Shocking
just put a copper ridge on that man, If you want slates on the ridge why not use outside copper steps in each joint
I thought youd have to remove so many more singles to repair that singular shingle. Im leaning so much
Just get a roll of lead and do it the right way
putting good slate on the roof then relying on dpm and silicone at the ridge not good
something looks very wrong with this installation
This is just a made up method of slating what a strange way of capping the ridge line .Traditional ridge methods work well and have stood the test of time
Don't use a caulking gun on a slate roof.
What an awful bodge.
please stop
Terrible system
Roofer for 22 years , do not rely on silicone or sealants for anything
Or dpm🤣
equals diy
Slater for 32 years, the silicone’s of yesteryear do not compare to what’s available nowadays, but like everything: they only work if they are used correctly.
pile of jizz. who the fcuk thought it would be useful to film this cowboy doing a ridge badly? how much side lap to nail hole is on that ridge?
That is not much coverage and will leak. Sorry.

I would respectfully suggest you review this and take it down- it really doesn't look right with the 'slipped' slates and wonky overlaps.
Well you obviously don't know how to install slate ridges. Your giving 8" exposure on a 14" slate which is wrong. If it's a 14 " slate the most you can give for exposure is 6 1/2". Then the correct sequence is right side with left side over ,then left side again with right side overlapping both and continuing with the same sequence.
Can you expand on this a little please.
Hi need help can you buy ridge caps for slate roofs. SO FED UP WITH MORTAR KEEP FALLING OUT.
How much of an overlap is on them slates
None lol
Slate just covers the felt/plastic underneath that does the real water proofing
I hate to see silicon used ‘ it will eventually break down and leaks will happen ‘ better to use a ridge the way it was always done
Wont matter. Nails are in place
How not to ridge
Hi! Great video, what is the black sheet material you have used underneath the slate ridge? Is that roofing felt or somthing else?
Dpm by looks of it
I thought you had to use copper nails so they can be ripped out easily for slate replacement if one gets brocken but I might be wrong
Copper are the preferred option for anti corrosion purposes. Slats do not have a tongue and grove overlap like concrete tiles, so they may be exposed to moist air. Concrete tiles on other hand people used galvanised nails, usually galv comes off them when you put them in.
Very nice looking roof tell your boys good job
