What is the difference between 学院 and 大学?
学院 - a college or an institution
大学 - a university

So one could say that 学院 is a more generic term or is it exactly how we consider it in English: a college can by any institution of higher learning (including a University) whereas a University is typically considered higher education that what a college may be. It all sort of depends lol
大学 is more like a comprehensive university, while 学院 is similar to a specific college or department within a university. It's a bit like how we use the term "university" and "college" in English, but with a slight distinction in scope.
You can think of 大学 as a big university where you can study various subjects, and 学院 as a smaller college within that big university, focusing on specific areas like arts, science, or business.
