    This reaction is genuine happiness. Not because of the money related to the Black Lotus. You truly treasure MTG cards. As much as I want that card for myself, I honestly felt deep satisfaction watching that video. You deserve it!

    • @metaparcel
      @metaparcel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I don't think it matters if you treasure a game or not. Your feelings are attached to it are quite special but to be very honest the most important part about this is that you get to get a legendary card and it's worth a lot of money. The card cannot change lives but selling it can. there's no purity in believing that if you love the game for non-monetary reasons you are somehow special. The card was created by for profit company with for profit motivations. people forget that the game continues because a company sees that it is profitable not because of something being genuine or not. Happiness didn't pay for all your magic cards either.

    There's so many people being really rude and making fun of his hands shaking and him breathing heavily but literally anyone in the world would be extremely nervous if they were opening something that potentially could be worth over $20,000, especially since all it takes is one minor slip up for the cards to plummet in price.

      Mighty Midget
      More or less you just said you want these people to be less passionate about their hobby. I play the game religiously, and yes I look exactly like I seem in my picture. Also, with the given descriptions of said men at the bus stop, have you considered that they might have turned to Magic as a result of judgemental people like yourself who would just as easily look down on them while at the gym or night club? At least they're among friends, who are probably more loyal than anyone at the places you'd like to see them try to go.

    This is perfect. I love the blatant examples of sheer ignorance towards what is happening in this video. Dude is happy? Let's tear him down! Dude isn't like me? Let's tear him down! Dude got lucky? Let's tear him down! Dude is doing something I don't understand? Let's tear him the fuck down!
    Why is it so difficult to accept people and what they do, even if it's different from what others do? I'm not some neckbeard loser and I am not an obese slob, but I can say that I play MtG. Have I been in a relationship? Yeah. Have I played sports? Yup. Am I smart? I'd like to think. Am I cool? That's a matter of perspective. Am I popular? No, I'm more of an "every-man". Am I different than you? 100%. Do I criticize others for being different? No, because it hurts them and hurts me.
    He just made bank and is doing what he loves, why should I be able to tell him he's wrong and talk down on that entire culture of people? I play card games. He plays card games. Millions of other people play card games. So. The. Fuck. What. Let people do what they want free of criticism.
    If it isn't your thing, fine. But it's his thing and it's my thing. Going to tournaments and making friends and meeting new people and travelling all come with playing cards games. It's a competitive thing that not everybody can do, so to each their own.
    I'm disgusted at these ill intended and ridiculous comments and assumptions. They're actually really mean and potentially hurtful. You should be ashamed.
    I'm not the one to sugar-coat things, so I'll say it straight out to the people making rude and inconsiderate comments: Don't like it? Fuck off then. Don't ruin good things with your stupidity, you fucking cunts. Go back to doing what you like, because clearly this isn't where you belong.

    It's kind of amazing to see someone so happy about a simple card and how much value they place on it and what makes it more amazing to see groups of people saying it's not a big deal it's just a card; it just shows so much about society and values in niches (also I don't care about this card game and never really shall.) It's also amazing how instantly people make fun of others for something the don't understand, me personally I had no idea why this was so popular until I read comments, it's quite saddening to call this guy out as a virgin and no life; just shows how uncivilized our society is.

      What gets me is that most of the people who criticize it (the card worth AND the YTer's reaction) clearly do not play the game. Which begs the question: WHY are they watching the video to begin with? If I didn't like videos on peeling apples I wouldn't seek them out and then belittle everyone on them for choosing to peel them rather than eat skin and all, let alone paying 5$ a bag for some simple fruits. No, instead, I would seek out videos on topics I actually care about.

    Vote this comment up so people who are wondering why the fuck he has gloves on is because these cards are WAY out of print meaning the odds of finding them out in the "wild" is virtually non existent
    Likewise the final card is incredibly good(in the game) and is worth anywhere from 9k-100k dollars(though usually around 30k) due to its rarity and power
    He essentually won 100,000 dollars for roughly 10 bucks
    Now if you are wondering why the shit its worth so much is because of the aforemention reason and it would be like opening a old box of baseball bats and finding Babe Ruth's first bat

    Wow - so many rude comments on here... For those who are asking, the black lotus card is the most expensive one in the whole game. If you look it up online, it's worth thousands. I know it might seem silly to pay that much for a piece of paper with ink on it. But I ask you, how much is that $5 bill worth in your wallet? $5. But why? It's just a piece of paper/plastic (if you live in Canada) with ink on it. Simply put, it's the market value of that item that makes it "worth" that much. Same thing goes for all cards.
    Thanks for making this video - I appreciate you sharing an alpha opening with us.

      A Black Lotus is just like any other extremely rare item that a lot of people collect. A LOT of rare items may not seem much by the eyes of "normal" people, but they do worth a lot just for their rarity.
      But don't spent your time trying to argue or use common sense with the youtube comments... 90% percent of the people who comment on TH-cam are stupid jackasses who have nothing better to do with their time other than be rude to other people. Or, they are simply jealous... That is a possibility too.

      you can describe anything with that level of simplicity if you really wanted too. the mona lisa is just a piece of paper with some colorful goop on it making it look like some lady. stonehenge is just some rocks stacked on each other, same with the pyramids. the hope diamond is just a piece of crystallized carbon that happens to be bigger than the rest and the grand canyon is just a big crack. ya see?

    Something becomes valuable when others seek it as rare or when thought of highly. One person's trash is another person's treasure. There are people who would call the Mona Lisa, just paint on a canvad, all about perspective

    • @andrewwebsterphillips
      @andrewwebsterphillips 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MyLittleHecarim Yeah, but if you mention the Mona Lisa someone might say it is more valuable since there are copies of the same card even if it is just 1100 and the Mona Lisa is a one of a kind and hand painted hundreds of years ago. It is the same concept whoever, and the difference easily correlates to the monetary value. $30,000 might seem like a lot for a piece of cardboard but the Mona Lisa is worth about $750,000.

    MacFyben I don't understand why the majority of assholes or "haters" are even on this video commenting in the first place. If you don't enjoy the game, that is fine. However, that doesn't mean you are entitled to your harsh remarks. Opinions have thought and logic to it, insults are irrational, not thoughtful, and make you look like a complete douche bag. I can admit I don't play Magic nor have any interest in it, but you don't see me insulting the guy for his reaction in this video, which reminds me..
    Why are people judging the guy in the video about a card that is worth 30,000 dollars and him wearing gloves? This shit is no different than a jewelry store where the guy is busting our his tools to hold a diamond without touching or this is no different that an idiot who spends $100 on tickets to watch sweaty guys throw a football. This is no different than a guy who thinks 50,000 dollars on a car is a good investment (and for those ignorant, 50,000 isn't needed for a car. I can easily save that money for a house and take bus). The method the guy is using to handle the card and the value that this card is placed as, no different than what we see in today's society. People need to understand that value is *arbitrary*. Rare means not very often, limited quantities. Just because the card is a piece of paper doesn't mean it isn't rare. Goddamn, there is always a bunch of illogical haters and dumbasses that I feel the need to reply to.

People who comment that are probably the one playing Call of duty wishing that they were in FaZe because why? "oh it the greatest acheivement in life?" Bullshit! See this is why people are heavily censored because they go around dictating what someone plays and people like that needs to really get a life!! This guy enjoys playing MTG and I completely understand because it his hobby and we all have hobbies!! So what if he reacts to a piece of cardboard worth 25,000 bucks!? It his money!! But you guys play Call of Duty trying to achieve a 720 noscope across the map for endless hours a day? Tell me who has a better life a guy who play locals at comic book store or card store making new friends or the guy who spends hours in his house behind a televison screen trying to do noscopes think that MLG will find him/her? I'd just like to point out that this isn't just the best and most valuable non-promotional card ever created- it also hasn't been touched by human hands since it was printed over 20 years ago. It has sat, sealed away from light, FOR LONGER THAN SOME PEOPLE WHO ARE CURRENTLY SERVING IN THE MILITARY HAVE EVEN BEEN ALIVE. It hasn't known air since before the O.J. SIMPSON TRIAL. The last time human eyes gazed on this piece of cardstock, NIRVANA WAS STILL TOURING. This card was sealed in plastic THREE YEARS BEFORE SPACE JAM CAME OUT. This card was printed into life before iD software released DOOM (their capitalization, not mine.)
    While the same can be said of all the cards in this sealed starter, the Black Lotus is a modern legend in collectables- of the 2.6 million cards printed for the Alpha edition of Magic only 1100 of them were Black Lotuses, which is something like .0004%, and dude only gets two rares per sealed box of Alpha cards (boxes which can go for thousands of dollars a piece) AND the way card sheets were printed in Alpha he could have gotten a basic land as his "rare." Homeboy wasn't just tenacious or lucky or obsessive.
    This card was waiting for him.
    See how he practically drops the card? It's because it seems actually impossible that he is really holding it. It's like he has been slapped in the face by the undeniable reality of the moment. He even says "That shouldn't happen."
    Think about how careful he is to not look at the rare until last- he has engineered the perfect circumstances for a perfect moment. An entire deck of cards whittled away somewhat casually, the laughing remark about the possibility of a Black Lotus and then GUNSHOT-FIREWORKS-ALDERANEXPLODING it is there in his hand, looking back at him with the inanimate object equivalent of a detached glance from behind a cloud of cigarette smoke; "What?"
    No matter who you are or how happy your life is, you will never have his "HOLY BOOSH" moment. It is his, and his alone. We may only observe.
    Despite this, I don't envy him the inevitable existential crisis that finding this card will bring about, since there really isn't any higher imaginable joy as a Magic player or collector, short of finding another Lotus.
    Though, I'd be pretty happy if you decide to give me one of those swamps.

      @@waaaghboss64 PSA have been grading cards long before magic was even a thing, and are the difference between millions of dollars in evaluations with sports cards. So what if a few random magic cards arent graded to the best standard, its unfortunate but they still have an amazing track record. Grading cards by something other than the eye test is important, especially when people think that every card that comes out of a pack is equal unless it is obviously misprinted, or when people who were apparently grading collectables " long" before a company founded over thirty years ago. Either you are absolutely ancient or are severely misjudging your qualifications in the matter.
