I forgot to mention Dark Fury Its a sick animated movie, great ending song, badass villains, fits really well in the riddick universe as a follow up to Pitch Black
I love the chronicles of Riddick series, to know there's a fourth one coming is really lighting a fire in me. I have to disagree on your point that Riddick is a "Anti-Hero", In my opinion, he fits the "Reluctant Hero" role a lot better. He has been seen simply trying to disconnect from the rest off the universe and just live a simple hunter, gatherer type of life but repeatedly gets dragged into things by people looking for him or people looking for others and end up finding him by accident. While he doesn't the typical "morality" of a hero, there isn't a hard line on where hero's morals have to lay, they typically just have to be more moral then not and Riddick does that in spades, He doesn't hurt or kill women or children who either don't pose a threat or are not armed. He doesn't normally make the first move unless he is 100% sure that the person/ people he is going after, are after him in return and he is normally very quick to react to a threat if they are putting a woman or child in danger, he has even saved men he isn't friendly with but have done nothing to deserve dying over. Another reason I think the "anti-hero" title doesn't suit him as well, is because while he will typically try and avoid a big issue if he can, that doesn't mean its cowardly, it more points towards that he is smart enough not to take every fight just because someone is in trouble. I think that is the best skill a hero can have, there are to many hero stories where a hero will get killed, well knowing that whoever their about to fight will break them like a twig to save maybe a couple dozen people, where a smart hero will occasionally walk away from those situations even though it does leave a black mark in their mind, they could help way more then a couple dozen people even in a year if they are an active hero and not a passive one. When he does help someone though, unless he genuinely doesn't like them, most people simply need to ask for his help and if he see's a larger picture problem with their situation, he will normally help them pretty much straight away. In saying all this though, he does have selfish, narcissistic, overly violent and untrusting traits to him but there are many "true heroes" that unarguably are worse and less moral then Riddick, i think he's big thing is that he just wants to either be left alone to live and die in peace, or to find a good furian lady and create the last furian family. I hope me saying that i disagree didnt piss you off but part of why i love characters like Riddick is because you and me can have completely different ideas on how he thinks and how he navigates situations, but no matter where you fill my idea or yours into him, his actions remain the same because the motive or thoughts don't matter when he is actively trying to save a bunch of people, which honestly is probably the second best quality of a hero, Motives and reasons don't matter when all you do is help and save people in danger time and time again.

My idea back in the day when Pitch Black first came out and they were in talks about making the Alien vs Predator movies was to put riddick in there to represent the human side of AvP. Have it set in the Aliens timeline like it should have been instead of modern times, have a Platoon of Space Marines searching for Riddick because they lost contact with a previous platoon and they believe riddick was the one who took them out because they know about how crazy and capable riddick is. Only it wasnt riddick, it was the Predators that took out the marines because they landed on an alien hunting ground planet that the predators wanted to be kept secret. After the marines came into contact with an alien egg and all chaos broke out ultimately taking out the marines, only Riddick survived because maybe like in pitch black, the marines had him in custody at the time but he managed to escape and save himself. The new Marines land on the planet and recon like in the Aliens movie... but instead of finding Nute, they come across Riddick and after a brief conflict between the marines and riddick, they reach and middle ground and decide to find out what really happened, and riddick informs them of the aliens and predators and then we get Riddick as the new ripley helping the marines until he's the last survivor fighting against the predator and aliens. Easy money.....
Riddick has weaknesses, this is what makes him more interesting and believable. Wathcing him doing things, while knowing that he's vulnerable prtty much as normal human, makes him more believable. Deadpool looses his arm - lul lmao. Riddick rotating his chained arms from behind his back to set himself free just hits different when you know that he don't have some super regen powers etc. Trapped wolf can bite off his limb to survive. Riddick is ready to risk breaking both of his arms intentionaly to survive. Sheesh he even lost his consciousness after doing that.
Vin Diesel absolutely loved his role as Riddick, and he is making another movie from what i heard. he also owns the rights to Riddick now if i am not mistaken. only reason he did more Furious movies is because of Riddick.
I’m not a massive Batman fan, but I know enough about comic-book Batman to say for certain, in a fight Riddick doesn’t stand a chance. Batman is a super genius, supreme tactician, can anticipate his opponents every move. Have literally dodged bullets, fought & beaten super humans. Batman bench presses 1000lbs (it’s literally in the comics). He’s mastered every martial art known to man, is insanely fast & agile. This guy doesn’t know the character of Batman very well. There’s very few characters in DC/Marvel that can fight as well as Batman. He’s beyond peak human condition. Batman beats riddick, tactically/intellectually, physically (nevermind his gadgets). It’s just silly to compare him to Batman.
When the lady merc was going to SA Riddick without getting caught was because they were all in cryo sleep basically to interstellar travel. She would have gotten away with it if Riddick was human but bro has such an advanced limbic system/brain, forms of sedation don't work the same. You see it in the Riddick (2013) when he tanks multiple tranquilizer shots before going down. He's such a badass bro.
I think part of the reason people enjoy the anti hero so much right now is, the world is a very complex place, and a lot of times we as people have to make decisions we arent proud of, to feed our kids, or just to get by. I think people can use the anti hero to rationalize their behavior and think, yeah I may have done some bad things but when the chips are down I'm a good person who does the right thing.
15:25 They're actually space undead. Or as they call it "half dead." They're like space zombies or vampires. That's why they call the people they capture "breeders" cause they can't have children because they're undead.
I remember being in elementary school when I see “pitch black”. My childhood installed Riddick as a permanent badass. His “anti hero” is a tier of its own on top. If you ask me it’s like comedy back in the day. You bring comedy back then into today’s standard you get cancelled no matter how funny it is.
[ UK, 54, raised on 2000AD and didn't get into DC/MARVEL ] I am a fan of cinema since 'reading' French films in the 70's and 80's on UK BBC2... I see exactly what you are saying about Riddick and the whole anti-hero movement. He compromises on his own whims because he can. Intellectual is his beastliness, like a ripped Hannibal Lectur. [ SP? IDC ] I see it as a previous failing of 'Hollywood' and all the archaic laws controlling narrative and what could be shown on screen. 'Bad guys always have to lose' bollocks we call that in England ;-) Only money has changed their mind, it took a whole lot to make Blade in the first place, then a begging man to make Iron Man...
The first think that got me hooked on Riddick was the dialog from Pitch Black in the intro on the ship. That really set the tone. Dark Fury is a dope ass animated movie. Both the games were good too. Hands down for me Riddick is a great character.
Cinemavigilante: "I hate Chronicles! I hate the chosen one!" Also Cinemavigilante: "I looove Crematora!" "It's an Animal thing." "Lets play who's a better killer" Me: I knew it. He does love Chronicles, he knows all the lines just like me.
I think Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name and Riddick are pretty on par with the whole mysterious, and confident persona. Blade is worthy of consideration.
You mentioned he might have a long-lost daughter in the new movie, and I agree. I bet they are going to do a passing of the mantle thing so they can reboot the story. I hate the idea, but you know it's going to happen. If the movie does well, they will run with more sequels, and if it flops, they will drop it dead.
No, no, no. A bad azz warrior doesn't pass his ' legacy ' to a daughter. He passes it to a SON, who can grow up strong, like him. Female lead narrative is what's killing society, and Hollywood.😮
They guy who plays Johns is in Mr Inbetween and he has an amazing character and they give him spac to act and add lib. If people love Anti Heroes, then Mr Inbetween is the show for you.
Yeah. Riddick is one of my all-time favorite characters, and I wish the movie industry loved him as much as Tigon Studios did. I even read the novelization of Pitch Black and it tells about how he learned to be so fucking deadly and how he became a wanted criminal. Escape from Butcher Bay and Dark Athena are two of my favorite games, and I’m gonna have to get them on computer since the controllers for 360 just aren’t as sensitive. I don’t know how I was so good at it. lol.
A bit late to this party but I agree with you on this one, Zaffy. Riddick is one of the most underrated anti-hero characters in fiction. The best thing about him is, most of the time, he simply RESPONDS to the actions of other characters. Think about it for a second! Almost every kill he made in all three movies was done in self-defense. Meaning, he killed all those people simply because they tried to kill him, not the other way around. As far as I remember, the only two assertive kill he did is the revenge kill he did on that big Necromorph warrior and the Necromorph High Marshal since that guy killed the priest (starred by Keith David) and Kira, two of the people Riddick considered close friends or family. In addition, the movies (while told from Riddick's perspective) are structured around the biases the other characters have around him. Meaning, they kept saying that Riddick was a murderer and the worst criminal they met but the movies never explored the circumstances around Riddick. We never got to see why he did all those things, why he was locked up, and most of all, why he had such a high bounty on his head. Basically, the movies make us feel as if the whole universe was against Riddick and never explored why it was the case. In my opinion, these two details are the things that make Riddick stand out for me as an anti-hero character.
A space westen with Riddick would be sick, they should focus more on the gritty side of that universe instead of the ghost people stuff. There is a pretty cool Riddick anime too might be worth reviewing at some point.
Honestly this should have been Vin Diesel's franchise not Fast and Furious although i do like Triple XXX movies. I feel that the Riddick franchise has so potential to be on par with Marvel or Star Wars. I think the worldbuilding is great especially with the games that really make you feel like you're in that world. I'm very surprised that besides that motion comic there isn't an expanded universe with books or comics from this franchise besides the games akin to Star Wars and right now Avatar with both the Kyoshi & Yangchen duologys Hell even the James Cameron one with the same even has a bunch of comics from Dark Horse. I think having an expanded universe would have been benfit for this franchise especially learning more and getting details about past events and characters like The Necromnger's Purge of Furyans, Riddick's relationship with Gale Revas, the backstory of Antonia Chillingsworth and her relationship with Junner, Who in the Hell is really Shirah? Hell I would loved to read a young adult novel about The Lost Years with Kyra/Jack during the 5 year gap between Dark Fury and the second movie i would imagined it would be akin to Rebel Rising by Beth Revis which was about the backstory of Jyn Erso during the gap between she was pick up by Saw as a child and her in a prison cell. I would loved to see John's backstory explored more like the incident that made Hoxie so angry at Johns which was teases within the game but never elaborated further or his time as squad leader on Sol Lucian, Hell what is his relationship with his father anyway obvious Cole Hauser is a bit older now and De-aging is sometimes a bit controversial such as with Luke and other different franchises? But I would loved a book or a comic series with Johns as the Main character before the main events of the series? I would have loved to explored more with the side characters especially the ones from Butcher Bay who i find really interested like Abbot, Rust, Haley (all we know about him is that he was guard before he went to prison i would like to know what did he do that made a prisoner no longer as a guard did he do something wrong or was he against Hoxie or Abbot's regime on Butcher Bay?) Jagger Valance, and Pope Joe (I really find the character fascinating and mysterious like obvious he is a preacher but i wondered what he do that got him to be in the pit with the dwellers in the first place?) I also would like to more about the characters from Assault on Dark Athena the only one that comes across to my mind is Max Dacher who i find to be interested especially his past as a ex-marine officer. The possibles are endless!
"Three things you could have done better. First, you took the job. Second, you came light. A three-man crew for me? F*ckin insulting. Third, and this is the worst..." [Toombs reaches for the gun rack but...] Riddick continues: "Empty gun rack." Riddick with his Furian speed moves too fast for the Bounty hunter to react, he grabs and slams the other mans' head in the ship's roof. Then he throws him out the open hatch into a long drop in the snow and takes the ship stranding the team hunting him on a desolate planet.
I wouldn't say it's a chosen one but the one to end the load marshal that has a knock on effect of moving the necros on and delaying their world ending... He's not actually stopping their mission only putting it on hold.
Riddick has been one of my fav character of all time sine I first watched Pitch Black like 23-24 years ago. I like the series so much I even bothered to buy them on Blu-Ray in the digital age. Also played through the Escape from Butcher Bay game, really frikkin' good game. He is up there as one of my fav characters across media, along Kain(from Legacy of Kain video games), Darth Bane(mostly from the titular book trilogy and famous Rule of Two creator in Star Wars), Venom(comics) and Spawn(comics). //Karl Urban was also amazing as Dredd. Need more of him in that, stat. ///Btw, they retconned out the shinejob already in Chronicles of Riddick. Jack/Keira complains that she could not find one to do it anywhere. And in the game it's a power that awakens when Riddick desperately needs it. So it being a genetic thing among Furyans has been around since way back then.
I love Riddick and we really need more content… the comics are awesome, the games are incredible and are on par, if not better than the movies - gritty and grounded. You can watch the 2 hour story of both games (4 hours!!) here on TH-cam. Well worth a binge. 👌👍
I grew up on Riddick dude! First time I saw pitch black and he just resets his dislocated elbow without making a sound, so cool, especially to an 8 year old boy 😂 then a few years later Chronicles came out and I loved it just as much, idgaf what anyone and to say I still think thats a badass movie!
I played Escape From Butcher Bay, there was no "shine job", sorry to break it to you. It happened after he got his arm patched up by Pope Joe, but there was nothing done to his eyes in that moment. It just "activates" and he grabs the welding goggles off of a shelf and immediately goes into a ventilation shaft and that's when you first get to play around with the new mechanic.
I remember playing Escape From Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena back in the day; this character is so damn cool. You can find them online for free, legally, by the way. They're abandonware.
Came from the Fast a d Furious video. Ill say Chronicles of Riddick, Ine of the best videos ever made. Tip 5 or Tip 10 imo and one of the few that is better then the first movie. Watched this video so much that i can say every line word for word off thebtop of my head lol. He was so bad ass, And honestly the fact this franchise didnt get more movie bc of fast and furious makes me so mad.
I want to see the film after Chronicles, Vakko un-seating Riddick and taking over the Necro's would be mad. 'explaing' Riddick 'losing without losing' after and epic set of 'Necro rules' chess with the gorgeous 'Dame' returning also. Thandie is a dame and half!!!!!

Easy money.....
Forgotten? Riddick lives rent-free in my head.

Riddick's power is in stealth, stoicism, and in knowing the perfect timing for execution. He is basically a hunter archetype.
He hadn't a surgery. You can find what really happened in Escape From Butcher Bay.
Hell yeah. Been waiting for your take on Riddick.
I agree he was so cool in pitch black the coolest anti hero ever how he went back to save the others even though he didn’t have to
Riddick only crime is that a trailer scene wasn't in chronicles of Riddick
This video gained you a follower cause BRO I just watched all these movies back to back. I LOVE THIS
Vin Diesel absolutely loved his role as Riddick, and he is making another movie from what i heard.
he also owns the rights to Riddick now if i am not mistaken. only reason he did more Furious movies is because of Riddick.
Peter Stormare is hilarious, he never has unfunny dialogue in any project he's in
You had me up until Batman! There I draw the line. Batman all the way.....
Riddick evolved his latent eye shine in the dark pit of butch bay. Only Furian alpha males can have an eye shine.
F&F's moral is "Family"... Riddick's moral is "Grow a fuckin spine" 😂
I check other videos, and you have pretty good material. Subscribed.
thanks man
@@Cinemavigilante May I suggest a börg-cybernetic-eye for the other side of your mask?
I think part of the reason people enjoy the anti hero so much right now is, the world is a very complex place, and a lot of times we as people have to make decisions we arent proud of, to feed our kids, or just to get by. I think people can use the anti hero to rationalize their behavior and think, yeah I may have done some bad things but when the chips are down I'm a good person who does the right thing.
Holy shit who is making decisions they aren't proud of to feed their kids?? Calm down bro it's just a movie😂😂😂😂
You're not overstating Riddick at all.
15:25 They're actually space undead. Or as they call it "half dead." They're like space zombies or vampires. That's why they call the people they capture "breeders" cause they can't have children because they're undead.
Chronicles was my fav! I enjoyed the the more sci fi stuff
I say "you keep what you kill" to my buddies even to this day when I play fortnite with them XD love the Riddick trilogy
Riddick is litterally a franchise I can watch non stop without getting bored whatsoever, He is Right next to Spawn for me.
Almost 70????
Drop it down a decade. He's currently 57.
Love the way you speak your mind, bro!. Subbed
Man gouged a dudes heart out with a tea cup
No I didn't forget this guy I grew up watching him

an absolute badass, i wonder if we will ever see good Riddick movies again...
Thank you fornshowing a shot with the animated movie, moat people dont know or acknowledge it exists
Riddick! The man John Wick never heard of 😂
[ UK, 54, raised on 2000AD and didn't get into DC/MARVEL ]
I am a fan of cinema since 'reading' French films in the 70's and 80's on UK BBC2...
I see exactly what you are saying about Riddick and the whole anti-hero movement. He compromises on his own whims because he can. Intellectual is his beastliness, like a ripped Hannibal Lectur. [ SP? IDC ]
I see it as a previous failing of 'Hollywood' and all the archaic laws controlling narrative and what could be shown on screen.
'Bad guys always have to lose' bollocks we call that in England ;-)
Only money has changed their mind, it took a whole lot to make Blade in the first place, then a begging man to make Iron Man...
I recently rewatched the Riddick trilogy, he's one of my favourite movie characters, has infinite aura!
Riddick is that one players PC that makes the DM's eyes roll into the back of their head.
The first think that got me hooked on Riddick was the dialog from Pitch Black in the intro on the ship. That really set the tone. Dark Fury is a dope ass animated movie. Both the games were good too. Hands down for me Riddick is a great character.
Also is one of the VEEEERY few exeptions in witch the video game made after a movie is ACTUALY awsome!
RIDDICK FOR GALACTICK EMEROR!
Cinemavigilante: "I hate Chronicles! I hate the chosen one!"
Also Cinemavigilante: "I looove Crematora!"
"It's an Animal thing."
"Lets play who's a better killer"
Me: I knew it. He does love Chronicles, he knows all the lines just like me.
i loved everything in chronicles except the chosen one/prophecy storyline

Riddick is Inspirational for a New Type of Anti Hero Archetype. He's one of the Inspirations for my Character too.
I FUCKING LOVVVVEEEEDD Riddick. I Watch Chronicles of Riddick at least once a year
Riddick is an amazing character. and Predator vs Riddick?!?!?!? FUCK YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"I'm just thinking we need a bigger piece of bait."
I don’t know how I was so good at it. lol.
Absolutely love Riddick. The ultimate survivalist
Of course, the guy that has a clause in his contract where he cannot be defeated.
It's a little known fact that in Riddick's hour of need, a lucky star will sometimes fly overhead, granting him the power to turn into the Iron Giant.
"Three things you could have done better.
First, you took the job.
Second, you came light. A three-man crew for me? F*ckin insulting.
Third, and this is the worst..."
[Toombs reaches for the gun rack but...]
Riddick continues: "Empty gun rack."
Riddick with his Furian speed moves too fast for the Bounty hunter to react, he grabs and slams the other mans' head in the ship's roof.
Then he throws him out the open hatch into a long drop in the snow and takes the ship stranding the team hunting him on a desolate planet.
goated
Goddamn... I HATED what Vin did to Bloodshot.
Splinter Cell
Come on. This is the future secret weapon. Night Vision googles?
I COMPLETELY 1000% agree with you bro, people sleep on Riddick now days and it legit pisses me off 😂
the new Riddick movie plot will be that he has turned gay and the women are the good guys now
??
Probably. I’m pretty sure Luke was at this point. Dude kissed his sister and spent his life alone drinking green gue the rest of his life.
I wouldn't say it's a chosen one but the one to end the load marshal that has a knock on effect of moving the necros on and delaying their world ending... He's not actually stopping their mission only putting it on hold.
Riddick and Blade are my 2 favorite anti-hero.
It’s more than courage….no fear is involved.
I love Riddick and we really need more content… the comics are awesome, the games are incredible and are on par, if not better than the movies - gritty and grounded.
You can watch the 2 hour story of both games (4 hours!!) here on TH-cam. Well worth a binge. 👌👍
The hair thing, that's to show how close he can get without being noticed, he would keep it as a trophy.
I will forever remember Vin Diesel as Ridick. Pitch Black was one of my favourites as youngling
Everyone is both light and dark it's just we can only admit it when it's being perceived through a screen, ying and yang baby!
I know another character that screws with his villains, the Shadow
John wick picks up a pencil
Riddick "a pencil?" *Grabs a metal coffee cup, impales an assassin with it.
More videos like this my guy riddick videos are rare hahaha🔥🔥🔥🔥
I played Escape From Butcher Bay, there was no "shine job", sorry to break it to you. It happened after he got his arm patched up by Pope Joe, but there was nothing done to his eyes in that moment. It just "activates" and he grabs the welding goggles off of a shelf and immediately goes into a ventilation shaft and that's when you first get to play around with the new mechanic.
Fast & Furious is just Riddick's origin story before we see him on the ship in the first movie.
Good argument.
You won my subscription, good sir.

I've seen some awesome Riddick vs Predator fan art. I thought this guy was so cool I got his goggles and Ulak knives
Vin Diesel was never not cringe 😂 The level of meat glazing in this video is wild.
I remember playing Escape From Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena back in the day; this character is so damn cool.
You can find them online for free, legally, by the way. They're abandonware.
I never seen these movies lol gonna check it out, I’ll be back.
great vid gained a sub
I should not enjoy those movies, but I love them. All of them.
Based, i loved that movie as a child
Came from the Fast a d Furious video. Ill say Chronicles of Riddick, Ine of the best videos ever made. Tip 5 or Tip 10 imo and one of the few that is better then the first movie. Watched this video so much that i can say every line word for word off thebtop of my head lol. He was so bad ass, And honestly the fact this franchise didnt get more movie bc of fast and furious makes me so mad.
He's so badass, the video games are badass
I want to see the film after Chronicles, Vakko un-seating Riddick and taking over the Necro's would be mad.
'explaing' Riddick 'losing without losing' after and epic set of 'Necro rules' chess with the gorgeous 'Dame' returning also.
Thandie is a dame and half!!!!!
26:20 - You said that exact thing ;-)
Riddick is one of the best movie ever
Did you knoy the Vin Diesel agreed to apear at the end of Tokyo drift in exchange for the rights of the Riddick franchise?
