    Was doing routine maintenance and cleaning of my chiller pump and after re-installation...... WHOOPS! Silly me! I forgot to plug it back in! Come home from work tonight and discovered the water was nearly boiling! (Not quite, but around 89 degrees.) Realizing it would take the chiller quite some time to bring the temp down to 80 I REMEMBERED THIS VIDEO! Had an old V8 jug of water frozen in the fridge. So I dropped it in the aquarium just awhile ago and I'll see what happens. Sure as heck won't hurt, right? Thank you Mr KaveMan for this suggestion!

    To enhance the cooling effect of the bottles you could add salt to the water in the bottles. The freezing point of water decreases as the salt content increases. Adding 10 percent salt decreases the freezing point from 0 degrees Celcius (32 degrees Fahrenheit) to minus 6 degrees Celcius (21.2 degrees Fahrenheit). At 20 percent it decreases to minus 16 degrees Celcius (3.2 degrees Fahrenheit). Depending on your freezer you could go as low as minus 23 Celcius (-9.4 Fahrenheit). Have used this in a sump where it cooled faster and longer in comparison to plain water. Hope this helps.

    Hey Kev. Another great video. You always cover the topics very well.
    Something to add from personal experience. A lot of people have equipment such as filters, transformers for lights and wavemakers etc placed in the cabinet. If the cabinet does not have proper ventilation the hot air made by these items will heat up the top of the cabinet and the heat can transfer up to the aquarium (even if styrofoam is used between the cabinet and the tank).
    Keep the videos coming buddy :)

    Kev, thanks for this great video. I'm just in the setup phase right now, and I was worried about what will happen in the summer. My home has no AC as I live pretty far north and summers are short, but the last few years we've been getting more and more unusually hot weather. Last summer it got unbearably hot in the house for about a week.
    I was wondering if using frozen water bottles would be okay, and you answered my question right away!
    Now I'll be prepared for those July/August heat waves. Thanks again.

      86F...Thats very close to their optimal temp levels anyway. Im sure they would be fine at that temp all year round. Remember one of the best way to cure ICH is to raise temps to about 88-90F. So yes they can survive in high temps...but there's always a breaking point.

    I have not done a water change. I will be doing it the same way you do with the submersible pump. So I will put prime in the basin that pumps into the 75g tank. But for those who don’t and just use the python, if you put tap water directly into the tank does it kill good bacteria? Or should you prime the 20% of water left in the tank first?

    • @KaveManAquatics

My tank temperature goes up to about 84F during the day and drops to about 81.5F at night during these warm days in NYC. Not much difference from my average temperature of 79-80F. • @KaveManAquatics
      @KaveManAquatics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      not really, because the temperature change is slow and gradual. your heater should keep the tank to a minimum temp, like if you got it at 79-80 it wont go below that. If it heats up a few degrees during the day to 84 they should still be fine...its the 90's and up when you need to start worrying and trying these strategies.

    I think you are great but I am sorry I don't agree with ice in the water if you do that you really have to know your fish and know what the correct temperature is but for example if you live in hot countries like Thailand for example and we are having the mother of all heatwaves right now and you have gold fish tetras and then some local fish in the same tank this can be tricky because the water temperature for each can differ and ice in water can cause shock and kill them. However I did come up with an idea to take a large water tank with pipes or a pipe going off it to the tank down a straw like tube in to the tank and some of the fish tank water mixed with a little ice creating a safe temperature for all say 28 c already mixed and the tank kept cool with the foil insulation and don't quote me on that temperature , then imagine a fan off fine the straw like tubes at the bottom of the tank but a fan on tiny tubes gently putting the cooler water in with several gentle pipes fan shaped sending bubbles going up to the top of the tank leaving it on until the alarm temperature beep stops or the safe temperature is reached and to also assist at the top of the tube a not fast wave maker it's hard to explain but I hope you get the jist and again using the same filtration and the tank water and ice already measured to cool slowly but effectively so not too slow but not to shock the fish could this work maybe. In Thailand you are talking 115 f for hour and hours and days and days and the Thai people and expats have ponds and fishtanks outdoors so I am trying to come up with a cheaper option to the expensive boxes and also so you can have multiple small gentle glass pipes for example blowing bubbles up and creating waves on top while cooling in a gentle manner and long term throughout those days and months now I don't know if this will work it's just an idea but maybe, what do you think? I just feel too many people will mess up using ice especially in hot countries and little education on aquariums kept outdoors and ponds . I saw the other day a load of koi huddled almost on top of each other in the corner of a pond not deep enough to handle these crazy heatwave temperatures with little shades and hot bath water 😢 not their fault no one experienced 3 months of boiling heat. Could this work do you think maybe 3 or 4 of these fans pumping gentle cool water for larger ponds again with the temperature going in kept at a cool 28c temperature and insulated . Just an idea I had and I am not a genius like you ❤
