Slater for 32 years, the silicone’s of yesteryear do not compare to what’s available nowadays, but like everything: they only work if they are used correctly.
Well you obviously don't know how to install slate ridges. Your giving 8" exposure on a 14" slate which is wrong. If it's a 14 " slate the most you can give for exposure is 6 1/2". Then the correct sequence is right side with left side over ,then left side again with right side overlapping both and continuing with the same sequence.
This is just a made up method of slating what a strange way of capping the ridge line .Traditional ridge methods work well and have stood the test of time
Roofer for 22 years , do not rely on silicone or sealants for anything
Or dpm🤣
equals diy

Hi! Great video, what is the black sheet material you have used underneath the slate ridge? Is that roofing felt or somthing else?
Dpm by looks of it
Hi need help can you buy ridge caps for slate roofs. SO FED UP WITH MORTAR KEEP FALLING OUT.
putting good slate on the roof then relying on dpm and silicone
at the ridge not good
I would respectfully suggest you review this and take it down- it really doesn't look right with the 'slipped' slates and wonky overlaps.
That is not much coverage and will leak. Sorry.
Just get a roll of lead and do it the right way

Can you expand on this a little please.
just put a copper ridge on that man, If you want slates on the ridge why not use outside copper steps in each joint
Don't use a caulking gun on a slate roof.

What an awful bodge.
please stop
Terrible system
I hate to see silicon used ‘ it will eventually break down and leaks will happen ‘ better to use a ridge the way it was always done
Wont matter. Nails are in place
How not to ridge
