*(For the CrossFit Team and those who value respectful uplifting commentary).*
2 Names - Lazar Dukic & Sean Woodland.
Sean Woodland is the heart of The Games (I'm starting with Sean for a reason, bare with me). He speaks kindly about every athlete, highlighting the best of them and able to spot flaws without being critical or condescending. Getting into the sport earlier this year, Sean kept me in tune. He highlighted athletes and their journey's whilst staying focused on the games and what was happening in real time (edit: that statement is unfortunately ironic, forgive me). Sean is able to connect through being himself and what seemed like his genuine interest in bringing up the real stories of athletes like learning how Roman got to the games and what he was facing while competing.
Why start with Sean and not Lazar? Because Lazar deserved Sean Woodland commentary. What seems like a genuine kind soul in Lazar would be matched by the kindness of Sean Woodland (I say seem because I don't know either of them personally but appreciate all I've been exposed to). With Sean in the box I feel there's a *real* heart in the games and his absence is painful amidst the incompetence of the opening day.
From a business point - unfortunately this matters - Sean is a cheat code because you make those of us who love him happy and you get someone who is respectful.
More viewers would feel comfortable and invited to watch the games.
I see with other commentators the *desperate* urge to *constantly* remind people that "Crossfit is hard" but that is the least valuable thing to highlight or discuss at this time. Yes, you are strong big tough man and lady, do hard work get big muscle. Right now?
    *RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT?!*
"Rest In Peace Lazar Dukic, thank you for the light you brought to the games. I'm Sean Woodland here and we are live at the CrossFit games carrying Lazar Dukic with us as we continue to honour his life through the weekend."
My last - maybe - attempt at trying to highlight the value of communicating that a LIFE WAS LOST here. As well as the value of RESPECT & TONE with the voice that made me stay and finish watching my first games in SEAN WOODLAND.
    That's all.
    #RIPLaza 🤍🖤🕊️

It’s always a keyboard warrior who can tell these people how to do their job from the comfort of their own home. This is a tragedy. Was it preventable? Maybe so…but at the end of the day this happened in less than a minute…do you have any part of your day where if you don’t do your job for 1 minute a person dies? It excuses nothing but unless you’ve actually dealt with something like this or have a real solution keep it to yourself. This mans family and his memory are whats important.

In the face of tragedy, the decision to continue or cancel an event like the CrossFit Games is undeniably difficult and sensitive. However, there are compelling reasons why the games should consider continuing, albeit with appropriate adjustments and considerations. Like CrossFit did in this case.
One reason to consider continuing the games is to honor the spirit of the fallen athlete. By pushing forward, the community can come together to celebrate the passion, dedication, and hard work that athletes pour into their training and competition. This can serve as a tribute to the athlete's memory and a way to show resilience in the face of adversity.
We have many examples where a similar decision was made in the world of sports and the one I’ll add here was the 2013 Boston Marathon. Following the tragic bombings that occurred near the finish line, there was a strong debate about whether the race should continue the following year. Ultimately, the organizers decided to hold the 2014 Boston Marathon as a symbol of unity, strength, and resilience in the face of adversity. The event became a powerful statement of solidarity and an opportunity for the community to come together in a show of support.
In the case of the CrossFit Games, continuing the event was the appropriate thing to do, especially since it was the families wishes that it continue. By continuing it honors the victim and send a message of unity, support, and determination in the face of tragedy.
Ultimately, I believe that the decision to continue was the right call and I applaud those athletes that have continued and I support the decision of those athletes that decided to withdraw. In all cases, the decision was the correct decision.

Then cancel the games and put every resource into a full and proper investigation of why Lazar’s struggle wasn’t spotted in the moment- and why he wasn’t pulled from the water, there and then.
