    Thanks, I'm going to give it a try. I've been driving a manual shift since 78' Back when the subaru hill assist was mechanical, it was easy to deal with. When you activated it, it stayed on UNTIL you let off the clutch. This new system lets go after 3 seconds. Pain in the butt if you ask me, I didn't' realize it could be deactivated. I wish there was a way to do it though the system menu though. Having the HA light on when the system is deactivated (which I've never seen before in my manual shift) seems counter intuitive. That is if I'm understanding your video correctly. Going to give it a shot now.

      I hope I works for you! It definitely is. I've grown to use the hill assist more these days, but back when I first made this video I definitely enjoyed driving with it off until I learned my clutch better .

      @@Don.of. It took me a few tries but I got it. I don't like that the lights on when the system is deactivated but I like the hill holder even less :) I've only got 4K miles on my 2019 Sport and this was one of the things that really bugged me. My 2016 BRZ did not have this "Feature" and I was glad. When it was mechanical it was much nicer IMHO. It involved a cable that went to the brake's master cylinder. Basically, when you were on a hill, in first gear. Foot on clutch and a foot on the brake. You would press the brake pedal hard and then off of the pedal, it would hold the brake pressure in the system like your foot was still on the brake. You could then remove your foot from the brake (still foot on the clutch) and move it to cover the gas pedal. When it came time to move, when you released the clutch, while pressing the gas, a cable moved a rod in the master brake cylinder and revealed brake pressure. So you could sit as long as you liked basically. Anyway, thanks for the vid, I'm mad it took me this long to find out :)

    I am so confused as to when it's on or off. It feels like it's on when the little light is illuminated

    • @Don.of.

      When the light is illuminated, it shouldn't. Maybe placebo?

      @@Don.of. Eh or maybe I'm just doing what I always have done before "hill assist" was invented, using the brake

    Doesn’t work for me. Hold it down, and it goes away but after I click it once immediately after hill assist button never lights up

      Its finicky. even after understanding how it work, it took me like 2 or 3 tries to get it. if it doesn't work, youll need to shut the car off too. which is rather annoying haha.

    My Automatic 2018 Impreza sedan has suddenly began turning this icon on and off at random along with the check engine light.. that does not blink. Got her brand new back then and never knew this existed until it came on a few months ago. I'll try your suggestion, like many on TH-cam, but I've yet to find one for an automatic.. only manual. Do you have some info on this issue?

    • @Don.of.
      @Don.of.  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is specific for the manual. Automatics don't have natural hill assist. Best bet is to get a scanner on it to see if there's any saved codes!

      May also be the brake switch? Did you have it replaced? Maybe it might need adjusted.

      I took it into the dealership and it had a P0300 code-Random Cylinder Misfire. The hill assist light would go on and off randomly but the check engine light stayed on-not flashing. He wasn't too concerned about the hill holder. Anyway he fixed it and I drove it for a few days then it all started up again with the lights! Took it back in yesterday and got a loaner so they could figure it out.
      Waiting to hear back!

      @@Don.of. FYI.. I did look up the icon in the manual and they call it a Hill Holder.. not assist. And it is an automatic. The check engine light is what he was concerned about but surely there must be some kind of relationship to the hill holder issue... why else would it also come on?

      What did you figure out? I also have a 2018 Impreza, mine is a hatchback sport. But same as you it suddenly came on, with check engine light, the info button i icon just says, "Hill Start Assist System Disabled" along with the icon for roads may be slippery and a - - MPH in the center. Any info you gathered would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
