Mr Steele Freestyle Finals World Drone Prix 2016

- This is my finals freestyle flight from the World Drone Prix 2016. After figuring out that I made it into the Freestyle finals, I had about 12 hours to come up with a way to make my flight stand out for the judges, whom were all very skill and well know 3D helicopter pilots.
I asked Tommy "UmmaGawd," to help with music Ideas for my run. After combing through Tommy's playlists I stumbled upon this song. At the time it suited my mood perfectly and make the decision to use it for my run later that day.
Leading up to the Freestyle finals I had a huge smile on my face and was in a world of bliss listening to this song and preparing myself for one of the hardest freestyle comps to date, not only was I going up against some of the best pilots in the world, but the judges were hardcore and the flight environment was a place no one had flown before.
This flight was made up as I flew, based on an over all picture that I wanted to paint using the song as my reference.
After a week of stress and little sleep the moment I took off, my mind went blank, in a state of true Bliss. In that moment I remembered what it was like to let your mind go and let the moment take over. At the end I was almost in tears at how perfectly things had just clicked into place, everything I could have imagined could happen happened.
In that moment I was calm, with a smile from ear to ear as I knew what it meant to be amongst true friends.
I would like to thank everyone I met in Dubai, pilots, locals, event staff, construction workers, Bus drivers, and many more. This was an experience of a life time and it will be locked in my memory forever.

One of the most epic runs I've ever seen! The backflip through the gate is sick.

Not hating, just reacting as a noob - those two flips through the gate were the only "cool" maneuvers I saw. There rest seemed like relatively random flips and spins or whatever you call them.
If you consider this run epic, does it mean that flips and twists in open space (not through a gate) are super hard or something? A lot of YT videos I have seen have a lot of flips in them. I know that I probably wouldn't be able to do that, but it seems like pros and semi-pros do them all the time.
Why is this run supposed to be epic? I'm trying to gain some perspective on this. Cheers.
@@PeterKoperdan this was done 3 years ago. Thats how far we've come that this looks "bad" by our current standard.
@@andremartinez6934 Thanks for the answer. So how hard is a simple flip or a roll? Say I flew for 6 months, then practiced a simple flip for a week. Could I then use it in an open space? Or is it something super hard and I would smash many drones into the ground before learning it? (It just seems so simple..)
@@PeterKoperdan i personally understand you and I get the way you feel. Felt the same towards it when i first watched this clip. I personally think steele flew better in his bando flights. Still, it was impressive given the crowd, the location, and overall just making it work.
Can't believe how bad this looks if you watch it in 2018! I remember watching this in awe two years ago... It really shows how far this hobby has gone in just two years and how crazy the world we live in is. Everything evolves so fast it's very hard to keep up for our poor human brains. Scary. (P.S. 2:31 is still sick today ^ ^)

@@Sylo2Nice "He flew then how most of us do now." Why is that? What has changed since then? Surely people haven't suddenly become great pilots.. Surely basic flips/rolls were invented at the dawn of quad flying..
Are quads inherently unstable? Like do you have to "wrestle" the quad just to keep it in the air? To me it seems like quads have so much directional power, that you can fly them like a mad man around an open space.
I know that flying real quads is different from flying winged aircraft in a simulator, but damn, flips/rolls are SUPER easy in a wing simulator.. Is doing basic rolls/flips really so difficult with a quad?
P.S. Asking as a noob that is going to buy a quad when he saves up ;-)
@@PeterKoperdan yea its alittle more difficult at first but once you get the hang of it you will be in a whole new world. Lol. I havent uploaded in a while but looking at my own last video im way better now. I just choose to fly more than upload these daya

@@PeterKoperdan Yes, it's definitely more difficult. Doing all those acro figures like flips loops etc requires precise handling of the gas, taking it off and adding it at the right moment. It is quite a long process of learning the muscles to coordinate everything.
The problem with this is that the entire course is about .01% as interesting as this dude's average places to fly. Still Amazing skills, the course is just bland.
The "Course" looked like a racetrack to me, I don't think its sole purpose is freestyle

Gorgeous run and you guys saved their commentary on sunday for sure. I was glued to my PC the whole week :D Every bit of footage from Dubai made the whole FPV community seem like something I'd love to be a part of. Such a cool atmosphere.
If i'd heard of the event earlier, I might have flown there as well. The track looked THAT bonkers. As a long-time raver and cyberpunk aficionado, I'll never be able to get the event off my retinas. I also love how so many like trap as soundtracks for their videos :D

I was there watching LOS at the time cause I had just arrived when you started.. I had no idea it was this epic! I'm new to this hobby and started getting serious only later last year but DAMN! I wish I could get to this skill level one day.

personally i think it was the 1st place performance , the risk you took and confidence was amazing.
the judges are hardcore pilots yes, so FPV style might not be their thing,
you could have captured their attention with your LOS performance

As you were flying towards the high gate, I knew things seemed a bit "too easy", which was when you did a half-flip and flew through backwards--and it made me literally laugh out loud.

Without a doubt one of the best freestyle flies I've seen, if not THE best. The backflip through the gate blew my mind with its simplicity, execution, and WTF-factor. I was half-expecting you to flying through your legs, but it's probably better you didn't ;-)

Love the smoothness of the way you fly. A lot of freestylers seem to be very jagged on the throttle and it ruins the flow of the flight. You seem to make the Drone dance like it's floating in the way you dream it to. Insperational.

Nice run. It's much more difficult to rock like that in a competition than just select a good lipo among dozens recorded in your garden. I specially enjoy the flip through the highest gate, it required the perfect momentum and it just passed so easily.

Yo! I have been a subscriber for 2+ years and I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pissed at myself for not looking into Periscope earlier! I just got done watching 3 hours worth of vids. Nice stuff! And I'm going to say what I'm sure everyone has said and say "DAMN I WISH I WAS YOUR NEIGHBOR!" I would be a trip to walk outside in the mornings and have live Mr Steele shows.
