Oh man.... I've always been spouting off how the Dualshock 3 was the best and most perfect controller ever, and then I got a PS4. Holy cow, this thing blows the DS3 out of the water, and I didn't even think that was possible. Is it possible to be physically attracted to a video game controller?
I've always hated the DS's sloppy loose analog sticks. It's a great controller for fighters, but for anything analog based related it's always been a massive step back compared to Nintendo's offerings, like the Gamecube controller for ex.
@@jlascala03 there is nothing better about the ps4 controller other than the built in battery when compared to the xbox. The buttons are more mushy, they get uncomfortable and sweaty quicker. It's a decent controller but not as nice as the xbox controller.
I used the select button. Especially in shooters where most of them use it to bring up the Map, that was my navigation button for most of the shooter games i played. I am actually going to miss that Button on the ps4 controller ;(
I've noticed that clicking on the touchpad usually takes the place of the select button on this controller, so don't worry. It's actually pretty nice because it's so big that you can hit it with either thumb.
If thats the case then i will be happy. I am just used to the original design since soo long. a decade of my game life on playstation, going to be a new experience for once. :)
I wonder who came up with the stupid idea to bend the triggers outward on the Dualshock 3 anyway. They're called triggers, just make them look like triggers. It'll feel better, put you in the game more and be easier to use. At least they fixed it now, that's good.
Those ports are for the headset. You can use any 3.5 MM headset with it, that's the normal headphone looking port. The port to the side will be proprietary to specific PS4 headset to adjust volume and mute for the headset.

the stick moves. when you move it to the end of the circle it touches the plastic that stops it. when you do that for a long time it rubs and cuts the stick over time. The sticks i'm referring to are the sticks on the controller that make your player move...
I honestly don't get fanboys, seriously like what you like and let other people like what they like. If someone likes something different to you there is no reason to hate on that person. For example you might like mustard and I might like Ketchup, doesn't make either one of us a bad person it just means we have different likings and tastes. Sony should make that xbox style controller. Id pay $100 for it. The analog stick placement is really horrible for shooters. Hopefully a 3rd party at least release an adapter to use my xbox controller.

They increased the size of the controller and put actual trigger on it this time for shooters. I don't know how much bigger it is now personally but I heard it's more comfortable.
Choices? We're console gamers, developers couldn't care less what we think, and their attitude is that we'll stick with whatever they give us because we have no other choice and no way to get around it. Most first person shooters don't even give you the choice to turn off aim assist now. And look at Battlefield 4, they completely changed the controls and didn't give the option to put them back to normal.
I love the Dualshock 3. I've been using a Dualshock 4 for only about two hours now (playing Infamous: Second Son) and I have to say... The fuck?! 1) The sticks are too far apart and their grippy new shape actually makes my thumb slide *more*. 2) The touchpad is too small to work well as a touchpad and otherwise it's just a giant flat, awkward rectangular button. 3) The Share button. Is dumb. And takes up space where something useful could have gone. 4) Both the Share and Options buttons have very little feel to them, which makes them difficult to locate sight unseen. 5) The PS button is slightly too small. 6) The grips are too fat and widely placed. They affect the angle of my fingers on the L and R buttons. I realize that a year from now I could end up saying this is the greatest controller ever created. Once I've adjusted to it. But for now I don't like it. Nope.

Dakota Williams It actually has a pretty decent resolution, meaning that you could have thousands of inputs but they'd be impossible to trigger individually. That's why I said 4, because 4 is still easy for your thumb to differentiate between. There is only one button, but what that button does can (and does) change depending one where you're touching on the touchpad. If you're going to debate something, know what you're talking about.

It's more a visual guidance and something extra for someone who likes something extra, and the controller was built by many devs involvement, Bungie apparently had a lot of say, so obviously someone approved of it, but I also think its more of a design to give it more of a feature, and it interacts with playstation eye.
There are too many Dualshock 3 complainers, but one thing that the Dualshock 4 is bit for adults or teens. Why? Because the handle, analog sticks, are too longer. Also, the buttons are bit far, the triggers are good and doesn't fast forward the movie when sitting on your lap. The one thing on Dualshock 4 is sometimes the analog sticks rubber are peel off a bit. How to fix this issues? Make sure your nail finger does not sharp. And well use the thumb, not nail finger. Someone still prefer the convex analog sticks. I just held the Dualshock 3 and playing GTA, i don't feel any slippage from the triggers when i play a half hour. I just feel the swedy only on the handles.

I love the entire controller but I don't know if I will like the more concave feel they have going on. But I'm so happy they kept them horizontal from each other.
I like how the Xbox players are saying that they are mature and that's why ps4 videos have way less dislikes than Xbox 1 videos when in reality the reason why Xbox gets more dislikes is because their are more people moving to ps4.
the stick itself. not the pads where your thumbs are placed. the left stick especially since it is most used to move rather than aim. after long use in First person shooters or fast paced games it starts to trim down from rubbing against the circle of plastic around it.
Not really,people who played first on Xbox or who bought an original Xbox will almost always say the Xbox controller is better. But if someone has never played either they will usually pick the PS Dualshock. Xbox players will never say anything bad about the controller and neither will PS players but the ps controller is symmetrical,comfortable and it really is better.

I've held this during the events from E3 and Gamecom and I must say, DualShock 4 is a massive improvement over the DualShock 3, it even fills a whole lot better than the both the X1 and 360 pad (no fanboy) due to the sweat being emerged on to the back of the DS4, the material from behind the Controller is so smooth too.
The recent hate is because they're falsely advertising their UI. If you want to actually show what it can do then do a live demonstration and stop thinking your consumers are so gullible. Besides I guarantee it doesn't run that smoothly.
I'd like to add as well, that I bought my PS3 when COD4 was a thing and my remote has been a champion throughout the years. Had it for about 5-6 years, and didn't have a problem with it, so I don't think, or rather, in this generation, battery life shouldn't even be an issue.
Who ever had issues with the design of the Dualshock 3? The triggers were great and I play quite a few FPS games. I am curious about the button mapping for games like planetside 2 but other than that I'm only disappointed that a USB cable is not included I have an extra one that came with a headset. The controller is 60 bucks just put a cable in the damn box,I think they will begin including cables after enough complaints. I could just get a charging dock but I don't wanna have to.
The LED light symbolises which player you are e.g Blue(Player 1) also its a light move sensor which can be used with the PS Camera,it can also interact with the game meaning when health is low the light goes red etc. Its very innovative, considering the tech put into the controller the price is a great bargain.
I prefer the playstation controller layout, but I don't care if someone says they like the Xbox controller better. I DO care when someone says "Everybody knows the Xbox controller is better" or "Everybody knows the layout is more comfortable". Man have you felt both controllers?! The PS4 controller is insane... and this comes from a guy who played 360 for the whole console life, so my muscle memory is adjusted to the xbox controller. The PS4 one felt so natural and comfortable, perfect amount of weight, perfect shapes and curves, perfect chunkiness haha I love it personally
Have you felt the PS4 controller? I have one already, the triggers I can assure you are not cheap, nothing on this controller is cheap, its an extremely sturdy, well built controller. I loved the 360 controller, but this blows it away man honestly.
I plugged it into my PS3 and I played NHL 14 and Cod Black Ops 2 with it haha was too sick! I don't have any PC games, but when I plugged it into my PC, it installed the driver for it and seen it as a wireless controller right away no problem! :D
IMO the face buttons X,O etc should've been placed a bit more far away from each other, When i got my hands on it, it felt a little too close to each other but maybe its something we'll just have to get used to

There is a difference between gimmicks and improvements. For example: Wii remote was really cool in 2006, but when was the last time you played a 3rd party game that completely utilized it? Most games/all of the games use the nun chuck, and many people prefer the 10 year old GameCube controller over the wii remote. On the PS4 controller, Sony made improvements that may not change the way people play games like Nintendo is trying to do, but i'm pretty sure that's what they where aiming for.
I thought the dualshock 3 controller wasn't that comfortable to me because I was more used to the Xbox controller. Just by looking at it, it seems to be improved. It's somewhat like the Xbox controller now. The only difference is the analog placements.

Dude trust me, it's better. I was a huge 360 fan, I hated the ps3, hated the ps3 controller. I was a 360 fanboy lmfao I wasn't even going to get a ps4 til I seen it. But im telling you man, when I felt the PS4 controller, I was blown away. I was NOT expecting it to be better than Xbox's. The Xbox controller was always so perfect to me. I've always liked the d-pad on the dualshock controller better. I like that it's 4 individual buttons, and that they aren't connected to each other. With the 360 controller, I always find myself pressing two buttons on the d-pad, when I actually just want to press one. Unfortunately, I think the xbox one controller will have the same problem, seeing that the d-pad looks very similar to the 360 controller. It's annoying as hell when trying to enter cheats for GTA V.
@DaveGX(On mobile no reply button) DICE put a Veteran control layout for people who want the controls to be more like BF3, and there are tons of on/off options.
And thats exactly why they changed them! I personally dont mind them, I actually like em way more than I did Xbox controllers (But then again, I have small hands). I hope the D4 is far enough from D3 to please the people that didnt like them but are still close enough to home to not feel completely different for people that did enjoy the D2 & 3.

The Dualshock was in desperate need of innovating. The original Dualshock was small and the shoulder buttons weren't good at all. I am so glad that they were able to make a controller that was improved in every way possible.
I have smallish hands anyway so i'm looking forward to returning back to PlayStation this generation. It looks good and i cant wait to get my hands on it :)
The dual shock will never be as good as the Xbox controllers. All reviewers have stated that the Xbox One controller is the most perfect controller for playing games.
shooting games are the only types of games that utilize the whole controller all the time in a fast paced environment. if you design a controller that works great for shooters, it will work great for everything else.
i love the dualshock 4. it's awesome. i especially like the new triggers, they're a huge improvement. the one thing i don't like, is that the sticks don't have quite as much room to move around as the DS3. not a big deal once you get used to it though.
The 360 controller while very good wasn't perfect, your middle fingers feel kinda numbed out after being stuck in between the battery compartment for a long time and the bumper buttons are way to sensitive sometimes I'm not even sure I clicked on it on or not. And personally the dots on the analog sticks are irritating to my thumbs.
Why should they drastically change the Xbox controller? Don't fix what doesn't need fixing. The 360 controller is amazing, and they fixed the biggest fault in it, the d-pad. And added some cool new features too.
Controller is a preference. You can't say one is better than the other it's what you prefer and is more comfy with. I have been more comfy with dual shock. Loving the new controller!
You forgot to mention how the [_] and O buttons were more separated (accidentally) compared to X and /\ . You pointed it out in a video when Sony said this. Something no one really found out with the years. Honestly I do think it makes a difference when playing. Having them not to far apart makes it easier even if it's unconsciously.
I grow up with PlayStation controllers.....I prefer the sticks layout more than Xbox's, but that's because I'm used to that, doesn't mean everyone else is the same same as you, your opinion isn't a standard for anyone else...

You forgot to mention that the Speaker mic can also be used as voice recognition for the PS4.
In Assassins Creed Black Flag, pressing the touch pad brings the map up and then you use it like any map on a smart phone.

Not really,people who played first on Xbox or who bought an original Xbox will almost always say the Xbox controller is better. But if someone has never played either they will usually pick the PS Dualshock. Xbox players will never say anything bad about the controller and neither will PS players but the ps controller is symmetrical,comfortable and it really is better.
I've held this during the events from E3 and Gamecom and I must say, DualShock 4 is a massive improvement over the DualShock 3, it even fills a whole lot better than the both the X1 and 360 pad (no fanboy) due to the sweat being emerged on to the back of the DS4, the material from behind the Controller is so smooth too.
The recent hate is because they're falsely advertising their UI. If you want to actually show what it can do then do a live demonstration and stop thinking your consumers are so gullible. Besides I guarantee it doesn't run that smoothly.
I'd like to add as well, that I bought my PS3 when COD4 was a thing and my remote has been a champion throughout the years. Had it for about 5-6 years, and didn't have a problem with it, so I don't think, or rather, in this generation, battery life shouldn't even be an issue.
To my knowledge one is for a head set and the wide one is for the charging docks.
Who ever had issues with the design of the Dualshock 3? The triggers were great and I play quite a few FPS games. I am curious about the button mapping for games like planetside 2 but other than that I'm only disappointed that a USB cable is not included I have an extra one that came with a headset. The controller is 60 bucks just put a cable in the damn box,I think they will begin including cables after enough complaints. I could just get a charging dock but I don't wanna have to.
The LED light symbolises which player you are e.g Blue(Player 1) also its a light move sensor which can be used with the PS Camera,it can also interact with the game meaning when health is low the light goes red etc. Its very innovative, considering the tech put into the controller the price is a great bargain.
Resistance 3 and Killzone 3 were two pretty big releases with no option to turn off aim assist.

I prefer the playstation controller layout, but I don't care if someone says they like the Xbox controller better. I DO care when someone says "Everybody knows the Xbox controller is better" or "Everybody knows the layout is more comfortable". Here's news for you: IT'S OK IF SOME PEOPLE PREFER THE PLAYSTATION CONTROLLER. Here's more news: THE XBOX CONTROLLER ISN'T MORE COMFORTABLE FOR EVERYBODY. I don't have that big of hands, and when I play on my friends Xbox, I always get sore hands.
Man have you felt both controllers?! The PS4 controller is insane... and this comes from a guy who played 360 for the whole console life, so my muscle memory is adjusted to the xbox controller. The PS4 one felt so natural and comfortable, perfect amount of weight, perfect shapes and curves, perfect chunkiness haha I love it personally
Have you felt the PS4 controller? I have one already, the triggers I can assure you are not cheap, nothing on this controller is cheap, its an extremely sturdy, well built controller. I loved the 360 controller, but this blows it away man honestly.
i think pad will be used in begin, but fall away later on, and only be used for start screen, and internet

I plugged it into my PS3 and I played NHL 14 and Cod Black Ops 2 with it haha was too sick! I don't have any PC games, but when I plugged it into my PC, it installed the driver for it and seen it as a wireless controller right away no problem! :D
IMO the face buttons X,O etc should've been placed a bit more far away from each other, When i got my hands on it, it felt a little too close to each other but maybe its something we'll just have to get used to

You can't say a controller is lame without considering the positives. I for one think both ps and xb controllers are both perfect in their own way.
There is a difference between gimmicks and improvements. For example: Wii remote was really cool in 2006, but when was the last time you played a 3rd party game that completely utilized it? Most games/all of the games use the nun chuck, and many people prefer the 10 year old GameCube controller over the wii remote. On the PS4 controller, Sony made improvements that may not change the way people play games like Nintendo is trying to do, but i'm pretty sure that's what they where aiming for.

I thought the dualshock 3 controller wasn't that comfortable to me because I was more used to the Xbox controller. Just by looking at it, it seems to be improved. It's somewhat like the Xbox controller now. The only difference is the analog placements.
It's the opposite for me, the stick layout just makes so much sense.

The Domed sticks of the DS3 are better for aiming. Also, the DS3 has better stick tension.

for it to tear off it would take like 8 years of extensive gameplay. my concern isn't that it will tear off, i just don't want my controller having a noticeable cut making its way through the stick.

Dude trust me, it's better. I was a huge 360 fan, I hated the ps3, hated the ps3 controller. I was a 360 fanboy lmfao I wasn't even going to get a ps4 til I seen it. But im telling you man, when I felt the PS4 controller, I was blown away. I was NOT expecting it to be better than Xbox's. The Xbox controller was always so perfect to me. But im telling u man this controller is CRAZY. It feels better, more natural, the triggers are even better than the xbox triggers. It's seriously great

I've always liked the d-pad on the dualshock controller better. I like that it's 4 individual buttons, and that they aren't connected to each other. With the 360 controller, I always find myself pressing two buttons on the d-pad, when I actually just want to press one. Unfortunately, I think the xbox one controller will have the same problem, seeing that the d-pad looks very similar to the 360 controller. It's annoying as hell when trying to enter cheats for GTA V.
@DaveGX(On mobile no reply button) DICE put a Veteran control layout for people who want the controls to be more like BF3, and there are tons of on/off options.
Shooting and aiming is the biggest part of console gaming, the controller has to be good for it.
And thats exactly why they changed them!
I personally dont mind them, I actually like em way more than I did Xbox controllers (But then again, I have small hands). I hope the D4 is far enough from D3 to please the people that didnt like them but are still close enough to home to not feel completely different for people that did enjoy the D2 & 3.
i just hope the analog sticks don't get trimmed at the the core of the stick after a long time of use like they did on the DS3.

Dualshock 4 might work with the 360. So that means it works with PS3, PS4, Vita TV, PC Mac and 360? This is the most compatible controller in history.

It's gonna feel weird holding the Dualshock 4. Playstation has used the same design since the PS1, I don't think they should've changed it.
If you buy the controller separately it doesn't come with a cable, but if you buy the PS4 it comes with it.
I think you have to have it connected with a micro usb in order to do that but yes it does work. For all games? I'm not sure.
The Dualshock was in desperate need of innovating. The original Dualshock was small and the shoulder buttons weren't good at all. I am so glad that they were able to make a controller that was improved in every way possible.
He forgot to mention DualShock 4 will not have pressure sensitive buttons anymore.
I have smallish hands anyway so i'm looking forward to returning back to PlayStation this generation. It looks good and i cant wait to get my hands on it :)
The dual shock will never be as good as the Xbox controllers. All reviewers have stated that the Xbox One controller is the most perfect controller for playing games.

shooting games are the only types of games that utilize the whole controller all the time in a fast paced environment. if you design a controller that works great for shooters, it will work great for everything else.
i love the dualshock 4. it's awesome. i especially like the new triggers, they're a huge improvement.
the one thing i don't like, is that the sticks don't have quite as much room to move around as the DS3. not a big deal once you get used to it though.
The 360 controller while very good wasn't perfect, your middle fingers feel kinda numbed out after being stuck in between the battery compartment for a long time and the bumper buttons are way to sensitive sometimes I'm not even sure I clicked on it on or not. And personally the dots on the analog sticks are irritating to my thumbs.
No, but PS4 will ship with one micro USB cable which u can commonly find on Android device chargers.
Why should they drastically change the Xbox controller? Don't fix what doesn't need fixing. The 360 controller is amazing, and they fixed the biggest fault in it, the d-pad. And added some cool new features too.
Controller is a preference. You can't say one is better than the other it's what you prefer and is more comfy with. I have been more comfy with dual shock. Loving the new controller!
You forgot to mention how the [_] and O buttons were more separated (accidentally) compared to X and /\ . You pointed it out in a video when Sony said this. Something no one really found out with the years. Honestly I do think it makes a difference when playing. Having them not to far apart makes it easier even if it's unconsciously.
