You cant go back in time and that train has probably left the station for good on the days of Nebraska being a national power again. Nebraska will probably only be a mediocre team for the foreseeable future at the very least.
Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and Texas A&M should have never left the Big 12 and stood up to texas and their greed rather than running away. If so, the Big 12 never would have lost Oklahoma and texas... and if texas decided to leave like the other 4 did, the conference could have much easier replaced a single program, rather than 4 programs with program of lower level status, and still would have been strong and would have had a good enough product to negotiate higher tv rights for everyone. Back then... the only thing Nebraska had to do was win the weaker north division, win the conference championships and you would be in the playoffs every year. Cupcake path to the playoffs every year for a team in the north division of the Big 12.
Nebraska brought the culture of mediocrity upon themselves. Get use to it. Its been waaaaay to many seasons since leaving the Big 12 now to think it is a short term problem.

Most people do not understand the purpose of the rule against "off campus" scouting. The rule was enacted to keep a level playing field for all teams in a league whether it is the Big Ten, SEC or Pac 12. in the Big Ten only the big programs (OSU, Mich and possibly Penn st.) would be tempted to do "off campus" scouting. The Northwesterns, Purdues and Indianas of the Big Ten do not do "off campus" scouting. "Scouting" here is not just watching the game, rather it the hard work of "sign stealing": attending 6 or so OSU games, videotaping OSU's 3 different sign signalers, and use of UM computers to synthesize all the info. Is this what college football has become? The NCAA did not know about today's technology but they were wise when in the 1990s they adopted the rule against "off campus" scouting.

Not to argue the point but "if" what Michigan is accused of is all true....this goes way beyond simple sign stealing. Yes I am a Husker Fan however I am not so narrow minded to think buffoonery doesn't go on in every locker room or Coaches Office....that being said bottom line is....the NCAA will do nothing about this, the Big 10 will NOT DARE DISCIPLINE MICHIGAN except to maybe suspend Harbaugh for some games....trust me on this they are not going to shoot their own foot to keep Michigan out of the National Limelight and play offs....Ohio St. Still has something to say about who goes where also but even so....if Michigan loses to OSU seriously how far will they fall....not far enough to knock them out of the playoffs I promise you.....the Big 10 is a very staunch bunch of crusty old farts who give Michigan and Ohio St. EVERY BREAK they can get away with because they are "the very backbone" of the Big 10....everybody else is just fodder for the biggest cannons period....Penn St. Nebraska and the rest will never get equal treatment until they re vamp the leadership of the conference. Now that USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington are set to join there will be a big shift of power and in fighting for control of who gets what behind the scenes no matter what outsiders tell you, it's gonna happen ! Who comes out on top is yet to be determined but the haves are far outnumbered by the middle of the road teams once the West Coast gets involved....the bottom feeders will fall farther to the bottom and the blue bloods will battle for everything else.
