I sure miss county music like this. I was 17 years old when this concert occurred and grew up with this, I’m now 56 and there will never be this kind of music again, so very sad we have no real country music anymore 😢
Vern's the uncrowned king of country in my estimation. I admire the fact that he frequently mentioned a song's writer(s), and called attention to the members of his bands during shows. Oh yeah, that voice too.
MR VERN CAN NEVER BE REPLACED THE GREATEST VOICE AND ONE OF THE BEST COUNTRY STARS AND HE TOOK A LOT OF CRAP FROM RALPH EMMORY WHO LIKED GO TO THE HEART BUT VERN VOICE COULD NOT BE MISTAKEN THE GREATEST SOUND IVAN FROM ILLINOIS.
THIS IS MUSIC PEOPLE....REAL COUNTRY MUSIC , and BY A REAL SINGER. WITH REAL TALENT.. EAT YOUR HEART OUT LMAO........OH AND TAKE NOTES, Y'ALL ''SO CALLED COUNTRY SINGERS'' GONNA NEED IT!!! ;) VERN #1 THEN & NOW
Not too many people know the piano player was legendary Jay Spell, who was blind since birth. He went on to have a prolific career recording with many of the greats of the time.
Dave Roe on Bass, one of the few people who did it backwards, he grew up in Hawaii and came to the mainland and found his calling as a Grammy winning bass player. Most folks start on the mainland and end up in Hawaii. 🤷♂️ Either way Hawaii’s loss is musics gain! 🎸
I can hear Verne now….. telling the drummer he’s all over the place and to stop pushing!!😅 Verne had a terrible relationship with drummer’s and went through dozens of them during his career 🤷♂️ 🥁
I got to know Vern around this time. Wrote and recorded some with him. May not be apparent but the guy had a great sense of humor in those days. Loved to laugh. Mike Baker is a wonder on electric guitar. If you’ll notice he uses no picks at all. Same is true of Mark Knopfler. Not unheard of but unusual.
If Vern were around to hear this he be beet red with steam coming out of his ears. For a guy that was so on pitch, to hear the wow and flutter makes a mockery of Blood Harmony. If it can't be replaced with a corrected version, take it down. He would.
At 24:46, do you have the Austin City Limits Season 11 closing from 1986? It shows different angles of the audience. During the closing credits, the audience members clapped their hands, lip-syncing to London Homesick Blues, from Season 8, Episode 6: Michael Martin Murphey/Gary P. Nunn (1983). At the end, you see Dick Peterson wearing a shirt with the Austin City Limits logo, and then, an aerial shot of the stage. The text "a production of The Southwest Texas Public Broadcasting Council (c) 1986" appear.
I have been dreaming about you always do. I am but never getting to see you at all. You can't make anything for me that doesn't mean anything for me . O Bye
I just read about 1982 when a record producer was almost killed shot and beaten by 2 men they said in court than Vern Gordon paid them 200 $ for the killing suposedly it didn't happen the 2 charged got 10 years each in jail vern never said anything about either way.
Funny you should say that. Check out the TH-cam channel called Otis Gibbs. Otis interviews Dave Roe the bass player in verns band. They talk extensively about the drummers he had.
The best voice that Nashville ignored. What a talent and voice.
You got that right!
I sure miss county music like this. I was 17 years old when this concert occurred and grew up with this, I’m now 56 and there will never be this kind of music again, so very sad we have no real country music anymore 😢
agreed
Agree...but check out Mo Pitney, he is trying to keep classic country music alive.
Vern's the uncrowned king of country in my estimation. I admire the fact that he frequently mentioned a song's writer(s), and called attention to the members of his bands during shows. Oh yeah, that voice too.
He is really very good . Love this song. Thanks
I agree with you 110%
This is an absolute gem.
Yes!!
If Vern doesn’t light your fire your wood is wet
Naw, their wood has become petrified stone.
You got that right!
This is the way country music should be . Tks

One of the Best!!!! Never will be another like Vern...... He could sing anything!!!
like i said Vern earned his nickname "The Voice" because he could harmonize with the worst of them and make them sound good
@@Mattea68 Darren you said it perfectly. His voice was harmony.
He was the best period.

An amazing performer that deserves a lot more awards
He sings my broken heart songs. One of the best who never got the recognition he deserved, WHY??
No one could ever sing like him he will always be the best to me I wish I could had meet him I sing country music to.
Ralph was a joke

I met Vern back in about 1989 and we talked a minute or two.He was a nice man. That voice of his was pure country gold
How far we have fallen!
You’ve got that right.

The piano player was a stellar musician too! He blew my mind.

One of my all time favorites, big time.
Thank you soo much.. i can't find hardly any Vern on here! this made my month!!
Vern was the best. This lead player is off the hook!
Not too many people know the piano player was legendary Jay Spell, who was blind since birth.
He went on to have a prolific career recording with many of the greats of the time.
Yes he played with Vern a long time many farm aid concerts I saw him in 85 farm aid back stage while working security
Circle is showing Austin City Limits on Saturday evenings. I just saw Vern Gosdin (for the first time).
Jern g. Great great great. Ronnie m jay s. Rest in p my good friend don ange love y'all. Ss
Happy Country music. Love it!
Very good thankyou
Great great great.......
The best singer I have known
Paul Cook on drums and
David (Rorick) Roe on bass.
Taped 10 DEC 1985.
This is real country ❤.
Legendary Dave Roe on base.
What an interesting life story he has.
From Hawaii to Nashville and all around the world 🌎 🎸
I think what made Vern such a great singer was his voice modulation. Jon Anderson has the same style
To think without Emmylou, Vern would have stayed in Georgia installing glass. That would have been a tragedy.
Great musician , I'll leave it that.
Great band!!!
Dave Roe on Bass, one of the few people who did it backwards, he grew up in Hawaii and came to the mainland and found his calling as a Grammy winning bass player.
Most folks start on the mainland and end up in Hawaii. 🤷♂️
Either way Hawaii’s loss is musics gain! 🎸
What happened to country music....cant stand the stuff they play nowadays...miss verns style...gene watson too...
If'''you''want''real''country''check'''ROGER''''ANDERSON''PURE'''''''''''CONTRY'

I saw Gene Watson several months ago in Bremen Georgia. I must say that he can still make the hair on my arms stand up!! What a set of pipes!!!❤️
You mean NASHPOP?
@@debracarrier5503 anyone else playing
There I saw Travis Tritt acoustic show there when it first opened.
I can hear Verne now….. telling the drummer he’s all over the place and to stop pushing!!😅
Verne had a terrible relationship with drummer’s and went through dozens of them during his career 🤷♂️ 🥁
Hey best of Vern love hi.m
Paul Cook on drums.RIP Paul & Vern
Do u know the man playing the bass
@@sherlebooth9612 the man on bass is the legendary Dave Roe.
Grammy winning bassist who plays stand up bass as well. 🎸

Mike Baker is a wonder on electric guitar. If you’ll notice he uses no picks at all. Same is true of Mark Knopfler. Not unheard of but unusual.
I wish Mike Baker would put some instruction videos of some of his licks seen in this video. I use a thumb pick but it gets in the way on these licks.
Lindsey Buckingham is another who doesn’t use picks.
@@Poconobuc That’s right. He’s a powerhouse for sure.
Another favorite “unknown” of mine was Frank Reckard from Emmylou Harris’ old band. I think he used picks though - but what a picker!
@@Poconobuc I’m not familiar with him. I’ll have to try and remedy this. Thanks.
The next time the phone rings I won’t answer, but I did anyway. After 38 years I still think of you. That’s wrong ya’ll😢😢😢😢
Vern married my aunt Cathy. She wrote some good songs he recorded. TILL THE END is one Cathy wrote. It was a top 10 hit
If Vern were around to hear this he be beet red with steam coming out of his ears. For a guy that was so on pitch, to hear the wow and flutter makes a mockery of Blood Harmony. If it can't be replaced with a corrected version, take it down. He would.
Baby.. oh baby!! Break my mind!!!
Actually, that's from 1986, not 1984.
He, could do that very nice guy Thanks lyt
No offense to the uploader, but I think the tape was lagging, the music is top-notch though. Vern put on a great show.
Thé. Best. Of. Best
That backup singer has a legendary mullet 😂😂
Ole Vern Looked alot Like Dale Earnhardt
Love it

Mike Baker
As good (or better) than the Possum
He wasn’t feeling his drummer
