      @@esweet100 yes, but with chinese culture, one is considered to lose face if they publicly speak out against an individual or group of higher economic or societal standing (because they're clearly doing better than you, so you can assume they've got the right idea, not you.), and that group will lose face by being insulted. We shouldn't be surprised if they would prefer Angus did the more (at least in china) socially advantageous thing for both of them, and talked to one of them face to face, or just let it go, but Angus had the clear advantage, because he lived in a place where speaking out against a more successful, group is generally applauded and considered brave, instead of foolish.
      Now, I personally think it's really trashy to try pressuring someone to let something like this go, and though it could have been an oversight, they handled it poorly, but that sales rep probably was just doing what they were told to do, and there would probably be pretty harsh consequences if they did not. Like I said earlier though, not surprised about any of this.

    First of all Thank You for your Honest Review! Many times my friends and myself question all these reviews online when a printer is given freely for review. We see a printer basically easy to assemble and printing with little or no issues, and once we decide to get one and receive it, it seems that this came from a totally different production line where all rejected parts were thrown into a bin for newbies to assemble and learn. So when we see a review like this we learn more and trust the review.
    Now I would like to mention that I look at reviewed not just to consider buying a printer but also to learn what to look into when modding or making one. I have not yet finished one but it is a work in progress. I do not know if you have issued any videos on TRP and Min Temp testing but I think it is a good thing to have for the 3D printing community. Again if it is out there, I have failed in my search :)
    It does not surprise me that some might think your first video was over reacting, but honestly I prefer to error on the conservative side. My family lives in the house where I place my printers and my hobby should NEVER place them at risk. Be it possible fire, or fumes... safety is important. Tronxy was smart in listening to you... but not too much when it had to be escalated higher up. Why did this happen? Honestly as long it is found like you indicated, and corrected... the important thing is to make sure this is tested moving forward and that it does not occur again.
    This might be my first time writing so much... and might be the last :) But I had to chime in because safety HAS TO BE part of the design specification of any printer. Thanks again !!!!

You could have easily just left the original video and moved on to something else. I've had first hand experience with a cheap Chinese machine catch fire a few years ago due to a snapped thermistor wire which would have been fine if thermal runaway was enabled in the firmware. Luckily I was in the room at the time and prevented any real damage from occurring. Hopefully you don't have to do too many more videos like this because most of us would much rather see positive videos about new machines your testing and creative projects you are working on.

    Assembled mine last night and got the update. Bought it a few weeks ago based on the specs , which are really quite good at this price point. It should be easy to put a larger blower on the hot end. One problem was the heads of the screws that attached the bearings to the build plate were too big to fit into the countersunk screw holes on the bearings. I had to file the heads down a bit around the edge with a file on my drill press. Otherwise, assembly was quick and easy. They need to replace the 8 M4x8 pan head screws with M4x8 socket cap machine screws to attach the bearings to the build plate. When I saw your initial review, I wrote to TronXY on every email I could find on Aliexpress and their website demanding an update. Thanks for pointing this out! It could have been a real disaster.

I probably won't buy one of their bots after that, but I know plenty of others will. You've potentially saved an unknowable amount of homes from getting A8'd to the ground. That frame looks like it's got so much potential with the guide rails and overall design, shame about the shockingly primitive endstops (surely optical endstops wouldn't add that much to production!?) and print head quality, both of which would be easy and possibly even fun to upgrade if only it ran on Marlin firmware. Have you tested to see how the Chitu / Tronxy board reacts when a thermal runaway condition is enabled? Does the printer actually halt, or is there only a warning? I fed the latest X5SA configuration gcode into Google translate, and it looks like there may only be an on-screen warning. I recently bought an X5SA Pro, but I'm in the process of replacing the stock controller with an MKS 1.3 running Marlin so I can't test the behavior myself.
    As a side note, this same "strongly recommended not to disable this function" message is present in older firmware revisions I have downloaded for the X5A. Too bad nobody was paying attention...
    ; temperature error detection is prohibited. It is strongly recommended not to disable this function. The default temperature error detection will not be inserted in the temperature sensor or
    ; When the heating power is too small, a warning will pop up. 0: Enable temperature detection.

    When it homes why does it move X, then Y? Why doesn't it pythagorise and use the hypotenuse? These are the neat things about corexy. How would you fit a hermes and get it to work with the tronxy d01 firmware? Care to have a go? Would it need Marlin2 to do so -- but can you use Marlin2 with it? so many questions, sorry.

    That the switches beep when you bump the 3D printer should mean they are very precise. If the deformation from bumping it is enough to trigger the switch it's really at it's precise limit.
    PS: My guess is the enclosure also adds stability to it.

    My Prusa i3 Mk3 has had mintemp errors recently, I think it's because it's in a cold room and seems to only display after a print and it's cooled right down to room temperature because I didn't attend to it for a while.
    Should I build an enclosure for the Mk3 if it's to be printing in a cold environment over the winter months?

    • @Dinimizer
      @Dinimizer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      what i use to do is lower the fan speed to 30% or so, if there is cold outside you will still cool the print well without triggering thermal runaway

    • @PaperHunter

      An enclosure won't help as much as simply heating the room.

    • @licensetodrive9930
      @licensetodrive9930 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the replies, I was also wondering how very cold temperatures would affect printing as it's in a spare room where I don't turn the heating on in winter because I'm never in there long enough to warrant it.

    Tronxy haven't provided updated firmware for all their machines still on the market. I bought a Tronxy branded P802D/X6D kit on eBay a few months ago and it's not even listed on their website. Granted it's an older model and may have been in a warehouse a while, but it's almost as if Tronxy want to pretend they never made that model?
    I found out that thermal runaway was not enabled in the factory firmware after the heater cartridge fell out during a long print. Fortunately I found it before it got too hot, although it did wreck the magnetic print mat I'd fitted.
    To their credit, I was provided with a download link to source code for the Repetier-firmware version it shipped with on request.

    FWIW, OctoPrint always warns me that my Tronxy X1 has TRP disabled, but Tronxy doesn't have any firmware available on their site for it still. Maybe they figure it can't get hot enough to cause a problem since it runs off that small laptop power brick?

    I can tell you one reason for disabling thermal runaway. I had issues with it enabled when I had the part cooling fan switch on at too low a level (too low being the Z height), the air would bounce off the bed and on to the head, cooling the head down and triggering a failed print with thermal runaway error. So may be that's why historically they didn't use it? Anyway, I have thermal runaway enabled and NOW I don't have the fan enable until it reaches a higher height. - So just a thought.

    A firmware update is much safer than simply updating the NVRAM settings via gcode. If you only update the NVRAM via gcode, the printer would only be one factory reset (or M502) away from reverting to firmware defaults and becoming unsafe once again.

      @Don Gray none insult taken. I appreciate your response. I know that there are a lot of different versions out there, now I know that even the retailers may not know what version they sell.
      I am thinking of getting one from Aliexpress, they claim it is the 2019 version, and also have a list with upgrades, also it is 24V with the psu laid down and the lcd bent inside the frame.
      I think I'll give it a try.
      Thanks again.

    The question remains how many end users of this machine do not watch your channel, i suspect hundreds if not more. Tronxy should contact all thier buyers and at least tell them about the necessity to update the firmware immediately for thier own protection.

    I had the thermistor rip off my heat bed during the night of a long print. Luckily Prusa takes safety more serious so the printer shut off and nothing terrible happened.

      Some printers with really long bowden tubes need upwards of like 10mm depending on the hot end, but 14 is insane. Imagine the K value you'd need for linear advance for this machine if it requires 14mm retractions. You'd probably turn the extruder into a damned machine gun. "TAK TAK TAK TAK"
      I'm not sure why it needs so much though. It looks like it's using the same mk8 style hot-end the ender 3 uses and that hot end is fine as long as you have a good tube and coupler. I was able to get away with like 4mm retractions on my e3 before I switched to an all metal hot end and enabled linear advance. Now I use 1mm retractions with a bowden system. It's nice.

    I loved this printer when I first got it. The frame is solid and the enclosure makes it feel pro. The stringing is terrible and makes it very difficult to print PETG. I solved that with a 3d printed direct drive conversion (calibrating the steps took some research). My other complaint is much harder to solve. The build plate support is too thin. It flexes, is difficult to level, and shakes with any vibrations around, like someone walking. That's what caused poor quality of my prints. I replaced the sloppy Z leadscrew nut for a delrin and going to make a custom plate from aluminum.
