I'm pretty sure Johei's surname is still Kuzunoha, since he is part of the Kuzunoha Clan from Kuzunoha Village, and it makes the most sense that you'd want someone from in the main family to inherit your highest title. Still works with the "Are you fit to carry the name Kuzunoha?" thing too.
First Raidou game is a lot of fun but pretty rough in a lot of ways. The second game put in massive amounts of work to improve almost every aspect, so if you end up liking this one even a little bit, you'll love the sequel. Hope you play both

@@jac1011 It's made by a lot of the same team behind the mainline titles, and it still follows an alignment system that's very similar to the mainline SMT titles (Law, Neutral, Chaos) so I'd technically say it's at least an unofficial spinoff.
I don't know if Woolie knows this, but the Kuzunoha also show up in Persona 2, so Devil Summoner does also connect to Persona in that way. Just wanted to be that guy and point it out.
I had to look at if it is possible to have any of the Raidou games getting the HD Remaster treatment like Nocturne via Unity. I thinking it would be more challenging due to hub worlds being busier than Nocturne hub world and being 1 to 1
I don't think environments being busier would affect it much. The only things actually being rendered are the characters, the backgrounds are all prerendered 2D images like the PS1 Final Fantasy games. The biggest issue I see is that, like the PS1 FFs, the backgrounds would need to be upscaled for HD if Atlus doesn't have the original files anymore, plus some might be specifically made for 4:3 and any any remaster would definitely be 16:9.

Atlus has never seen a SMT game they won't port, rerelease or remake :p There are Saturn games on 3DS, PS2 games on PC, Vita, PS3, PSP, Switch. They've remade three DS games only a few years later. All over phones too. They do the same with their other franchises too. Etrian, Radiant Historia, Alliance Alive, etc. If it makes any sense for them at all then I'd fully expect any number or older games to come back. SMT3N and P4G have only reinforced their willingness (and it's viability) to keep doing it. It's just what they do. Except Nine. That one's gone forever.
DDS DDS D-actually this is around the Shoji peak, iirc. Between this, RKvKA and DDS 1/2, I feel like he was absolutely in his element. I never played RK1 but RK2 was good, and from what I heard, it apparently improved a lot of what the original tried to introduce, so it'll be kinda nice to see what that looked like.

I can hear I'll Face Myself battle theme from P4 in the DS battle theme and horns in P3 tracks in Its a Golden show. Such good music!
Woolie constantly comparing demons to Pokemon did make me realize the major difference between demons and pokemon: Demons have actual agency in the SMT universe. When you don't come along to fuck up their day for whatever reason, demons are doing their own thing, have plot presence and purpose, and usually have their own stories to tell before you stick them in your fusion machine. Pokemon are pets that exclusively exist for player/human convenience and if they aren't a legendary don't exist beyond pokedex entries.
The major difference is that Demons in SMT and Megaten overall supercede pokemon by a good few years which is partially what inspired them in the first place

I dunno about the belief stuff. I thought all that happened was that Thor was stopped from ordering to drop the bombs on Tokyo and trigger the apocylpse in SMT 1, so the If.., Devil Summoner, and Persona timeline are just the alt timeline where the apocylpse didn't happen
You don't need to be an expert on games history to play a videogame. Also anyone watching this has the internet and can look this stuff up themselves. 40% is a fine number. Attempt at explaining the timelines. Novel all the shit in the franchise is based off of/that real bad 90s anime leads into Megami Tensei 1/2 then thats all for that timeline. SMT timeline 1 to 2 to 3/Strange Journey(it kinda weirdly floats around the time of 3) to 4 to Apocalypse (5 is somewhere in this timeline we dont know where yet, also NINE and Imagine are in it somewhere) Persona/Raido Timeline Raido vs souls army to SMT: If/Raido 1, to Persona 1 to Persona 2, timeline reset/jump, other half of Persona 2 to persona 3 (with a parallel timeline for Female MC, dead ends at Persona Q 2) to Persona 4 (Pesona Q happens halfway through persona 4 and is noncannon) to ultimate to ultimax to Persona 5 the persona 3 trinity anime or whatever it was called is the farthest thing on this branch Devil Survivor just kinda exists, Devil Survivor is a DS game in Devil Survivor 2 Soul Hackers probably leads into Digital Devil Saga no hard connections though Raido is Raido he do what he want
Imagine is between SMT I & II on the maine line. Strange Journey was meant to be SMT 4, but the devs mandated that the mainline games all take place in Tokyo, so it lost the numbering. The Summoner/Persona line diverges from the main line due to events in Souless Army (HOW is major spoilers but the events of SMT I are averted). The line diverges into just Summoner and Persona sometime between P2 and P3, where demons become solely mental/psychic contructs in the Persona line. Digital Devil Saga is a separate line from all the others, as is Survivor.
SMT 3, 4, SJ, and 5 are all their own universe and have no connection whatsoever. The only games that connect are SMT 1, nine, imagine, and 2. After that Atlus just made references. The digital devil story anime is an adaption of the first book. The games don't follow the books or the anime at all. Devil Summoner also doesn't lead into persona because Soul hackers clearly doesn't take place in the persona world. Characters do show up but it's more parellel world than a straight timeline of what leads into what. Avatar Tuner is it's own story as well. The whole thing about every game connecting is just decades of misinformed headcanon. Not even Atlus knew what they wanted to do. That's why they stopped caring about a timeline that never existed. Freaking Jesus christ is mentioned in P5. Jesus doesn't exist in MegaTen.
as for anyone who wanted to know where demons come from in SMT woolie's answer is sooorrtaa correct. its correct for persona where the "universal unconscious" of humanity created demons but for most of SMT they are created by "the great will" (god) or his avatars .

As a longstanding SMT fan, you got a lot of the lore more or less accurate. Gonna keep watching, but I hope you come to enjoy Raidou (and maybe Raidou 2) as much as I did!
Okay I might have to break this down like the timeline/review: SMT1&2 is in the same universe( in the second game God sort of destroys Earth and Humanity has a holy spaceship to go to another world) SMT:3 Nocturne is in a different dimension there are three endings law, chaos, and neutral and the law ending the the demi-fiend defeats God and decides to put the world the way it was which leads to the Persona series the chaos ending leads to Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 and SMT5 and the neutral ending leads to the spin-offs which are separate dimensions( devil Survivor,SMT nine, devil Summoner and so on) now there's a theory well not a theory but that the great will, Xiom literally created the entire Multiverse and created multiple gods who are copies of itself in each universe. It's main goal is just to make more universes that's why in each game the world mainly gets destroyed and then is recreated over and over again creating more and more universes in the process it's main goal is mainly just to create more universes that's the theory anyway.

I dunno about the belief stuff. I thought all that happened was that Thor was stopped from ordering to drop the bombs on Tokyo and trigger the apocylpse in SMT 1, so the If.., Devil Summoner, and Persona timeline are just the alt timeline where the apocylpse didn't happen

Novel all the shit in the franchise is based off of/that real bad 90s anime leads into Megami Tensei 1/2 then thats all for that timeline.
SMT timeline
1 to 2 to 3/Strange Journey(it kinda weirdly floats around the time of 3) to 4 to Apocalypse (5 is somewhere in this timeline we dont know where yet, also NINE and Imagine are in it somewhere)
Persona/Raido Timeline
Raido vs souls army to SMT: If/Raido 1, to Persona 1 to Persona 2, timeline reset/jump, other half of Persona 2 to persona 3 (with a parallel timeline for Female MC, dead ends at Persona Q 2) to Persona 4 (Pesona Q happens halfway through persona 4 and is noncannon) to ultimate to ultimax to Persona 5 the persona 3 trinity anime or whatever it was called is the farthest thing on this branch
Devil Survivor just kinda exists, Devil Survivor is a DS game in Devil Survivor 2
Soul Hackers probably leads into Digital Devil Saga no hard connections though

Imagine is between SMT I & II on the maine line.
Strange Journey was meant to be SMT 4, but the devs mandated that the mainline games all take place in Tokyo, so it lost the numbering.
The Summoner/Persona line diverges from the main line due to events in Souless Army (HOW is major spoilers but the events of SMT I are averted). The line diverges into just Summoner and Persona sometime between P2 and P3, where demons become solely mental/psychic contructs in the Persona line.
Digital Devil Saga is a separate line from all the others, as is Survivor.
SMT 3, 4, SJ, and 5 are all their own universe and have no connection whatsoever. The only games that connect are SMT 1, nine, imagine, and 2. After that Atlus just made references. The digital devil story anime is an adaption of the first book. The games don't follow the books or the anime at all.
Devil Summoner also doesn't lead into persona because Soul hackers clearly doesn't take place in the persona world. Characters do show up but it's more parellel world than a straight timeline of what leads into what. Avatar Tuner is it's own story as well. The whole thing about every game connecting is just decades of misinformed headcanon. Not even Atlus knew what they wanted to do. That's why they stopped caring about a timeline that never existed. Freaking Jesus christ is mentioned in P5. Jesus doesn't exist in MegaTen.
as for anyone who wanted to know where demons come from in SMT woolie's answer is sooorrtaa correct. its correct for persona where the "universal unconscious" of humanity created demons but for most of SMT they are created by "the great will" (god) or his avatars .
Oh man this is probably my favorite SMT game, of those I've played of course. I gotta boot up my PS3 and play it again, thank you Woolie for putting more eyes on this underrated gem!

Okay I might have to break this down like the timeline/review:
SMT1&2 is in the same universe( in the second game God sort of destroys Earth and Humanity has a holy spaceship to go to another world)
SMT:3 Nocturne is in a different dimension there are three endings law, chaos, and neutral
and the law ending the the demi-fiend defeats God and decides to put the world the way it was which leads to the Persona series
the chaos ending leads to Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 and SMT5
and the neutral ending leads to the spin-offs which are separate dimensions( devil Survivor,SMT nine, devil Summoner and so on)
now there's a theory well not a theory but that the great will, Xiom literally created the entire Multiverse and created multiple gods who are copies of itself in each universe. It's main goal is just to make more universes that's why in each game the world mainly gets destroyed and then is recreated over and over again creating more and more universes in the process it's main goal is mainly just to create more universes that's the theory anyway.
