The Gamer playing is INCREDIBLE! He/she plays the game beautifully AND he/she shows you: -all the different ways of dodging enemies and their attacks. -different ways of attacking enemies. -shows all weapons and sub-weapons through actual use and strategy. -safe spots in the game (places where enemies can't hurt you). -how to troll the bosses (watch how he/she toys with them as well as the normal enemies.) And he/she did ALL of that without saying a single word. This game-play was perfect
"Congratulations on beating one of the most unnecessarily difficult games ever made! Now here's a crappy, 8-second ending cutscene that is barely animated! HURRAY!"
Here's the deal: Castlevania was released for the Famicom in 1986 and the NES (in the USA) one year later. Vampire Killer, for the home computer was released a month later. Castlevania 2:Simons Ques, was released in late '87 and Haunted Castle was released by the same company, Konami, in early 1988. Super Castlevania 4 would not be released until 1991, and it reused some of the Haunted Castle designs. Even if they're not named so they are all considered Castlevania series games.
not to mention that a continue represents a life, and if you try to enlarge your energy meter, it reduces your chances since it takes away from your "lives".
@NWNisFUN It came out a bit later--around the time of Simon's Quest in 1988. Still an early incarnation, though, and meant to be another take on Simon's first encounter with Dracula.
this is a totally new castlevania I have never seen before. For 1988 it's really good. I don't like the way he looks when he walks ,but the monsters and level design is really good.
Awesome you rule- he didn't even get hit one time and only used the subweapon when he absolutely had to! I'm playing it right now and it's kicking my #$% ツ
Nice playing too man! I don't remember you taking even 1 hit! that's impressive! Although this looks like one of the easiest castlevania games ,but you still did really good!
I don't see why everyone hates this game. It doesn't quite measure up to every other Castlevania game, but the music in this game is still awesome. The first stage, Bloody tears, and the music of stage 6 was awesome. But yes, the choice of items and weapons is quite weird actually. I mean, a flaming torch instead of holy water? lol
oh my, this game hasn't aged well - the graphics are the only thing that I'm willing to forgive, but I guess it's the famous weird first installiment syndrome that most games have, like the original Megaman, Pokemon Red or Guitar Hero (not saying that these games are bad, just that in most cases the age wasn't exactly kind to them and that the concepts in them were lacking direction or were underdeveloped)
3K?.................. 3000? Well i imagine it could handle this game, im not sure that CFW psps use the same software as GP2xs, but they do have tons of emulators for them and MAME emulators are avaliable for it.
Well that game certainly looked...something. That falling bridge segment at the end would have had me ripping my hair out. And what was the deal with the random harpy in Dracula's room? It seemed...out of place.
I tip my hat to you whoever is playiing this, Stage 3 boss is dumb as hell with the fleamen constantly entering the boss fight with the stain glass knight.
i got really into this game back in the day ,spent 6 hours + on one 10 pence ,then they had to close the shop and turn it off ,when returning the next day the game had been changed to pac man or something.....perhaps there is a way to get it on my mac through an emulator....?.....anyone know...?
Well, I hate to use the term rip off, but I've always thought Castlevania was an amalgam of two arcade classics - Ghosts'n'Goblins and Black Tiger. But I do think Capcom got a little lazy with this game and the NES title - its not clear which cames first, but man did they re-use a lot of music, sound and game layout. =P
looks... well, hard to judge by looks alone, but, are the sound effects washed out by the soundtrack? I think I hear the monsters scream when they die, but that's it.
That kind of stinks. I would hate to have to beat the game in one day. Like Fester's Quest on Nintendo. Passwords are cool especially for long game sessions.
Haunted Castle: The epic tale of Simon Belmont as he desperately searches for the nearest bathroom.
😂😂😂😂
You know, if it wasn't for the extreme difficulty and lack of unlimited continues and checkpoints, this arcade game would be a classic.
Dang hearing "Bloody Tears" at the sight of actual bloody tears at 9:02 ... wow man
Dracula dies in such a mediocre way in this game. His face just sinks into the ground and that's it.
I found this game to be unforgivably difficult, but I am really glad to see some of the enemies like the stained glass golem date back to the OG.
I don't think that haunted glass was of a golem, it was more likely a living stained glass knight...🤔🤔
This game has a really good OST for a game from '88.
Favorite tracks:
1:30
7:47
15:28
18:02
19:56 Does anyone else other than me find Dracula melting quite disturbing?
I walk like that after a night of binge drinking and Taco Bell
Bloody Tears and Julius theme! o.o
And another from Dawn of Sorrow for Stage 5.

Wow, they ripped that stained glass window night straight off of "Young Sherlock Holmes".
You have to admit, Simon looks like the definition of a Medieval Belmont :)
This arcade version of the game is hard and I remember wasting $30 on it to finish it.
Good times...
man that skeletons "cool walk" is priceless lol
That has got to be the derpiest walk animation I have ever seen. Kudos to the player though, made this hard ass game look easy.
9:03 that eye blood is such a cool little detail

and not a single bar of damage from an enemy. Damn!
+Justin LaBoy
my god!! makes this game look easy... this game is nearly impossible
+djugel if your using emulator then no save states!!!!!
13:36 that's a huge arse rock golem there; I'll bet the Belmonts faced them along with their muddy cousins (regular golem/mud man)
The boss battles are too short, but this is a nice arcade version of Castlevania.
A vampire hunter cannot wield a sword. In Haunted Castle Revisited (as part of Castlevania Dominus Collection) the issue is resolved.
not to mention that a continue represents a life, and if you try to enlarge your energy meter, it reduces your chances since it takes away from your "lives".
OST is very good for the time.
9:05 bloody tears with bloody tears.
this castlevania game reminds me of SOTB 2, except for the music ;)
18:02 Julius' Theme?!
Josue Cruz Julius theme is a remix of this theme.....
I remember this song being on JonTron...
The part with blocks flying at you reminds me of Yellow Devil from Mega Man.
The castlevania game series was based on this game. It basically follows the story of the Belmont clan trying to end Dracula's evil reign of terror.
This game came after castlevania 1...
And after Simon's Quest. Huanted Castle is the third game in the franchise(or fourth if you consider MSX Vampire Killer a separate game)
I played this on Konami's arcade collection on the Switch, never beat the first level.
@NWNisFUN It came out a bit later--around the time of Simon's Quest in 1988. Still an early incarnation, though, and meant to be another take on Simon's first encounter with Dracula.

13:26 another hidden attack
This game is so bullshit hard, it's hilarious that you can apparently kill Dracula in like five seconds if you can manage to reach him.
...I hear Julius' theme~
STAGE 01 Music - The only redeeming thing about the sound when it comes to originallity, so far. CRUCIFIX HELD CLOSE for the WIN!
Awesome you rule- he didn't even get hit one time and only used the subweapon when he absolutely had to! I'm playing it right now and it's kicking my #$%

HAUNTED CASTLE
@cubex55 wtf is this castlevania for the arcade never seen this one
Wow, it even has the same music in some stages! But it's weird to see Simon Belmont use a sword...
the drip of blood can hurt you.
I don't see why everyone hates this game.
It doesn't quite measure up to every other Castlevania game, but the music in this game is still awesome. The first stage, Bloody tears, and the music of stage 6 was awesome.

GP2x Caanoo, a handheld that emulates a bunch of consoles
oh my, this game hasn't aged well - the graphics are the only thing that I'm willing to forgive, but I guess it's the famous weird first installiment syndrome that most games have, like the original Megaman, Pokemon Red or Guitar Hero (not saying that these games are bad, just that in most cases the age wasn't exactly kind to them and that the concepts in them were lacking direction or were underdeveloped)
thing is that it adds more hit points (up to 64 HP) for the player.
(Esse comentário é pra quem viu o vídeo do Baú Old Gamer)
Congratulations! To finish this game has to be a great player!
I heard that Castlevania music and had to sit up
the way dracula's head just deflates like that when he dies is FUCKIN CREEPY!!! lol
Managed to beat this game finally. Not really that tough once you know where everything is.
3K?.................. 3000? Well i imagine it could handle this game, im not sure that CFW psps use the same software as GP2xs, but they do have tons of emulators for them and MAME emulators are avaliable for it.
This was pretty awesome! :-D All that ear-torture and suddenly "Bloody Tears"! Awesome. So this is what later became Castlevania?
Do you mean that later this became considered a castlevania game ? Castlevania was already out a year before this was released.
thats not bloody tears
th-cam.com/video/WSLRJP2iXGk/w-d-xo.html bloody tears...
9:05 BLOODY TEARS.
AWW YEAH.
I put this on my handheld and I've been trying to play this better, i dont think I can ever match this lol.
The sounds a little off :/
There's no sampled sound :(
Great game
simplemente PERFECTO.!!!!
Guess those crosses are rather powerful.
@GRANDOVERLORD77 cubex is right because castekvania is by Konami
Well that game certainly looked...something. That falling bridge segment at the end would have had me ripping my hair out. And what was the deal with the random harpy in Dracula's room? It seemed...out of place.
ArkThePieKing She didn't get the memo. Please understand, Sally is new he--oh, she's dead already.
jigglypuffgirl2008/ where and how did you play ,i want to relive my childhood?
A mexican castlevania, just look at the character..And this also lokks and sounds like a Genesis game.
8:30 - 8:45 is one of the biggest WTF moments in video games.
Welcome to Harpy zone!
Can someone give this guy 1,000,000,000 $ he managed to complete trash castel without taking damage or dying
awesome, the first boss is medusa
I tip my hat to you whoever is playiing this, Stage 3 boss is dumb as hell with the fleamen constantly entering the boss fight with the stain glass knight.
What happened to the sound?
The great percussions are missing, and FX are nearly mute. Many screams are completely missing.
7:46 OMF vampire slayer from Castlevania OMF!!!!!
17:50 OMFG Heart of Fire wait what need to do this game with Castlevania? OMFG
*****
You're right, actually it's Bloody Tears, lol xP
you not notice her standing behind his giant flabby old arm?
I still hear it, too. ;_;
no the first was released for nes in 1987
9:10 NOW I know why the song's called Bloody Tears
I still hear Bloody Tears :D
i got really into this game back in the day ,spent 6 hours + on one 10 pence ,then they had to close the shop and turn it off ,when returning the next day the game had been changed to pac man or something.....perhaps there is a way to get it on my mac through an emulator....?.....anyone know...?
where's all sound effects? music sounds silly without beat
and I thought I had seen every version of CV there was sigh.....
somebody knows why they do not called castlevania
why only haunted castle?
no it isnt this came out a year after castlevania 2 simons quest
At least the soundtrack is still awesome!
Why does this have no sound effects or drums?
Great gameplay nontheless.
That Dracula looked easy as shit.
...I hear Bloody Tears~
I'm using a PSP 3K, is it possible I could use this same soft? Thanks for your reply
And I finally got past the first boss, after a year of on and off playing. Seriously hate this game.
looks... well, hard to judge by looks alone, but, are the sound effects washed out by the soundtrack? I think I hear the monsters scream when they die, but that's it.
13:22 from where that attack comes
Was this recorded with what?? sound is messed up!
@mspeter97 Yeh I know, I was only kidding.
Music has missing instruments :(
@cubex55 LOL! I was just about that say that.
So uh, did he save the girl?
What do you mean by enlarging your energy meter? I've always seen a standard life bar :O
Too bad this was recorded with faulty sound emulation..
11:17 that vampire why not moving
That kind of stinks. I would hate to have to beat the game in one day. Like Fester's Quest on Nintendo. Passwords are cool especially for long game sessions.
epic music/bridge
wtf with the final boss i mean dracula. ???
a freaking bat had more chances to kill simon than dracu-dude :/
11:21 thats vampire or something thats not moving
2000s kids in the comments make me physically ill..
