Benefit to a head lift front stand is that in a lot of cases you can get away without removing the front calipers to remove the front wheel. Just drop the front wheel a bit and twist the forks inwards. Saves a lot of time at the track when your changing wheels 2-3 times a day or more.
I know Pitbull and Woodcraft are the gold standard for stands but couldn’t be happier with my Vortex rear and triple tree front stands. Good quality and value. The Vortex might not be as over engineered and as robust as the Pitbulls and Woodcrafts but theyre still very heavy duty. They not like hose cheap $20-$60 stands which won’t even support your bike. I have Pitbull side stands though which are amazing. After spending loot on your bike, parts and gear its nice that Vortex has such good quality matched with great value.
It doesn't look like there is enough clearance to get the front wheel off. looks like 1" of light under the tire ( not enough to clear the front fender) and rolling the front wheel and tire forward would hit the stand....?
Woodcraft: It doesn't look like there is enough clearance to get the front wheel off. looks like 1" of light under the tire ( not enough to clear the front fender) and rolling the front wheel and tire forward would hit the stand....?
That is true you will need a different pin for most every bike. To date we have not had a model where we were not able to use the Pit Bull front stands on with the correct pin. That said I do know there are some models out there where there are clearance issues. Most of these are sport touring models. - Van
I really enjoy your Pitbull motorcycle stand education very informative you definitely sold me on the Pitbull stand I love watching you tearing those cheap Chinese ones apart from all of us in Canada thanks
i know this may be a dumb question, but is it good/ok to leave your bike on the stand when it's parked in the garage for winter storage ? or is the kickstand better?
If you have the stand use them for winter storage. It gets the tires off the ground (not a huge deal but nice to do) and reduces the space needed to store the bike in the garage a bit. - Brian Van
I have the cheap trackside rear stand from cyclegear and I have worked on a couple of bikes with it it's pretty stable but I do want a quality front stand in the future meaning when I get it I'll have the replace the rear with the same brand to be level.
I have the same set feom Cycle Gear you do. And while the rear is easy to use, I find the adjustable handle gimmicky. If anything, they could have made it removeable. The front stand and it's pivoting rubber mounting points are garbage. Several times now the forks slipped off the rubber while raising the bike. Unsafe. And unsat. And yes, I am deliberate with my alignments. It's just something in the design that concerns me eveey time I have to raise my front end.
the ONLY thing I don't like on the pitbull is the cad finish. Just doesn't hold up. I keep mine indoors, and still shows minor corrosion. Nothing like rust, but the finish doesn't look good
+Paul Britton We have a few different bikes around the shop here as well and are constantly adjusting this thing. I wouldn't expect that it would loosen up, but i guess we probably won't know for some time yet. If it is concerning for you then the Pitbull or Vortex would be great options as well.
The Woodcraft Spooled Rear Stand has adjustable height which allows you to reduce the lifting effort by setting the height near 1" from the ground. Works very well and is one of the best features this stand offers IMO. Here is a link to that stand on our site: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/woodcraft-adjustable-rear-spool-stand/ - Brian Van
@@sportbiketrackgearHow much weight do these adjustables hold? Since they are not adjustable with a safety bolt, they look like they could collapse if one of them tightening clamps gives out. Thoughts?
No they will not damage the bodywork as long as you use the correct pin. We recommend Pit Bull or Woodcraft stands for the best performance and stability. - Van
Sportbike Track Gear how about the calibers? Will they not scratch them either, sorry for the questions but just like to make sure as i have my bike in storage and the guy has assured me that they will not damage either the fairing or the caliber
I tried using this type of stand (vortex) but they are total garbage with a zx14. Maybe for a light bike they are acceptable. Even with 2 people this type of stands are garbage. Instead of spending a bunch of money on 2 stands that limit the work that can be done on them... try out an ABBA stand (with the extra bars).
The Vortex stand is more of a budget stand and does not offer the strength or build quality you will find with Pit Bull or Woodcraft. I am not familiar with ABBA so I have nothing to add there. The 14 is a big bike and you will be better served with a strong stand for sure. - Van
For the RC390 I would go with a Spooled Rear Stand. Here is a link to that on our site: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/pit-bull-spooled-rear-motorcycle-stand/ You will need a set of spools installed in the swingarm to use the stand as well. Pretty sure the spools are the same for all years of the 390. Here is a link to them on out site as well: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/driven-d-axis-swingarm-spools-ktm-rc390-2015/
I have not used that one nor seen it in person so I can not say much either way. In my experience any stand that requires much assembly before it is used is not the best option. The main frame of the stand really needs to be welded together in 1 piece to get the stability I like to see form a stand. - Van
+Sportbike Track Gear yeah. know they make quality stuff. got some clip ons I think from them on my ducati. but as a welder it pains me to see ugly welds even tho they are more than adequate for the job!
I love how he was teaching his son to be decisive when deciding between the easiest to lift
Buy the good stuff once so you don't have to replace it down later. - Van
Just brought my bike inside for the winter so this video came at the perfect time. Thanks for the info guys. My order will be put in shortly

Wow, Prices went up in 7 years !!!!!!!$$$$
Go buy a gallon of gas today. - Van
Very good video I would like to see some of the single side swing-arm stands

We do offer both the Driven and Vortex stands as out budget stands because we feel the same way you do.
Woodcraft is honestly the best. personally use them front and rear. quality and features are insane.
Woodcraft stands are excellent and offer features not found with other brands. We use both Pit Bull and Woodcraft. - Van
It doesn't look like there is enough clearance to get the front wheel off. looks like 1" of light under the tire ( not enough to clear the front fender) and rolling the front wheel and tire forward would hit the stand....?
I wouldn't waste my money on any of the lesser stands. Pitbull is the one to get. Extremely durable and modular.
They are a couple bucks more but worth the investment for sure. They will last longer than the bike. - Van
Woodcraft: It doesn't look like there is enough clearance to get the front wheel off. looks like 1" of light under the tire ( not enough to clear the front fender) and rolling the front wheel and tire forward would hit the stand....?
The front stand is adjustable height. If you need more clearance all you have to do is adjust it. - Van
Spools are preferred, but not having the option to switch to pads becomes really inconvenient when you crash and sheer off one or both of your spools.
That is both true and an excellent point. Had that happen to me once with my Honda RC-51. - Van
How wide does the pit bull stand adjust to? I've tried 3 different rear stands, including the vortex, and none of them have been wide enough.
I have the Pitbull stand but I find the tubing to be a little too bit sometime and the Woodcraft stand works a little better in tight front ends.
I couldn't get a Pit Bull stand in the UK so settled for a Harris Paddock stand
Funny how much the prices go up over even just a 5 year period.
This year has been full of price increases. - Van
I can’t get over how pitbull rear stand only uses one wheel on each side. How can that be more stable as the woodcraft stand which has four wheels?
Trust me when I tell you they are super stable. We have stands older than Max that we still use everyday. - Van
Nothing compares to my pitbull stands for storing my 10R, just ordered the vortex stands for a spare set/working on buddies bikes.
Pit Bull is the best for sure. The Vortex are not a bad middle of the road option. - Van
Only problem with the pin front end stands is different bikes may need different pins, and some bikes have stuff in the way of the center hole.
That is true you will need a different pin for most every bike. To date we have not had a model where we were not able to use the Pit Bull front stands on with the correct pin. Triumph Trianing Group I have a ninja 1000 and a thunderbird 1600 on pit bull stands for the winter.
What are your thoughts on the trackside brand rear stands? Are they good quality? Or cheap garbage
Those are basically Pit Bull knock offs made in China with craftsmanship that is not even close to what you find in a Pit Bull. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear gotcha, thanks for the input, buying a used pit bull stand today 👍

+Paul Britton True, you would really have to polish it to keep away the dulling.
Would be a consideration to have the stands sandblasted and powdercoated.
BEND??? the Woodcraft? I work on lot's of different bikes........wonder how many times you can bend it before it fatigues!!

Do you sell the bike tower?

just look at the weld difference of the woodcraft and pitbull..

Does it matter what size spools you have on your bike when buying a motorcycle stand?
+ebubekir binici Nope, it does not. Thanks for the comment!
and also are universal stands like venom adjustable?
I'm not sure about that brand as we do not carry it, but most are adjustable!
nice van .. i envy youre costom when you try youre best a shakehand greets you .. not here in my place .. hope my dad did the same ..
