    Just one question for next time (unless you have a video in the pipeline), would you be able to add the uk/European equivalent ETFs. That would be amazing.

    Hi Rick , What is your opinion about investing in Berkshire a and B companies? Cheers

    • @rick.austin
      @rick.austin  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, when I think of big investing companies like Berkshire, there’s one reason i don’t invest in them. Berkshire’s size makes it really difficult to repeat the 20% growth per year we’ve seen in the past. It's not their fault, they are just too big. With a market cap of $1 trillion, Berkshire would need to add another $1 trillion in value to double its stock price. The problem is, in my opinion, that there aren't that many companies out there today that are large enough to have a meaningful effect on Berkshire's total value. Buffett himself said that Berkshire's size allows for "no possibility of eye-popping performance".
      For this reason i don’t directly invest in Berkshire, although it’s a wonderful company.

      @rick.austin hey thanks for replying! I am just starting to invest and my sister also, we are following your videos! The European investment video was much easier because I could check the codes to name sure I got the right one 😁. I think I have them all now. The only thing I am struggling with is the basic investment strategy, the suggested bonds. I am using Trade Republic. By the way we are total noobs, I'd be interested in a video explaining all the basic concepts as if I were 5 years old 😁

    • @rick.austin
      @rick.austin  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Alright let me help you. First of all, forget bonds now. You don't need them now because you're still young (after 55-60 yo I would start with them).
      Feel free to comment here with the funds you found, so that I can check for you if they are correct. In Trade Republic, enter an ETF. Then scroll down right under the graph and "About" and you'll find "Share Price, Fund Size, Index, Holdings"... there you need to scroll right until you find the "Ticker". you can give me that information on the ETFs that you've found and I'll check if they are the right ones.
      Regarding the investment strategy, it really depends on your goal, experience and so on. Hit me up on my info email (info@rick-austin.com). I'll be happy to help.

    • @rick.austin
      @rick.austin  ปีที่แล้ว

      The complexity is not in looking for weird ETFs that are just going to make your portfolio riskier for nothing, it's about playing with these components to overweight one part or the other. Everything else is most likely going to play against you in the long term.
      That's why it's not like VTI. And by the way, I say clearly in the video that the other ETFs are going to have a strong overlap with VTI, being VTI a all-in-one ETF, and that it's about where to put more weight.
      I could make the portfolio as complicated as I like to show people how many ETFs I know, but I would give them terrible advice.

    Rick, you forgot to take into the account INFLATION which reduces considerably the annual return on investment and affects the time needed to achieve the 1 million dollars....
    Otherwise a good video!

    • @rick.austin
      @rick.austin  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi mate, the time to achieve the million dollar is right, the inflation acts by reducing the buying power of this million, not his absolute value!
      Meaning: you achieve the million, but because of inflation that million will have less real value than what it has today.
      So imagine now that you consider inflation, and therefore you calculate not with for example 10%, but 7% yearly return (3% inflation). After X years, in the calculation instead of achieving $1M you achieve (for example, i'm not calculating) $700,000. The 700,000 is not the real amount of money you'll have, but the current value of the million you'll have. So you'll actually have $1M in your account, but it will have the same buying power of $700,000 today.
      So summarized: considering inflation helps you see the buying power of your future value based on current dollar power, not the absolute amount of dollars. You'll have $1,000,000, but it will be worth less than $1M today because of inflation ;)
      Hope it helps

    • @rick.austin
      @rick.austin  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey man, glad to hear that!
      So VOO is the best foundational ETF. If you're a beginner, my suggestion would be to start with 100% on it. Give yourself some time to taste (and test) the market. Then after gaining some experience you can complement with QQQ or VGT (not necessarily both, they are both growth etfs), but without exceeding, say, 20-30%, because growth is also included in VOO.
      Growth can then be complemented with a good income based ETF like SCHD.

      Hey there, I would have VUAA or VUAG for the S&P500, the some international exposure with a world ETF (like EUNL or even VHYL that gives you also focus on Value), then EQQQ for growth, Invesco USML for small cap, SPY4 for mid cap. But again, this is already in my opinion a too complicated portfolio, keep it simple!

    • @rick.austin
      @rick.austin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kainetibbles5399 that'a a really good question. I'm going to tell you this: I'm 35 and I'm still away from bonds. The reason why I do it is because I still have 30 years in front of me where i'm able to work, recover from any loss, and I know that long term stocks always win against bonds. I will start adding them later on, maybe when i'm 45, and probably heavily so that I can quickly get to a decent percentage. With 22 I'd tell you to just stay 100% in stocks (p.s. i'm not a financial advisor, this is my opinion only)

      @@rick.austin I think your very correct and doing same as me. Being young and healthy and able to work there’s no need to be in them as it’s about gaining.
