This was originally a horse drawn hay rake.
The operator could push the foot pedal and use the hand lever on the right side to "dump" the hay.
This is a "dump" rake and will trip and dump when it is full.

Thanks for the video. I happen to have one of these. I have not seen it used since I was a kid in the 60's. Neighbors made yard a decoration out of it and our 4 row cultivator. Gonna do the same with our sickle bar mower. Figured painted on display was better than rotting away in a hedgerow. Know for a fact, that the cultivator was in the woods since before WW2. Still have an old 3 bottom plow, disc and section of the old chisel plow. Also have a pair of single trees. Last time I seen one of them used was to hang a deer for skinning. Grandfather said one of the happiest days of his life was when his Father bought a tractor and those darn horses were sold off. Those old folks are long gone, but the memories will always remain. A city grew up around the old place. Now, cub cadet and dixie chopper do all of the work around here. I am fortunate to have the last seven acres for yard. Man I remember when this place was in corn and............Peace.

Probably will not add a trip rope to the old rake.
Was just "playing" with it the other day.
Yes, it is being pulled by "Mac" one of our 51MTs.
Glad you liked the video; we enjoy sharing them.

no such thing as self tripping it either had to be tripped by a rope pull or a foot trip

This is not how these are "done." You lock the thing down with the large "D" pedal, then let that up and stomp on the small circular pedal to dump. That pedal engages a mechanical pawl system in the wheels. I was so young and little the first year or two I had to ride one of these, I had a stick on a rope, stuck the stick into the "D" pedal and my foot up higher on the stick to create enough leverage. I don't know, 12? or so so around 1958--60
Dad did not have a baler until after I joined the Navy in 68. He did get a side delivery and we used a mechanical loader behind the trailer.

Are you going to hook up a rope to the trip pedal and the lever that holds the rake down. That's what we used to do when we raked with these. Is that an MT I hear in the background? Thanks for sharing.

I guess that you have to dump it yourself

Yes, by either a foot pedal or the hand lever.
