Interesting because the video description indicates he's teaching something. I enjoyed the video and am going to look into this coil for myself. But to answer your question, smaller coils have higher sensitivity to smaller targets but with that sensitivity to small targets, you lose depth. Larger coils require a large eddy current to detect a target, but if you feed that much of an electromagnetic field into the ground, you'll will not be able to distinguish between targets and ground noise because every conductive pebble or pocket in that ground will be radiating eddy currents which makes ground balancing impossible if the equipment can't handle that coil size and feedback.
