The uniques currently in the game are all tied to low tier base items, so quite a lot are meant to be used by lower levels and certainly not into maps. Also, uniques are not meant to be inherently better than yellow items. Unless your build is enabled by the ..."unique" mods on them, they are typically much worse than a very well rolled yellow.
As a ex-warrior, I would suggest using the cultist hammer as soon as you can and use it till the end. You can pretty much clear entire rooms with the right support gems to mace strikes

Rarity on armor isn’t a stat loss for anyone who understand what stats they flat out don’t need, a lot of builds can completely ignore one stat or another, stun, life, whatever it is, so it’s easy to fit rarity on your build if you’re not trying to have every stat type ever on your armor, where strong players are Stat stacking on their gear, which means they are inherently using less stat types. The more fair thing to do, in terms of not having to cycle failed roles until you get a good rarity gear piece, the player should gain 1% increased rarity per character leave starting at 1. Pretty simple clean way to give it to everyone. On your map sustain note, I generally don’t feel like I get map drops, let alone higher tier ones until I’m at at least 215% map drop chance. Some of that can come from your tree but that feels like the soft cap for map sustain, you absolutely have to juice your higher tier maps as much as you can in hopes of map sustain at tier 12+
Difference between melee and caster classes in poe2 currently, I only really have to focus on a fight for casters when it’s boss time - then the bosses are doubly as hard on melee. Melee classes, every fight has me hyper focussed on surviving and bosses take way too long (realise I haven’t been breathing and just dodge rolling for 5 minutes). This has to shift to enable gamers playing melee to have the power fantasy and the intensity of bosses without feeling it’s unfair.
To my knowledge uniques in PoE and PoE2 are designed to have "tiers". There are low tier throwaway uniques that might help someone leveling for a bit but do nothing for you beyond that. Then there are mid-tier uniques that have special properties that might enable and be a cornerstone for certain esoteric builds through their mechanics. And then there are 'chase' uniques that are either a very rare world drop or a pinnacle boss drop that are best-in-slot depending on class and build you're running. You will not find a Diablo style "8000% bonus damage" affixes on any uniques. Uniques in PoE offer power because of their special mechanics that they only have access to and even then they won't automatically empower all possible builds for a class. It's up to the player to figure out how to use them.
I would be very shocked if on death effects are removed. I saw a few clips where people killed the Breach boss and then were slammed to death by his purple arms. I bet that's what they're trying to fix.
if you have other characters and ur not leveling ur new one with gear from them its suffering… fastest way is to just level any class as monk ice strike with that stat stacking staff.
I love the slower pace of Warrior. Problem is that the tradeoff is supposed to be survivability and there isn't any.... I don't wanna play "Buurrrr melee go fast!". If I wanted that I can either go play Diablo 4 or play Monk.
As someone that is a Warrior and was using one hand mace and shield for most of it i know it was not meta but it was fun with me. Also i have friends so playing tank was my role. And now in end game i am running totems and its fine it again is not meta but fun all the same.
I remember literally the first diablo game, had a lot of insane uniques. So many good ones. Interestingly enough it was probably the best arpg ever, in terms of uniques. like wtf ?
I didnt focus on armor break or Skullcrusher as a warrior or totems or warcries. I focused on AoE and attack speeds sonce dual wielding 2 handers is slow af. But yes, the warrior feels like it was the 1st character made as he has the lowest number of skills and they dont really have synergy with each other.
Uniques are not legendaries. They're uniques. The point of them is to be unique. There are strong uniques, weak uniques, joke uniques, generically powerful uniques, and build defining uniques. But unfortunately they're weighted on a similar scale as everything else (think currency, etc), so the weak uniques are what you see 99% of the time. It feels bad when you first realize that, but once you realize that you will only ever find soon-to-be chance shards, then when you find something good it's amazing. Finding a Mageblood in a T7 map on my first character of the league just after it was added to the game is a standout memory in my 30 year history of videogames. Scourge League will always have a special place in my heart.
i leveled a warrior first, but switched to merc. the merc is significantly funner to play, but i did get the cast on block shield from olroth and hope to try a build with it soon, but as you said it's not really the warrior as much as it is the mace. i was using perfect strike for the longest time and i can't tell you how unfun it is too constantly use that timed delayed attack. i have a feeling that axes will lead to bleed warrior builds that everyone will start to enjoy. my merc has literally 0% armour and 0% evasion, but a ton of ES and it feels so much more survivable than my warrior did with 75% block and a ton of armour.
I actually like the 1 portal maps. It really does change my playstyle and how I look at things. It makes defensive layers on a build way more important and enjoyable and the game as a whole will be in a pretty good spot if they manage to balance most things correctly. Throwing your body at something 6 times like in PoE1 is pretty silly, even though I agree that it's currently a bit too punishing if you die in PoE2.
You should expect warrior to always suck at the beginning of an ARPG life. Then they get over tuned into being kinda broken. Sorcerer has always been the too strong from the start and nerfed down later class, so anyone who’s smart started here with sorcerer, or at least not warrior. It’s just the nature of the game, ranged vs melee, magic has more options where a game always have to invent weird AOE ideas for warriors and such
I got to lvl90 on my Warrior before finally re-rolling a Monk and wow do i feel like i wasted a lot of time. Im only in act 3 and feel more powerful than i ever did on Warrior. The gameplay loop is also more fun.
I don’t now why warrior gets so much hate I literally can leap slam into any mob and bone shatter and I clear the screen. The key is to getting the stun just right to trigger bone shatter I think that’s what it’s called. I have great motility cause i can leap 100 yards across the map
The philosophy behind uniques in path of exile is that they are unique, they are not legendary or epic or exotics. they unique meaning quite literally one of a kind, they do something that nothing else does that doesn’t necessarily mean they are good.
I’ve been with a gaming group for 20+ years. We are simply just not playing it. No transmog, it’s got class microtransactions which are like $369.00, $220.00, and another over $100.00 (which is absurd and a warning sign), and classes are gender locked. People get lucky and vendor a godly low level mace in act 1 that carries them through campaign, everyone else hates warrior. Ive heard if you cant sustain maps its because your build sucks, i guess we should have our build completely figured out when we beat the campaign lol, finding/crafting a good item in poe2 is harder than figuring out all the in game mechanics in poe1, you cant just grind killing monsters to progress in endgame, every half decent item is twice as rare as any ilvl 85 unique item in d2, having alot of fun playing but i feel like ill still be struggling to sustain t4 maps and be stuck at lvl 79 by the time the full game releases.
I mean ya by the time you’re that level you should have a pretty good idea what you’re doing with your build. That said I don’t think it’s just builds that are an issue for ppls map sustain. I think it just comes down to game knowledge. I had a hard time sustaining starting out but once I learned how to properly use waystones and to go for bosses it became much less of an issue.
