Thank you and glad you enjoyed this one. The Ranger handled well out there, but as to be expected when doing a trip of this scale, there were issues with some of the setup - the DC to DC battled on this one, a it was under powered to run the 2 fridges. Live and learn to make a plan. Keep well.

Awesome shots of the dogs. Spent 3 weeks there in March 2010 as well as 1 week in khutse. Didn't see dogs or cheetah but saw lions almost daily with 5 different large prides and several lone males. The sunsets and thunderstorms were spectacular. Would love to go again.

Hey James and Ellie, thank you for reaching out and your kind words. Much appreciated legends. If it is any consolation, ol Ed is supposed to be sitting in camp, at Khwai, Moremi right now, listening to hyenas kackling around camp. Hey Graham, thanks mate and much appreciated. It's a tough one. I think you just need to start. Filming and capturing any adventure is how I started. As long as you tell a story, create interest then the rest will happen. It's an expensive game, so, I had to start local. Doing the big trips costs allot of money out of our own pockets. Hence, we can only do 2 or 3 a year. Figure out what, where and how you want to travel, line it up, save, and make it happen. Hope this helps, but remember, it isn't easy, and there are allot of sacrifices, family and financial.
Hi 4x4venture, I am having a trip to CKGR end of this year. so is it possible to go there with a stock standard Tyre of Toyota Hilux or do i have to get a proper 4X4 Tyres.
Yes, anything is possible. But, do you have confidence with standard tyres. I've seen a KO2 tyre get caught in a stump and as a result, flat tyre. I would be very very cautious with standard tyres. Dodge the stumps very well. My preference is however a very strong and robust tyre. All terrain or muds, something with strong sidewalls. Goodwick and enjoy the adventure
Hey Richard, awesome mate. Yes, this is a good one to do, and as you know, all trips in the wild are an adventure for sure. Havent really thought of that . . .
Thank you Asher. Glad you enjoyed this one. It was a massively epic trip, and this is only the first 6 days. More to come bud. Thanks for the comms. Keep well and stay safe 🤟
Hi Ryan. Really great video and looks like a fantastic trip. Random question, but how do you protect the paintwork on your vehicle from driving through narrow sections of bush?
Hi Nicholas, thanks so much mate, and yes, a fantastic trip indeed. The short answer is, vinyl wrap. Costs a bomb, but saves the paint. Only down side is, you end up damaging the vinyl wrap. I reckon I will get 2 to 3 solid years off of this vinyl wrap from Wrap Vehicle SA. Hope this helps mate 🤙
Incredible video once again mate! Very informative too and just makes a man want to go and travel to the CKGR (hopefully it won't be too long until we have that freedom again!)
Thank you Carel, and 100%. Getting out to travel is a fix we are all missing. Glad this episode gets you thinking about your next adventure mate 🤙Hang in there
Thank you. At this stage we have very few plans for offering tours or joint trips, at this stage. We do however offer a camping 2 day getaway as Overlanding Escape to those that want to join, once a year. COVID allowing.
Hi Niel, the lights on the top are STEDI lights for the mining truck sector 2 X C4 floods and 2 X spots. Very bright with great coverage and light falloff.
You can buy them online at stedi-africa.co.za It is a tough time at the moment for all import shops as a result of COVID. Maybe find out about any order delays you might face first 🤟
Thanks bud. A special moment with the wild dogs. Not the norm to see them in the CKGR, so it was a surprise, and after not seeing much for 5 days, it became a major highlight of the trip, for sure. Keep well and stay safe 🤟
Awsome video mate!!! Hi quality production. Keep it up. One new subscriber. If I may ask, what DC/DC are you running, and battery setup in the ranger? The ranger looks wicked.
Hi Ray, thanks for the comment. I'm running 2 X 100amp hr AGM DC batteries in parallel ("one big battery") with a RING 30 Amp DC smart power management unit. It allows for solar input for DC's to charge and gives battery level readout. The Ring unit is also connected to startup battery for charge on the move, and switches off when vehicle not running. I also have 1000W trailblazer non pure sinewave inverter connected to ring unit to charge camera gear etc. Happy with the setup, but, in the future and one day when finance is right, I will swap out the AGM DC batteries with either 2 Lithium 120amp batteries or one 200 amp lithium battery for 2 fridges, charging of gear and Bluetooth integration on phone. Lithium has 5-7 year warranty and a lifespan of 10 years as opposed to the minimum 3 years with AGM. Also, would like to upgrade from the RING unit to either CYTEK or Redarc power management system, only because the RING unit is a slow charger to the DC batteries, and doesn't have AC power option when parked up for longer periods of time at home. For now though, it is a solid setup, just not optimised for the kind of longer trips I do. Good luck and hope this helps you 🤙
@@4x4ventures_southafrica Awsome!! I'm also running 2 fridges, and a 200ah lead crystal battery, and national luna NLDC-25 dcdc charger. I found that 2 fridges is a bit much is stationary for a long period of time, and the weather don't allow for perfect solar charge. Would love to do Lithium, but as you stated, cost per ah is still high. Thanx for the reply!! Maby a good idea to do a electrical setup video for the future!!! Would love to check it out
Thanks Ray, yes, solar is great but only if weather permitting. Look, Chris has just put lithium in on his trailer and the results are phenomenal. Charging a lithium is fantastically fast and power utilisation is really something to see. I was very very impressed with how it made his trip less worrisome. Ed and I were constantly nervous, especially when there was no sun. I have so much content to go through and edit, so hang in there. Here's a quick question if I may. Would you be happy to watch an hour long episode, or do you think shorter is better? Do you think your opinion would fall under a general opinion of the subscribers to be okay to watch longer episodes? My limpopo overlanding adventure episode is a monster and thinking of cutting one long episode. Thanks for the help
Thank you mate. I have the one sold from Front Runner Outfitters, which is a Gerber's long Range tank - 83 Ltr. With bigger tyres, I lose the option to house the tyre underneath the vehicle at the back, but a thinner tyre will still fit. Goodluck.
Epic video 😎... I’m just getting into overloading and I have been binge watching your videos for the last few hours, you’ll notice the likes 😉 and as i watch, I get more & more excited... can’t wait for my first trip😀... How is the 2.2 with the load? Is it auto?
Hey Sherwin. Thank you for your support 🙌 I have the 2.2 Manual. A bit underpowered when under full load. You do feel it, and especially when towing. No problems otherwise. Strong little motor, and even when towing, she gets through the thick stuff.
@4x4ventures Hi Ryan🙋🏽♂️, yeah there are truly strong, I constantly tow cherry pickers for work incl tools in the back and yes she goes perfectly, however its a supercab and planning to upgrade to a DC auto 4x4, just deciding between the 2.2 or 3.2. I'm thinking 2.2 XL and use the difference in money for kitting it up 😀
Good move, make it your own. Why not manual? It is a good option, and without being too otherwise, heard the autos transmission case can be a problem on both 2.2 and 3.2. Personally enjoy manual as I get to feel and control the shifts. Good luck bud, and enjoy. Hope to see you out there. P.S. If you going to be towing, a 3.2 might be better. Less sluggish.
One more question is: what Tyre pressure on a fully loaded Conqueror Compact 2 Offroad Trailer especially with its 110l capacity of water when reaching the dirt roads of CKGR and also what Tyre pressure on the bakkie?
With a fully loaded trailer on tar I set tyre pressure to 2.4 bar. On dirt, fully loaded I drop to 1.8 bar. Take it easy when travelling with a fully loaded trailer. It's not all about tyres and suspension, all of the time. 8 times out of 10, its about common sense when driving thick sand. Momentum, good steering, gear shifts, and tyre pressure will always win a tough obstacle.
That's an easy one. National Luna. It is more compressor efficient and seems to have better insulation IMO. Good luck mate, beers will be cold for sure 👍
Guys this is great and I hope to collaborate with you in the future. I am planning to cover the people of the CKGR extensively. A Bushman cultural village with overnight facilities is in the cards. It would be fun to hook up and send tourists to this ancient village
Thanks Peter, but don’t see how ads make for a bad job, especially when it’s the only way I earn revenue, and, ads don’t need to be declared. Buy into TH-cam premium to prevent ads. and prevent free content for you, or, don’t watch. Either way your choice👌
Channel has potential but way to much shameless product pushing completely kills the emersion! Us in the overlanding world who cant get on the road as much as we like look to the full timers for that get away ! However camera work is on point and seem to be a likeable guy. Please dont take any of this as an insult its not ment to be. Maybe all the sponsorship in the beginning or end? Gear review stuff is good imho.Hope you dont take this wrong way ,i was just getting really annoyed by product placement! Did give it a like and sub for the visuals.
Hey Megan, thank you for your honesty and constructive criticism. I'm a big boy and i appreciate feedback like this. Yes, it has been something I haven't enjoyed doing as of late. Pushing brands does make the video trips feel a bit too "punty" / corporate. Will rectify it on the next one, and please, let me know ehat you think. Thanks again and for your support. Appreciated big time. Keep well and stay safe.
@@4x4ventures_southafrica glad you did not get offended! Like i said the video quality was on point my friend.
Your filming of the wild dogs chase is hella dope, NatGeo Wild stuff 👌👌
Now that's an awesome comment. Maybe share it with Nat Geo. Help a brother out. Much appreciated bud, serious. Worked hard on that one 🤙
@@4x4ventures_southafrica I'll definitely holler at NAT Geo 😂😂👌👌
My beautiful Botswana
Botswana is magic!
Awesome video 👌. which long range tank do you have!? Is it the one from frontrunner?
Thank you mate. I have the one sold from Front Runner Outfitters, which is a Gerber's long Range tank - 83 Ltr. With bigger tyres, I lose the option to house the tyre underneath the vehicle at the back, but a thinner tyre will still fit. Goodluck.
@@4x4ventures_southafrica thank you for the detailed feedback.. And we appreciate the experience you share with us. 👍
BIG UPS mate. Appreciate that. Always helps motivate us 🙌
Season raining 🌧 Kalahari it's incredible 😍
I enjoyed this documentary keep up bro 💪
Thank you 🙌
One more question is: what Tyre pressure on a fully loaded Conqueror Compact 2 Offroad Trailer especially with its 110l capacity of water when reaching the dirt roads of CKGR and also what Tyre pressure on the bakkie?
With a fully loaded trailer on tar I set tyre pressure to 2.4 bar. On dirt, fully loaded I drop to 1.8 bar. Take it easy when travelling with a fully loaded trailer. It's not all about tyres and suspension, all of the time. 8 times out of 10, its about common sense when driving thick sand. Momentum, good steering, gear shifts, and tyre pressure will always win a tough obstacle.
Out of curiosity, how do you change a flat tire on sand? That sand looks so soft and clayish, sure the jerk will sink
We use a plate for the hydraulic bottle jack. Easy as pie. Prevents Jack's sinking if you have a wider surface area
Loving the positivity!
Touché. Glad you enjoyed it. Stay tuned for episode 2. Keep well.
👍👍❤💪
What vehicles are you using?
On this trip there was a fortuner 4x4, a land cruiser 200, a Toyota troopy and the ranger 2.2 XL 4x4. An amazing convoy and good people 🤙
13:42 - i dont remember ever seeing Chris without a hat :) , you would think its not him there with the shades and no hat.
🤣🤣🤣 yeh, he has a thing about not filming him without his hat on
Wow!! What great footage and overall edit, can I ask what editing software you’re using? Absolutely amazing 🤩
Adobe Premiere Pro 🤙
Cheers from 🇸🇪 from a 🇨🇭 who almost moved to ZA
Cheers mate, and thank you for the comment 🤙
def deserve a few ice cold frosties after that wild dog hunt
It happened and we definitely did. Always refreshing that's for sure
Hope Edward had more Than 3 long toms 😄
3 long Toms, that definitely won't cut it. A few more that that
@@4x4ventures_southafrica Ryan last question my man national Luna or snowmaster fridge?
That's an easy one. National Luna. It is more compressor efficient and seems to have better insulation IMO. Good luck mate, beers will be cold for sure 👍
The sunset with storm clouds, video clips and pictures don't do justice to the actual experience...
Guys this is great and I hope to collaborate with you in the future. I am planning to cover the people of the CKGR extensively. A Bushman cultural village with overnight facilities is in the cards. It would be fun to hook up and send tourists to this ancient village
Only commercials, undeclared. Bad job, boys…
I do understand the pressure's of sponsorship because i have been through it in regards to racing my Evo in time attack and hill climbs but those days are gone wife felt it was too dangerous now that we have children.Thats why i got into overlanding.God Bless from America!
You guys should keep our Rhinos off your videos especially mentioning where they are.
Poachers could be watching
