

Love it! My 3 year old and I sowed our pumpkin patch this evening.
Oh Sasha! You look so radiant! Good job, mama!💖
Mud pies!!! (Cakes, cupcakes, etc) Great childhood memories!
Man that video was so wholesome!
Awesome to people enjoying life and helping each other ☀️☀️
Thanks!
Sweet Basil makes a satisfying cold-brewed tea, doesn't even need any sugar or anything else added to it
The little wave at the end😂 💕

I was worried about you, I heard there was flooding and now a big heat dome in your area?
I don't know about you, but I love garlic stem finely minced, put on rice with some sesame oil and soy sauce - always a treat come harvest time. You can also make some nice oil infusions with small garlic bulbs as well!
Fun additional ideas here, thank you! Sasha cooked some of the Elephant garlic stems as a treat yesterday
sounds delicious!!
Stay cool Sasha!💕

Beautiful! All of it, on so many levels.
Garlic envy! What a bumper crop of massive garlics!
Lovely video mate. Great to see the crew looking good!

I realize now...seed garlic can be topped since we're not interested in flavor, whereas food garlic should be dried with the stalk...
Would love to see your elephant garlic! I just starting growing it 2 years ago and the taste is knock-your-socks-off 😂
That was an amazing harvest!
Ended up being somewhere around 1000 pounds I believe

We've had massive rains recently, and (at least in the Hudson Valley) more is expected.
That shot at the end, hiding out of the sun, was hilarious. That's a lot of garlic.

So few weeds, considering it was pasture, right ? Thanks for the succession planting ideas
Loved this one!

We sell seed garlic through our website and probably about 60% of this crop will be going towards that. We'll share notes as we get closer!

Hard to know how we could call ourselves. I kind of feel like all those options fit at various times :)
This is the biggest and most beautiful garlic I‘ve ever seen! ❤ Garlic bliss! 😂🙏🏻
So glad ya like it!
Well done. Thanks
Ian looks cool as hell
He is cool as hell!
Doing it to keep them out of the sorghum patch I got planted..
When we can grow garlic in Abbotsford BC
Beautiful
Fantastic
Love Garlic 😊
Hi Sean, I am really wanting to buy your garlic. I am in zone 7/8 high desert. when will it be available? what type should I grow?
We will probably be offering our seed garlic on August 1st would be my guess. We'll give an update!

I plant beans or peas in the space after harvesting garlic to replenish nitrogen
Seems like a great follow up. We have some bush beans in a few of the beds
Lovely!🤗💛🤗
Good 👍
Will you be selling the garlic for others to purchase for seed? If so where can I order some hardneck and soft neck
I'm pretty sure he does. Check description for link to his site
@@sangha1486 I am going to have to wait for them to cure before he has them for sell
We will be selling seed. We'll offer it up August 1st and will let folks know!

I didn't notice any scapes. I think they'd have turned to flowers over a month ago?
