The intro games we had were an amazing start to understanding a complex system as a complete newbie and still loving it almost 3 years later! Great video
"two ears, two eyes, one mouth" speak for yourself, I can talk out my arse and smell time! Great video as always, your passion for gaming has always come through when I saw you doing intros and demos without taking away from the onboarding. I've seen you build 5 communities from scratch for 3 different games (infin x3, mally and DZC) and they've always been well organised and attended.
Well, thanks, man. Really appreciate that and your support in making those communities what they were. Your enthusiasm and input was always welcome and central to them.
So I've been percolating on this video for a bit, because as we've talked about, it's all about being ready with the ability to run demos. My pressing question is around the game I'm actively working to demo and bring folks into: Warmachine. It has a storied history, and recently that history is lol not good. So how does one approach getting people to play a game that actually has a somewhat to actually explicit poor reputation, because or the previous company's business practices? How do you deal with the distrust?
This was really cool to see! Thanks again for all the input. Currently assembling and photoshopping my list sheets for my two demo forces. Sadly I'll have to ignore the advice about not using my good army for demos. Since I really only have the two. So! 150 point O-12 vs Yu Jing it is! The input to take out all the abilities except Mimetism was good to know. One question prompted by the comment about not including the cutter, do you think it's best to steer clear of including anything REALLY scary for a demo list? The O-12 action pack has two big power armor guys in it. And it felt cool to include one, but I'm not sure if the Mim -6, 2 wound, 4 ARM, BS 14 HMG is a bit uhh... Much? For the context of a demo.
You need the Hydra, but IMHO if its not super complicated - EG just a bigger and better and if its a staple of the army might not be terrible? Like imagine doing an invincible army without any HI HMG dudes!
You can include it, BUT I would probably drop the MIM on it. As I wouldn't include hacking, ammo types etc that could chew through the armour, you'll have to rely on weight of fire to bring the big boy down. So, the mim as well will likely be too much. If you see what I mean?
I would be really interested in which profiles you use for the demo games. I feel like there is not a lot of identity left after removing most skills/equipment. Maybe that deosn't really matter? I'm not disagreeing with the removal anyway - just looking for inspiration since I have some demo games coming up.
To an extent the profiles don't matter in the first few games, nor does the flavour. It's more important that players get to grips with the core concepts of "this is an order, this is shooting" and "all of this happens at once", than they get swamped with choices around those concepts. This video (and the three after) cover more detail on how I teach Infinity, this should give you some insight on my method. :) th-cam.com/video/G4bdI5gy8mo/w-d-xo.html
I had an iffy experience with my Infinity demo back in 2019 in that it was at Gen Con and there was a nearby tournament for something where people got loud. So it was hard to hear. But my brother and I went to the demo with our already purchased Operation Red Veil and Cold Front. Still fun and we were sold but we left it with a lot of questions because it sounded like we got conflicting info from the demoer on our side on available actions and counter options
Demo-ers might deliberately leave out some rules to avoid overload during the short period of time but shouldn't give wrong information. EG hacking in infinity either none or limit to something like blackout but say 'in the full game you can hack robots to freeze them or cut off their communications' but the demo is focused on the main thing which for infinty would be the dice mechanic, orders, and ARO system in my opinion
@@OldManRogers I think it had a bit to do with the noise and possibly not fully hearing a question. But as I recall one of us had asked about ARO's and line of site when approaching an objective. Got told they could do it(I assume mostly heard "can I just move up and use it?") and the other person blasted that trooper. Because they asked "hey can I react to that?" Think if they had the confirmation that interacting could trigger the ARO they would have just fired over taking fire. But after words mentioned they had been told they would be fine so they were confused when they got destroyed. It could also have been that with cover and range the odds were not in the reactions favor so they thought it was an ok risk. It didn't put either of us off but we have been slow getting into it but not the games fault and we lived in different countries at the time. Don't blame anyone or anything was most likely a misunderstanding.
@@RealGyouza Yeah environment like that can detract from the experience, sounds like a bit of miscommunication. I hope you managed to get into it, infinity is a bit of a monolith at first but once you get the main concept everything else is just a spin on that
@@OldManRogers Actually have not, we have been getting back to it lately though. Working on bases for my mostly done Nomads then on to some Haqq. I might just be cursed though. Told myself I would learn the rules, cracked the book and started reading. Next day N5 was announced. Not letting that stop me now though!
@@RealGyouza i did a N2 and N3 (that is to hydra for making a community to join!) and attended 1 N4 tournament at the start of the edition i think. But hopefully get some more games in at n5

Thanks, man. It's been amazing to see you get your own newbies in, too. You're rocking it!

This one, as you're a patreon, I decided to answer in video form. You'll find your answer waiting for you on Patreon... now! GOGOGOGO!
I really do appreciate this kind of content hydra. Thanks for helping boost the community beyond even your own personal one.
You're most welcome. If I can support others finding this hobby and growing a community, then that sounds like a good thing to me.
Of course I had a game night / demo for Aristeia right on the Premiere XD
Haha of course

@@OldManRogers That's fair! I'll try not to fret about it too much before I've managed to even run a demo.

Yup! Got to bring the flavour.
Don't stress it. Remember, this is a game. It's not an exam of your validity as a human being. ;)
