Not really, as a breton you will retire mid game to live in Skingrad and eat sweetrolls for the rest of your life, not worth if you are playing to finish the story
The Breton boys are Tamriel’s Beatles. They started a new genre, HighRock and a new music generation, Brets. Kids walking around in farmer’s clothes, bringing with them a culture of extremely overpriced wines and illusion magic parties.
So I bought this song on Bandcamp Cause I thought that now’s the time With a mind full of music I decided to retire I could die for Young Scrolls' shitposts I could live outside his door I could hear the album anywhere Brother, please, may I have some more?

This has to be satire, it's perfect... r/BornInTheWrongGeneration. If this is not satire. A shit ton of people on the Internet have the 100% exact same opinion. To the degree you comment is unorinignal and stale becouse so many people say the exact same thing. You think you are better and special becouse of, and talk about, the mix of your tastes and age compared to let's say, class mates probiably, and you therefore also not-knowingly try to appeal to other people's opinion and nostalgia to get compliments that boosts ego not realising that's what you are doing. I know you like it, but that's becouse a lot of people like it. I was once the same as you until I realised I'm not so special or better then anybody else becouse I'm 13 and I like this stuff. Now I'm 16 and I know like everyone I'm normal. It's the kind of mindset those pompous emos and therians and stuff have, you know, those idiot version furries without the fursuit who think they are actually a real animals trapped in a human body. They think they all are so different, same goes for emos like I talked about, kind of a "nobody understands me, everyone is so normal and I'm special" with a hint of superiority. If you spend enough time on the Internet long enough or study psychology (they are the same thing Basicly) you come to realise your not mutch different then anyone else and everyone has their specialities that make people who they are and make them better at certain things and worse then others. You just didn't care about what other people liked and chose to like and listen to and do what you like, and that's great and all, but that's not a rare or superior thing to do, and kinda a dick thing to boast about and it's a little pompous.
There is something quite beautiful about the juxtaposistion of the slightly sombre, nostalgic feel of the music with the uplifting nature of the lyrics. This man has seen some things, been through some shit. But in the end he found his one true love, the sweetroll.
After the success of their debut "Breton Boys" they toured entire Tamriel, winning the hearts of the young Breton girls in the rovinces. In Elsweyr they were introduced to Moon Sugar and eventually became Skooma addicts which led to the break up of the band after a series of sex orgies and drug scandals - some say the Black Horse exaggerated the scope of the orgies, some see the Thalmor at fault whilst die-hard fans denied any critique (though some said the older works of the band were better). It wasn't until years later that the singer cleared things up in his morandum published after his suicide via a overdose of Skooma and Sleeping Tree Sap, in which he confirms that he had slept with at least 50 of his fan girls after casting a highly soothing and submissive spell on them.
By the 9 divines! I can't even comprehend what happened to them at the time! I was devastated to hear the news that Tamriel's best boy band in history disbanded. Every era has it's own wonders, and damn right they were one of them. Say, they remind me of another certain boy band named 'Beetle juice'. Eh, nevertheless.... Rest in peace...
@@wigsnatcher2134 yes, beetles juice were truly ahead of their time, and introduced tamriel to synth-pop-punk metal played with enchanted fluted and a wheel of cheese. Needles to say sheogorath claimed that it was he who gave them the idea. Modern tamriel music really sucks, with bands like "thalmor and the Thot", "Justinus Werebiber" and "xXSoundCloudRulerXx"
wokebloke There’s still some really interesting sounds if you know where to look. Take the so called “bardic movement” emerging under Talsgar the Wanderer, for instance - a total departure from the arena-centric status quo set by the Breton Boys or the Cornerclub Skooma culture promulgated by Keytargonian’s fans. Then there’s the trailblazing Mikael of Whiterun subverting conventional Tamriellic prudish tastes by singing songs which convey his arrogant and swaggering pursuit of women and pleasure, giving voice to the youth’s more worldly preferences following their abandonment of Talos. Breton Boys are great, but not all great music was made back in in the 420s.
I’m playing Oblivion and am actually at Skingrad right now when I saw this recommended in my feed. A nostalgic song with a touch of sadness knowing Ralph passed. RIP to an Oblivion essential. ❤️
I love how Young Scrolls expresses the feeling of trying drug for the first time and discovering a sense of hapiness you couldn't have experienced before, something that erases anything else
"Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll?" I get it now. The Breton Boys were such a hit that everyone suddenly needed to have Salmo's sweetrolls, even if it meant steeling them. The guards had to deal with so many stolen sweetrolls that they started throwing that line out there whenever someone approached them for help.
It is rumored that Salmo's bakery now called The Dancing Breton because of a legend of an old Breton male that always dancing in front of the store every morning.
The effect of good food for a person who had a hard day at work or just a bad day since morning has so much more impact than most of us realize. It's that one saving grace that makes you get back on your feet and carry on the remaining tasks that you gotta do. now I wanna get some sweet rolls lol
People talk about Adoring Fan's Star, but for me, Breton Boys were my soundtrack for the 4th Era. It's a shame they had to get a replacement guitarist, even though he's really good. RIP Theranis
Man sometimes I wish he didn't overdose on moon sugar it would've been so awesome to here his original performances and in the In the biomusicmentary boys of highrock it would've been so cool to hear what were his inspirations.
Look, Theranis was _good,_ but Guitargonian (formerly Keytargonian, formerly Plays-In-Band) is objectively a better player both in regard to technical aptitude and musical creativity. Theranis was the right Imperial for the right time, but a little Hist sap was what the band needed to evolve from just another tavern band into the stadium giants they were at their peak. Even now in their undead form they sound splendid, even if their heavier direction since “Sundas With Serana” isn’t for everyone. Personally I think their sound is ethereally haunting nowadays, and well worth the risk of contracting vampirism to see them live. You haven’t lived until you’ve witnessed Jauffre put his thu’um lessons with the Last Dragonborn to good use by using the one shout he was able to master to augment his voice and summon forth vocal tones so powerful and clear that just for a moment you could swear Martin Septim was standing right next to him, with Talos himself on his other side.
I went to this show! I actually got to go back stage and meet the band after and my god these guys are amazing! None of them mentioned money or skooma just men tryna make good soulful music, man the 3rd Era was fucking lit
Elder Scrolls VI, but you have a Dwemer Artifact that pumps these bad boys out while you're walking along. There is no soundtrack but youngscrolls on repeat. Do it Godd.
there's something so simultaneously joyous and melancholy about the refrain, it really fucking nails something and i'm not entirely sure what. that it's sung by a bald old dude is also perfect.
Young scrolls please dont ever stop making such brilliant masterpieces. This is what I've subscribed to The Cyrodiil Bops for, the best music of the 30's of 3E
Ah yes, I remember it well. They were the early days of the fourth era you see. The septim bloodline and the amulet of kings were gone, and people were looking for something to believe in, something to belong to. Jauffre had been Grandmaster of the Blades, before founding the Breton Boys, you know? Yes. I suspect even in his music he sought to serve the empire. Kids nowadays think this kind of music is old. They listen to modern songs like Ragnar the Red, that have no reason to them, and scorn at the 'old songs'. But they fail to understand the meaning woven into the sound. Hold guards mock you, asking if someone stole your sweetroll, because they don't mean what that meant to us. Sweetrolls isn't just a song about sweetrolls. Perhaps you just had to be there, when the Oblivion gates were opening, and Mehrunes Dagon waddled his way through the streets of the Imperial City. Back in those days, we all wanted some of Salmo's Sweetrolls. Maybe you just had to be there for yourself...
Ah the early 4th era, 3:40 the world wad recovering from the oblivion crisis, and the loss of the Septim bloodline. But the Breton Boys kept us in good cheer and optimistic for the years to come
I was always more of fan of the rolling soul gems my self but I got to admit this song is still great and shows why this band was at the Center of the Breton invasion in the 3rd era, honestly I don’t think we will ever experience another golden age of music like that anytime soon.
Or crap; that’s all anyone plays today. Orc rap is nothing more than a bunch of orcs talking about doing skooma and burning down Kvatch whenever a guard kills one of them in self defense while trying to do an arrest.
He can eat sweetrolls all his life, but if that's all he eats, it'll be a short one. I mean, like Tamriel really needs another washed up entertainer! First Crassius Curo rips off an ancient story passed down through ancient tradition and publishes it as his own work. Then Tarvus Beleth has to go and get sick just before his stand out role in *The Horrors of Castle Xyr* and they replace him with a crap actor who can't even remember his lines. He was such a bad actor, I don't blame that audience member attacking him mid-play for it. Then Marcel Maurard has to go and make the entire Tamriellic acting world look bad by being a whinging layabout, loitering, and begging people for work. Then Salomon Geonette goes and upsets his fans by promising a symphony and never delivering. And then Thaedil has to go and be super insecure all the time, despite her obvious skill as a genuinely good juggler. And then The Grey Prince has to go and *purposely lose an arena match?* I mean, seriously! What was that all about? I was in the audience for that one, and I have no clue what happened. It's almost like he wanted to die. And nowadays, I'm hearing rumors that there's a psycho up in Skyrim giving jesters a bad name as well. It's not like Skyrim's already butchered the entertainment world to death. Their so called "bards" just go hunting for antique instruments in crypts all the time. What a joke! I mean, I've been a fan of the Breton Boys since 3E427. Sure, their style has changed over time, but they're still committed to their craft. And even though they've gone more mainstream over the past couple of albums, they're still legitimately good. I'm just worried about this sweets-based nihilistic attitude they seemed to have developed. Yeah, it's only sweetrolls now. But before you know it they'll be popping up to Uncle Sweetshare's for some "innocent" moonsugar fix, and next thing you know they'll wind up dead of an overdose in some Bravil skooma den.
I basically scoured the games for every reference to entertainers I could think of. Made me realize there aren't that many and that the games could benefit from expanding the world to show more of Tamriel's entertainment culture. Like if there was a Dark Brotherhood quest where you had to infiltrate a parade to get close to a mark, or something.
I hope people who were too young for Oblivion when it first came out get around to playing it, and when they do they're in for a treat when they look up the game on youtube. Fantastic to see people still making Oblivion content
I’ve been seeing a lot of debate lately about whether Theranis, the original guitarist of the Breton Boys, would have fit this song and the band as a whole better had he not been let go right before the Breton Boys hit the studio to record the now legendary “All My Life” album that catapulted them to stardom. What people seem to ignore is that by that point Theranis’ Skooma addiction had reached its worst point. He could barely stay conscious for a show, and when he did manage to keep himself together, he just didn’t perform like he did when the band started. He forgot the most important lead parts for the songs people wanted to hear the most. He was known to consistently flub the intro to “Kvatch Me If You Can” almost every night, and if you can’t nail a guitar intro solo _you wrote_ then you’re a lost cause. Honestly, I have to disagree, I hear that Theranis has been working on a new album that’s being produced by Azura herself and it features Lucien Lechance on the title track “Straight Outta Cyrodiil”
@@BretonTheif2091 Oh please, that project’s been “in the works” for _years_ now, but there hasn’t been a single peep of actual music to come out of it yet. Theranis barely touches his guitar anymore, since he can’t use it to get more skooma. Have you seen him recently? He looks like a goblin! Besides, Lechance is VERY picky about his collabs.
Pff, It could be black screen with "The Elder Scrolls VI" in comic sans and I would still have a boner. But your right about the good quality of Young Scrolls records.

Nothing puts hair on a Breton boy's chest like a damn fine sweet roll
Oh man I remember catching these guys in Skingrad back in '85
Brah, I caught them in Skingrad in ‘85, I was the guy in the mosh pit passing around the 3ft Skooma Pipe
I saw em at High Hrothgar music festival back in 85 to, and Adoring Fan play his hit Star and everyone did the dance
I was a tad late to the party, in about ‘91 I was in a record store, saw them on the shelf, pop the sucker in; immediately fell in love with the band.
They opened for Nine Divines in Kvatch in the spring of '84. I was there.

BY AZURA BY AZURA BY AZURA, what a masterpiece
Andrew Vertical Dangler Lowery i cant believe is you!
Ahhh damn, such talented folks. May the divines have mercy on their poor souls..

Thanks you, friend. Now I got what this joke means and now these guardians annoy me more.
It is rumored that Salmo's bakery now called The Dancing Breton because of a legend of an old Breton male that always dancing in front of the store every morning.

2:37 guitar solo gives you chills
Ah the early 4th era, 3:40 the world wad recovering from the oblivion crisis, and the loss of the Septim bloodline. But the Breton Boys kept us in good cheer and optimistic for the years to come
The music composition in this song is absolutely amazing! Please make a Breton Boys Album!!

youve traped my soul
oh wait wrong song

Devynn Hageman good lore
I basically scoured the games for every reference to entertainers I could think of. Made me realize there aren't that many and that the games could benefit from expanding the world to show more of Tamriel's entertainment culture. Like if there was a Dark Brotherhood quest where you had to infiltrate a parade to get close to a mark, or something.
This reminds me of my favorite Mister Torgue High-Five Flexington quote from B2. Pure fucking gold. I laughed and cried.
I love the fact that Jauffre plays bass on a bassless song.
So sad that the Breton boys broke up after the oblivion crisis truly underrated musicians
