You should do more reviews like this! It's a shame auto makers make it pretty much impossible to add aftermarket head units to most cars these days, especially in the luxury realm.
You are a genius!!! This is by far the absolute best review of a car radio I've ever seen! Talk about having the right tool for the job!! You are precise and offer the most educated explanation of the features of this wonderful radio that even someone who's not tech-savvy can understand. Best review of the Pioneer Avic-8200 NEX I've seen so far. You helped me to understand some of the features of this head unit which can be daunting to the casual user. I wish this unit had a better tilt screen to dispel some of the harsh glare and washing out of the screen in daylight. It needs a negative tilt and darker colors for daytime use. Otherwise it is a very good unit.

The only thing I am having trouble with is I wish there was an easy way to upload my Galaxy S7' s address book to the head unit. Heck maybe I am just too old and having a hard time keeping up on tech. Love the navigation very user friendly and detailed display.

OK, while I enjoyed the review, the funniest thing for me was my daughter walking by while I was watching and hysterically yelling "KITTY!!" at the computer. I had to rewind to figure out what part of a radio review brought that on, and it seems she looked over right during the whopping two seconds you had your phone on the screen with what looked like Beatrix looking through your speakeasy front door. Oh, the priorities of a child. LOL.
My idea of hell would be going on a country trip while listening to your Playlist and not being able to sleep. Great video though.
Any idea what the difference is between the 8200 and last year's 8100 model? It's not very clear from Pioneer's site, other than the 8200 actually lost a few (minor) features that the 8100 had. I'm primarily interested in speed... the 8100 is brutally slow at times, especially in the nav system.

My song title and artist does not scroll. For example, when I'm listening to Bluetooth Audio or SiriusXM, I generally have only part of a song title or artist displayed. Any tips on fixing this allowing scrolling? I turned Ever Scroll on Yes, but that didn't work.

This has an attractive feature set compared to my factory system. But I can't see it fit in the dashboard of my car without the use of at least a saw and a chisel, and maybe some dynamite.
The motor went out on my avic 120bt looking to upgrade....when the motor goes out for the screen. Many other options go with it. Concerned about this one

Question on AV / AUX / USB2 input sources. If I have an iPod classic hooked up via USB2 will it play video as well as audio? Your video only showed Music. I want to hook up iPhone via USB1 for CarPlay and then iPod Classic to USB2 and AV input maybe? What is your experience?
why does every feature pioneer offer require you buy additional items to use the features?

Yes. It seems there is no device that works with car buttons. The touchscreen response when using map is worse than a $60 mobile phone! The design of homescreen also makes it look cheap

One quick question, how do these aftermarket system integrate with car's OEM interface and functions? Say I can control my car settings evens safety settings via the screen, how can I do that with a unit like this?

Really enjoy your reviews. Been watching for a couple years now. Concerning this pioneer 8200 unit, will it, with proper , probably extra cost wiring/adaptors, provide full function for bluetooth, sirius, voice commands for phone and use of all steering wheel controls functions for vw products, specifically for a 2014 gti?
depends on the installer. I have a pioneer unit in my 2008 Santa Fe. Steering controls and rearview camera were integrated by the installer.
Does it have to be a specific microphone for auto EQ? I have a mic for auto EQ on my Denon home stereo.

I realize this question is 6 months old but YES you can probably connect your current backup camera. I say probably because you didn't specify your vehicle. Most use a standard RCA plug output, but there may be one or two proprietary cameras in cars. In my 2013 Camaro, the backup camera works with this unit.
What is the microphone you would need for the 8200 called?

If you get the Excellon series they are very good. What sold me on the Pioneer is the map detail and quality clarity of the display.
Cost of installation?
There are a lot of variables that affect installation price. Your location and local hourly rates, type of car, number of extra screens, steering wheel controls integration, number of cameras (1-2), XM antenna install, etc. Installation could cost $150+, find a local shop and get an estimate based on the features you'd like to buy and install. You could also install it over the weekend with an online guide for your car and proper adapter harness(es).
Hi Alex. I realise that you need to use advertising to support your work but it would be nice if you took some control of them. I don't know how TH-cam advertising works but I was listening to this video with headphones when, about halfway through, my ears were assaulted by a Sprint commercial that must have been at least bordering on twice the volume of the video. This is no way to treat your viewers.

Tricky. You would need to find out of a double-din radio will fit. Outlets like crutchfield have databases that you can look through to see what will fit.

These systems look so old. You should see the awesome stuff that Chinese manufacturers are doing with android head units... like Joying etc...
Would you know if this particular system supports the current temperature control displays in my 2009 Nissan Murano? I know the unit would fit my car, but I'm not sure if I would have digital display of temperature controls as my factory orange display does.
Im a big fan of pioneer and I have the 4100nex. I've been looking to upgrade but its like there's not much difference from what I have to all these newer models. I might go with soundstreem's dual 7" VRN-DD7HB cause of all the functions on it.

Hi Alex, I'm looking to get a 2016 Kia Sorento, so I am wondering how this unit compares to the stock Infinity unit in the Sorento SX regarding overall user interface, etc. Alternatively, I could go with the Sorento EX and replace the stock unit with this Pioneer unit (and would tune the system to the car). I'm aware of all the costs involved, etc., but just wondering how the overall interface compares, responsiveness, tuner quality, built in navigation quality, etc. Thanks
Also, just as a side note, forgot to mention the stock Kia unit now has available a free software update which gives you built in Android Auto and Apple Car Play.

Could I make the backup camera pop up on the display? My car had a Infotainment option but I was too dumb at the time to get it which meant my backup camera is located on the rear view mirror. So could I reroute the backup camera to appear on the infotainment display?

There is also a Pioneer appradio 4 which comes with a 6.2" capacitive display but no optical drive and only apple carplay for $600. And if you don't need navigation there is an AVH-4200NEX with the 7" resistive display and android auto + apple carplay for $700.
Do you know if that AVH-4200NEX supports android auto? I like the 8200 model Alex showing here , but I have an older SUV that i don't want invest $1300 in it...

this is not true about Android auto. just because it supports Android auto doesn't mean ur phone will work. all iPhones work because only one model. Android not all work i have nexus 6 doesn't work. very disappointed. Android auto is said to work on my phone but doesn't on pioneer. i own the Aviv 8100 last year's model.

unfortunately that is the result of having such a fractured OS. I finally switched to an iPhone because of this issue.
I was thinking the same but dam at least a nexus phone with Google clean should work.
