Smoked a trial turkey yesterday for thanksgiving using his exact recipe. It turned out amazing. Extremely tender and juicy. Never had one as juicy. I highly recommend using this recipe.
Man I did too and it was killer! It took me a hell of a lot longer than 4 hours to get mine up to temp though, at 300 degrees. I think I went nearly 6 hours on a 12 Lb bird and it still wasnt 100 percent done. Little salmonella never hurt anybody. Xsept grandpa. RIP

I did my first smoked turkey yesterday 7-27-17 and it was the best turkey I had ever had. My family loved it and told me that whatever I did with this turkey to do it from now on. Even my 3 year old said it was delicious. I followed the recipe to the tee with the exception of the wood. Unfortunately here in the mid west is hard to find oak so I did it with hickory. Thanks so much for your wonderful recipe, from now on you are my go to person for BBQ!
Malcom - Today you single handedly helped me cook my first thanksgiving turkey as the ‘man of the house’ for my wife, newborn daughter, and my in-laws. It came in just perfect and everyone absolutely loved it - as you said they would. Thanks a million and congrats on all your success since making this video!
Followed this recipe and it came out amazing. I have a Pit Boss Austin XL. I set it to 300 degrees and our 15lb turkey cooked for 3 hours. When it reached 167 degrees I pulled it and let it rest. Everyone loved it! Thanks Malcom! First time doing this. Definitely not my last! Happy Thanksgiving!
Last year was the first go around for turkey, I wanted to try this method because I follow your videos religiously for brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and lamb. Everyone that has tried my smoked offerings are just blown away as to how good the meat is. So last year when I announced to the wife that I was trying your method of making turkey on the smoker, she said "I hate smoked turkey". After the bird was removed from the smoker, allowed to rest for about 45 minutes, and then carved, the wife took a piece, I could see she was reluctantly trying it, her face lit up and low and behold her comment was "this is the best turkey I ever had" we are in our late 60's, so needless to say we have had a lot of turkey made many ways. So she was very eager to make our turkey the same way this year. As a side note, kudos to you and your videos, you are truly the KING of smoking, thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge in the world of smoking!!! A fan forever!
Same here. I followed this recipe step by step. Friends and relatives who told me they don't eat turkey, went through the one I smoked last year like it was their last meal. Doing it again this year by popular demand! LOL!!
How long should you let the turkey rest before carving and serving. This is the first year we will be doing a smoked turkey. Really looking forward to it.
Love watching these older videos. You’ve come a long way in your video production, Malcolm and Rachelle. Watched all these turkey videos as a refresher. Thank you so much, you’re a blessing. Have a great thanksgiving!

I've had this video favorited for a long time. Was just able to find a turkey a few days ago. Just got mine in the brine! I am so excited for this ! Ive smoke all kinds of meats but this is actually my first turkey. I'm tired of everyone in my family ruining turkeys for the holidays so this is my practice run here in late October. I'm doing a few things differently, however: -1/2 cup of molasses instead of 1 cup. -50/50 blend of pecan and cherry pellets -smoking at 225°F for about 7 hours (14 lb bird) Will be back tomorrow night with the results ! Thanks Malcolm,.love your stuff, killer hogs goes hard man !
@@mattallen9546 it was great like everyone else is saying haha. I ended up using only cherry pellets and I think it would be better with hickory. But it was extremely moist and juicy. I accidentally put the turkey on upside down so the breast meat had some good charring, although it was very tasty, just lost the presentation factor. Also. I don't normally eat the dark meat, but man it was PACKED with flavor. Everybody loved it, even my mom who is notoriously picky and sensitive to spicy foods loved it.
Hi Malcom. I followed this recipe this Thanksgiving, and man I tell you, the turkey came out perfect. I purchased a pellet smoker (Grilla) about 2 years ago and attended 2 different BBQ and smoking workshops. But the best information and recipes I have learned are right here, from Malcom. I experimented with different rib and brisket recipes, but when I followed the instructions from Malcom my freinds and neighbors raved. So, I finally had the opportunity to try smoking a turkey. Went to my go to guide and followed this instruction and Voila! First attempt and it was the best turkey we have ever had. Better than oven (and it now frees that up for other things come Thanksgiving) and better (easier and safer) than frying one. Thank you Malcom for your spot on, great recipes and videos!
That’s the same with me, I’ve been doing his ribs for awhile now but this Thanksgiving will be my first smoked turkey I’m doing. Just need to find a good poultry rub
I have also followed this 100% twice and now have been told I WILL be doing it again for Thanksgiving this year. Anyone just thinking about trying this.... stop thinking and go for it!!!!!!
I used your recipe this Thanksgiving. It was a huge hit. My wife kept sneaking pieces off the bird. It was so tender and juicy. I used my Weber Gold. My mother-in-law thought I was crazy to cook a turkey on the grill. But now she wants me to cook the turkey for every holiday and I mean every holiday. Great recipe Malcom. The turkey went so fast I didn't get a chance to take any pictures but I will this Christmas. It has already been told to me that it is a must have dish. Everyone wants to watch me cook this. I told them go to HowToBBQRight Malcom Reed. I did say this turkey was done Killer Hog Style!!!!!! The hardest part was keeping the temperature. Other than that it was super simple. The only thing I did different was I added some flavored butter under the skin over the breast I also cooked it in a roasting pan to protect my bird from the heat. The gravy juice it produced was amazing. A little chicken broth for moisture and some onion, carrots, and celery in the pan caught all the goodness from the turkey. Thanks again for this one. Happy Holidays from Augusta, Georgia.
Birds, pigs, beef, doesn’t matter dude knows it all! I’ve followed his steps and smoked some life changing meat!! Only channel I follow! Thanks for everything Malcom!!
My nephew followed your instructions to the letter. He smoked his first turkey this past Thanksgiving. IT WAS AMAZING!! His Dad usually smokes in our family and he has officially been relieved of duty. That was the best turkey any of us have ever had. I asked my nephew for the recipe so I can smoke a turkey for Christmas. I hope I don't screw it up! lol!

After buying my smoker a couple of years ago, I pretty much turn to this channel when I need tips or ideas for something different, it never disappoints!
This is seriously an amazing recipe. My husband smoked our turkey this year and it was the best turkey we've ever had. We highly recommend this recipe.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I’m in the process of doing a bird for Christmas dinner. Looking forward to another great meal and a great turkey soup to follow.
This video is sort of like the annual holiday reboot to sharpen our skills before the big family gathering. Ain’t nobody wanna end up with a Griswold turkey! 🤣
Family doesn't appreciate the labor of thanksgiving! It starts FOR ME around the Saturday before! With thawing, marinating, chopping.... it's a good 3 days!
That's the truth right there. Its several straight days of preparing the brine, letting it soak, shopping for all your ingredients, cutting up the fruits and veggies to stuff it with, pulling the bird out of the brine to prepare it for the smoker by rubbing it down and injecting it, getting the smoker up to temp, putting the bird on and keeping s watchful eye on it,basting it and covering with foil when it gets to the perfect darkness........its many hours of labor just for others to grab a plate and throw some of your awesome turkey on it and devour it in seconds!
Second time smoking, first time smoking a turkey. Charcoal Dyna Glo wide body. Wanted to smoke a turkey before the big day in November, followed the tutorial and the final product was phenomenal. Best turkey ever.
I have always been a fried turkey guy. I tried this today and it was unbelievably delicious. It is the absolute best turkey I've ever had. No more frying for me. Thank you Malcom for giving out this recipe.
I first watched this and learned in 2015 (I think) and now in 2019 I’m coming back for a refresher course. I’ve never been the injector type but this year I think I will lol. Good looking out, Reed. I and my family thank you✊🏾
I followed your instructions to the T and my bird came out fabulous! There was nothing left after THANKSGIVING DINNER!! The entire family enjoyed it and now I'm making another one for CHRISTMAS DINNER! Thank you for your instructions for smoking a turkey!!!

I made this last thanksgiving…… the prep time was worth every second. After we pulled the bird from the pit and rested it for an hour the meat was “WET!” I’m talking dog gone dripping wet. Every bite was bursting with juicy goodness. I measure a meals success by how many people are talking during dinner. Not a single person said a word during this meal. Thanks Malcolm.
I hope I don't screw it up! lol!
Well, I'm back again this year for a refresher course. This is the best smoked turkey we've ever tried. Thank you Malcolm!
I smoked a turkey this weekend following your recipe exactly and I was like a rockstar! Everyone gave me so many compliments on how it turned out. Thanks for posting this recipe!
Aaron Aguilar Glad to hear it!
I tried this recipe for Christmas yesterday for my first ever Turkey (normally my old man makes it) and nailed it in my bullet smoker. Thanks Malcom! After buying my smoker a couple of years ago, I pretty much turn to this channel when I need tips or ideas for something different, it never disappoints!
The magic with this recipe is the brine. I’ve used it twice and its the winner of winners. Can’t go wrong. My favorite smoked turkey recipe.
This is seriously an amazing recipe. My husband smoked our turkey this year and it was the best turkey we've ever had. We highly recommend this recipe.
I followed this recipe and I won't make a turkey any other way, its the best turkey I've had. Awesome! Thank you.
Been making my turkeys just like this for 6 years now it's a hit every year
Malcom is the absolute best when it comes to smoking! I especially suggest his smoked spare ribs on you tube. They are the absolute bomb!!
Lance Duvalian I tried that recipe and it was great. About tired of people asking me to make it that's a long process lol
I will give it a go. Thank you!
Over the years, im responsible for about 50 of these veiws.
I have around 40. Its game time tomorrow
Ditto
Good luck today boys. Just got the grill heating up.
I've used this recipe the last four years and I will be using it again this year. My family loves this smoked turkey. I have one son who never liked turkey before--but he loves this kind. Thanks, Malcom!
I want to thank you so much. I tried this for the first time today, and this was by far the best turkey I’ve ever had in my life! There was nothing left! Thank you again.
Malcom you are the man! Can’t wait to try this in a few days for thanksgiving. You are my go to for any smoker recipe. Ever since I bought a smoker I’ve used all your recipes for every meat I’ve cooked and they have all been fantastic. Your products on your website are top notch too, only place I get my stuff from. I appreciate everything you do.
Did you do this Turkey? It’s my third year running and people are raving
@@Jordan-gl1jz I sure did. Same here. Best turkey I have had and my father in law says I now have to make one every year for TG. Lol. Glad to hear it’s going great for you too.
you’re the man Malcom, i’ll be doing this thanksgiving day
I'm gunna try this on Thanksgiving. My 1st smoked Turkey.
He is the truth! His brisket, ribs, whole hogs, pork shoulders all look so doggone good
I'm going to do the same hopefully I don't ruin Thanksgiving 😅
malcom is the man... this is my GO-TO smoked turkey recipe and it's bangin!
Going to smoke my first turkey tomorrow also for thanksgiving! Hoping I don’t screw up either lmao! This guy is the truth! I’m going to follow his steps for sure
I tried this process with a turkey I was catering a Christmas staff party. I got rave responses from other knowledgeable cooks. It was the best tasting turkey I have ever cooked. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I’m in the process of doing a bird for Christmas dinner. Looking forward to another great meal and a great turkey soup to follow.
This is my second year using this recipe. Our family is still raving about how good this turkey was! Thanks man.
Ahem.
Gentlemen. I see that we are all back. Some are back after years, some are here for their first time smoking a Turkey. I wish you all luck.
good seeing you again brother, this has been a long time coming to this video once more
This video is sort of like the annual holiday reboot to sharpen our skills before the big family gathering. Ain’t nobody wanna end up with a Griswold turkey! 🤣
Trying this year Mr Reed. Did your smoked brisket last year for christmas. The inlaws killed it! Nothing left. Thanks!
Official_Katelyn doing this as well. good luck!
Family doesn't appreciate the labor of thanksgiving! It starts FOR ME around the Saturday before! With thawing, marinating, chopping.... it's a good 3 days!
Malcolm Agee THIS. YES!!! 💯
Truth!
So true bro
I and my family thank you✊🏾
Same bro,I've follow exact instructions , trust me you'll regret not injecting before 😏
I followed your instructions to the T and my bird came out fabulous! There was nothing left after THANKSGIVING DINNER!! The entire family enjoyed it and now I'm making another one for CHRISTMAS DINNER! Thank you for your instructions for smoking a turkey!!!
I'm following this exact recipe for my first smoked turkey.
Same
Like he said, you will never go back to cooking a turkey any other way. Year after year these brined and smoked turkeys steal the show.
it changed my entire opinion on turkeys.
@Hector Cavazos Jr it was a in hit! I'll be talking about it on Sunday podcast!
making this right now, about 3 hours in, and it’s one of the best smelling pieces of meat I’ve ever had on the smoker. Also basted with melted butter with rosemary every 45 min so far like you did in your newest turkey video. can’t wait to try it!
Got a smoker for Christmas and just did this recipe for new years and no turkey left overs. Great!
I used this recipe for my family’s thanksgiving this year and it was a hit! I got married in July and did one for my in-laws as well and they loved it! Been asked to do one for Christmas, too!
Thanks for the videos!
Back again for 2019. You ain't lying, once I smoked a turkey, I never went back to frying.
Daniel Dempsey really?! Better than fryin? I’m IN
@@monsterconundrum Absolutely. Ive done side by side comparisons, and smoking was much better. Not a single person at a 25 person thanksgiving celebration said the fried turkey was better. Resounding agreement that smoked is the way to go.
@@dandempsey7195 I'm excited. I bought 2 this year, never smoked one. The fried one is always a hit, but I'm excited for a smoked one
I tried it but couldn't find any wrapping paper big enough and it wouldn't fit in a pipe.
Plus all that darn oil
Old but gold video. Second year following this recipe! And it won’t be my last! Thank you Malcom! Keep doing what you’re doing!👊🏽
Smoked a Turkey today for Thanksgiving on my wood smoker using Mesquite and Cherry wood following your recipe! Came out excellent and they were picking at the bones to get every little piece they could! Everybody was saying how good it was and sister in law said it was the best Turkey she ever ate in her life! They wanted me to fry one again but glad I smoked it! I bet they gonna want a smoked one next year! Thx MR!! 🦃
Very much appreciate your videos!!
I've been using this recipe for the last 3 years and everyone is always blown away at how good the turkey is! Great job bud!
Even after five years I’m still coming back to this video
Crazy Dogs yup me too
I see we're all back here again this year.....
Mr. Reed I salute you. I tried your process and man was it the best thing made for Thanksgiving. Thank you sir!
Malcom has never let me down so when I was ready to smoke my first turkey I came here. Everyone loved it - HowToBBQRight comes through again. Thanks for all the great recipes
Discovered this video 3 years ago and won the family award for best Turkey! Been winning year after year since then, Thank you for the video my man!
Hey Malcom,
They say to find success online, particularly TH-cam, that you must add value to people's lives. I see professionals of all different kinds, helping people make money, find personal growth, build followings of all kinds. I like to make money and learn lots of stuff too. But mostly I like being happy, and I like making others happy. When I am smoking everybody is happy! There's not another person who shares more secrets or makes better videos than you. You are bringing more TRUE value to people than just about anybody. When I'm done cooking people are happy and that makes me happy. And for that I have you to thank! Thank you! Aloha! Al
Allen LaFan Thanks Allen! BBQ is a labor of love!
Yessir!

Thanksgiving is Thursday and I'm doing this for the third time in a row but this time with 5 turkeys since its our turn to host lol appreciation and greetings from Florida.
Wow 5 turkeys! Howd it turn out?
Last thanksgiving I followed your recipe. The best Turkey ever! this year I'm cooking the same way!😁 thanks for the video
Malcom,
My bird was amazing Moist & Tender and full of flavor.
It was on the smoker 3.5 hours at 275 - 300 degrees and was the hit of our thanksgiving day dinner
the skin color was nice & golden brown but not crispy but the wonderful flavor made up for that and it wasn't missed by anyone
Thanks for your great recipes which i have tried a few and will try more as you send them along
Thanks
Mike U
I’ve been on this recipe for 4 years now and since then I’ve been crowned with the best juicy turkey in the family no BS! This is the best I’ve made
I made this last thanksgiving…… the prep time was worth every second. I’m hoping it’s as good this year as last year.
Made this turkey today for Church small group this evening. Everyone loved it! Some said it was the best Turkey they have ever had. Thx for the recipe!
He's my "go to" Guy!! Love that Brother 💯
Mannnnnnn I come back every year to watch this video. Lol
same hahaha
Santiago Rebollo me too 😂
Same here! Second to None!
Well looks like it that time again 🤣😂🤣
You back again yet? Lol
After 3 years I still follow this recipe. Thanks again Malcom! Happy Thanksgiving!!! 🦃 🍽
Used this recipe and followed the instructions for the brine and it was hands down the best Thanksgiving Turkey we have ever had. The entire family loved it. The white meat was so moist! Thank you for this video.
Man I’m so glad I watched this! I’m definitely doing this for my family on Thanksgiving! This is awesome!
Where can I buy the injector and thermometer that you were using?
Malcom, I followed your recipe to a "T" except for the brine, but OH MY GOODNESS - YOU WERE SO RIGHT!!!! I may NEVER deep fry my turkey again!!!!!! It was soooo good!! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your videos! Bless you my friend and Happy Thanksgiving 2016!!!!!!
Did this smoked turkey today on my new Akorn Kamado smoker for Thanksgiving, by far the best turkey I’ve ever had and all of mine and my wife’s family kept giving compliments about how good it was. Thanks Malcom!!
Here I am ... back again to prep turkey for Thanksgiving 2023! I love to cook and have my favorite recipes and methods, but this one of Malcolm's I love and come back to every year. I don't know what it is about this video, maybe that it was made by Malcolm "back in the day" and his method back then was so "REAL" and the result was so WONDERFUL! Thank you Malcolm ... see ya next year!!!!!🥰
