Hey Chris, I just wanted to know if it is safe for me to open my PC and try remove a virus even if the virus infected my PC fan and shut it off causing it to over heat a lot and also make very strange noises that have started to get progressively worse over a few weeks. I only just realised now that my PCs decreasing slow performance was because of a virus. I really want to remove this virus without professionals charging me $100s but I think it might be too late since the pc sounds damaged. I also noticed a folder on my desktop named DX and when i opened it, there was a lot of other zipped and locked folders and files called strange things. What do you think?
I also wonder how I even managed to get this virus (if it is a virus) because I always use virus protections and never go on shady websites, I never open strange emails and I haven't downloaded anything but I really need to know how I manage to get the virus so I can make sure it doesn't keep coming back
This was a blast from the past! I used to use this back in the Vista era. It can be a resource hog if you go with the super graphic skins but a minimalist skin is pretty light on resources.
I remember using Rainmeter around 2003-2005. I liked how I could see my CPU, RAM, hard disk usage and other stuff on the desktop. I also used some replacement for the default Windows Shell, probably LiteStep. Great video Chris!
Ah, Rainmeter. I remember I had a fully-customized Mass Effect Rainmeter skin I used on Windows 7 for years. I even tried my hand at writing my own skins once, but I lacked the artistic talent necessary to make them look great. Great to see Rainmeter is still soldiering on!
Gosh, this was a trip down memory lane. I kinda wish some of the KDE plasmoids were as good-looking as this. I forgot i was looking for a good audio visualizer on KDE.
Haven't seen anyone cover rainmeter in a while. I use it to display system stats, drive usage and the time/date on my media system. I combine items from about for skins, some I am looking to change out.
I remember using a layers skin that would let you put different skins/elements even images with transparency on different layers. I'd use it with a second version of my wallpaper to hide the visualizer for the music behind parts of the wallpaper. For example it can go partially behind a mountain in your wallpaper if you like.
@Aestreax I give zero fs if u care or not we all have the choice to be ignorant. But please don't force or ignorance on the rest of us especially when someone's making a joke even if it makes u look dumb.
Hi, Chris. I was interested in your Lin+Win desktop implementation. Tell me what to read to repeat this experience for yourself. Which video cards are better to use - I suspect AMD?
i have this thing called VisBubble that's a graphical analyzer for sound, can be bars, or round, Audio Changer that's an icon that allows you to switch audio output sources with a click, and the volume with the scroll wheel, and Transparent Taskbar, that makes the taskbar completely transparent, or blurry-transparent... the other ones i got are pretty generic...
I like NIRCMD for muting/setting the volume to a fixed level and I combine it using Autohotkey across a group of machines. There still doesn't seem to be a built-in way
I used to use a program called AstonShell and I had it dialled in with drop down menus and an interactive wallpaper that I thought was really cool then after a couple of PC's I went to get it back and it's gone! I found Rainmeter as an alternative and I still haven't learned how to use it yet, which is what brought me here. I'm kind of aware of what it can do I just haven't worked out how to do it all yet or sat down and tried to figure it out! I'm still rocking the basic system, clock and disk space skins. I did manage to update the disks for all my disks but I yearn for something a bit better looking. Anyway thanks for the video, it kind of inspires me to set something up.
Titus, you rock, i have been using sonder skin for a while now. i tweak it to my liking. some skins can be memory hogs. try it and uninstall if you don't like any.
Rainmeter is getting a bit dated now, but I still use it to out a Google search box on my desktop. One major limitation that annoys me is the inability to drag files to folders in Rainmeter docks. Plain old Windows desktop folders are more useful!
I know you’re not a big fan of macOS, but do you know of something relatively similar for macOS? I know you can do very minor changes to the dock etc. via the defaults command in terminal… but was thinking of more modifications/customisation. To be honest, I actually like most of the look/feel of macOS but there are some small things I would like to customize/remove. Thank you.
JaxCore is a fantastic suite of skins for Rainmeter. It's got custom audio mixers, audio flyouts, screensavers & start menu (tho it's a bit buggy in my experience) with more stuff I've probably never even touched haha
If ever the startmenu isn't fixed yet when we are forced to go to windows 11, I will then consider using rain meter to do what I use the windows 10 startmenu to do.i usedit before in the past to try it out.i think I will stick to the honey comb grid skin to launch my different applications and emulators. Hope Linux gaming gets to where I would be comfortable using it as my main system.since I use my PC just for gaming....
I would remove the taskbar (I use flow launcher to launch apps), but I want to keep the system tray and clock etc. I still want to remove the other stuff though, Any way to accomplish anything like this?
idk if its just me but windows 11 actually feels to have a bit of jitter overall with its desktop animations ngl tbh only something like hyprland has super smooth animations
Is there any way to enable aero effects on window titles and borders in windows 10/11? i know there was a tool called aeroglass but it only works in older versions
How does someone have several clocks? I have teams working in Portugal, Denmark, India, Shanghai and the Philippines. Does rainmeter only support the desktop display of the local time?
If you have two towers you can buy a KVM switch for less than 20 USD. No need for a VM. But, ofcourse a normal citizen wouldn't have two or more towers so, kinda irrelevant.
I've had Rainmeter running on my Windows for like 5 years and I truly enjoy it's rich features and good looks! Hey so I know I'm off topic but can you do a video or give some advice for a good video editor in Linux Mint 21? I know about kdenLive but I also have windows lappy 💻 that I can run DaVinci but and truly unfamiliar with both and I keep hearing DaVinci Resolve is so much better BUT it also runs my laptop's fans at full blast while trying to edit (still pretty unfamiliar using it)....any help would be appreciated. 😔
I have dabbled in Rainmeter a bit. But my widget engine of choice is XWidget, mainly because the widgets I develop have code to enhance their function and XWidget uses JavaScript for that; Rainmeter can use Lua, but I don't know that, so I stick to the language I know. When I was dabbling with Rainmeter, I chatted to some of the other developers, and they hated Rainmeter components being called widgets, "They're not Widgets, they are Skins!" 😁Ooops…
I been curious about things like this for years but, how many resources do they eat ? Makeing your windows as lite as possible and then installing things like this doesnt really sound cool, i may be wrong ...

Want to do this in Linux? Try Conky

im pretty sure jaxcore has that functionality with its widgets that might be what you're thinking of.

Hi, Chris. I was interested in your Lin+Win desktop implementation. Tell me what to read to repeat this experience for yourself. Which video cards are better to use - I suspect AMD?
You should take a look at droptop four to reach a similar experience of your Linux environment
I'll check it out I did a video about conky, but it is pretty dated at this point.
@@ChrisTitusTech Sorry, I meant on windows to make something similar to your clean Linux environment

@Chris When you are doing your gpu pass through to Windows. Are you able to have dual screen when in Windows?
This is perfect. I looked at Rainmeter a while back, and it sent me into EGO (eyes glazed over).

Can you configure RainMeter to hide groups of icons/folder shortcuts like Fences?
question: does this has any kind of cool customizable bar tho like polybar?
this reminds me to LiteStep , was a program where you can replace the entire explorer.exe with that soft and make windows like Linux if you want.
dont worry buddy im going to be releasing a full blown customized windows in a year or two
