I have these pads on my M4, they are fantastic. I used to run with EBC Yellow Stuff, but I found they just liked eating my rotors, fantastic braking even from cold and not scared of being put into hell on a hard track day, but they just liked eating iron too much... The Red Stuff are an awesome compromise, really good braking force, even on a ‘semi-hot’ track day, less brake dust for daily driving and way better than OEM pads for braking performance. They will still eat your OEM discs in two sets of pads, but hey BMW seem to use soft iron for rotors...
Brian, nice video! Helpful for sure, though my favorite part was the epic music and slow-mo of you cleaning the wheel, never before have I been so into a detailing clip!
Nice video. Ceramic brakes are awesome. The only downside is that they tend to eat up your rotators. That's not really a big deal to me because I believe in replacing pads and rotators as a set.
Are the original brake pads adhered to the pistons? I noticed you lubricated it. Some people say to install a glue instead of a lubricant on the backside of the brake pad...let me know. thanks
No, they don’t squeal. When any brakes squeal it’s usually due to not putting some lube between the pads and the pistons. Fully carbon ceramic disc pad combo will quite often squeal when they are cold, but these are just ceramic based pads, and in my experience they don’t make any untoward noise. They are just good quality brake pads, with less dust and better braking force.
@@steve5x565 its not the only issue and certain BMW are know for this I got a brand new 435 that was making noise with 3000 miles and know countless others with same problem. there is even a lawsuit against BMW for this reason
I know these brake systems which are used on motorcycles especially on Supersport bikes. What do you think about a little bit of copper paste on each pin (after cleaning) ? It helps the pad to move a lot easier and on street cars/bikes, where you don't change the pads often like on trackdays, it's nice to prevent the pin to oxidate. By the way i really like your videos.... no bling bling/bla bla just technics and the way to go
Just dropped $800 on pads and rotors for the front and rear on my f30 335i. Kies: HOW TO CHANGE YOUR BREAKS FOR DUMMYS!! Damn it Brian, you couldn’t have put this up last week? 🥺
Changing rotors is an easy DIY, remove the wheel, follow the pad removal video above, take out the two bolts holding the calliper to the hub (make sure to support it and not let it hang by the brake hose) remove the screw between two of the wheel bolt holes, slight tap should free the rotor, remove and replace. But don’t replace with anything BMW, they are soft and squidgy even the M-Sport ones. My OEM M4 brake rotors look great but they are like chocolate when it comes to braking.
Hey Brian, great video! Any chance you still have those dirty wheels laying around? I’d love to buy them and give it the o’l college try at cleaning them if we can work out a deal 😅
@kiesmotorports I need to your help! My F32 M Sport Brakes squeak an insane amount and I can't stand it! Is there anything I can do, I've tried changing pads and discs and cleaning them fully.... yet it still sounds like an old school bus. Thank you Bryan
F36 owner here. Glad to know I'm not the only one whose brakes squeak like crazy too lol. I saw on some forum or video (can't remember the source) that our models of cars are notoriously noisy when it comes to brakes. Happy to hear any advice or if you've resolved your squeakiness.
You have to give a LOT more specifics. What pads, specifically? Performance/race pads are always going to have some amount of squeal. Street pads should generally be quieter. If you're still getting squeal, make sure you apply a quality anti squeal paste to the parts during installation. Ceramic pads are also very quiet.
Are the M Sport brakes the same regardless of what engine you have in your F30? I have a 328 with M Sport brakes and I hear grinding under breaking. I would rather do the maintenance by myself. Great video Brian!
No, these are Brembos, my F30 M sport has the regular BMW breaks. Idk if it was a package you need to buy for the Brembos, but my F30 doesn't have them.
Red stuff is for track use mostly, because when cold they dont grip. Yellow stuff is for daily driving and occasional track use.If you only drive in town green stuff is the way to go on cold have amazing grip, but break dust build up varies, how u use the breaks. On green stuff if you going to brake like crazy and get them hot they will shed brake dust everywhere. Recommendation go with Yellow. Unless you go to track take red stuff or even racing grade EBC provides :)
Would you recommend this for a F82 putting out 580BHP? I am trying to avoid high dust but Ofcourse stopping power is important as well. I am using original stock rotors from BMW
demaine rawlins very rarely, people only run into problems when they track the car. The problem is there is oil starvation when turning the car at high G’s. So if you don’t track your car, it’s nothing to worry about.
Your timing is impeccable. Right when I needed to replace my pads.
here i am now, my exact thoughts lol
Can we just talk about those wheel cleaning cinematics..🤯

do you know how the redstuff stacks up against Hawk HPS 5s? I need to change my pads and want to go with a less dusty option with great performance

Great video!👍 Easiest pad slap in the automotive world!😀
The video I was just looking for!!! Thanks Kies!
Very clear video to see exactly how you’re doing it - thanks for making this video as helped me do the change on my F80 :)
You are quite literally a LIFESAVER!!
Thanks for the step by step! Just got done installing mine 🙌🏽🙏🏽

Regular cleaning of the wheels solves the brake dust issue. And some good wheel cleaner. Bilt hamber auto wheel is great
THANK YOU, I was about to do this and didnt want to sift through all the manuals and crappy videos.
What's the name of the pad that caused the hell dust? Give it up.
Bowden's Own Wheely Clean 👌
Does the brake fluid reservoir need to be opened while pushing the pistons back in?
might try these for my 240i, my break pads just shed dust like no other, it drives me crazy. also feel like it doesnt bite down
push the pedal harder :)
Are the original brake pads adhered to the pistons? I noticed you lubricated it. Some people say to install a glue instead of a lubricant on the backside of the brake pad...let me know. thanks
Acid will definitely take off that brake dust, not the safest and ideal option but will definitely work wonders!
This is awesome and so easy! Question, what would happen if you install the retaining clip upside down? The part looks symmetrical.
I just got these brake pads & they have a super loud squeal is that normal? Does it have a brake in period??
So these ones don’t squeal like a pig when they’re cold? I’ve experienced an M3 with carbon brakes and it made some terrible sounds when cold.
No, they don’t squeal. When any brakes squeal it’s usually due to not putting some lube between the pads and the pistons. Sorry 😅
Brake dust is good! Change my mind?
Also, any recommendation for track pads/rotors?
Great video as always, is the process the same for the new G-series cars?
Very cool. Will these pads work with non M calipers?
Great video
Do you need to open the reservoir when pushing the calipers back?
Do you have a DIY for changing out the Brake Rotors for M-sport brakes?

Would the ceramic brakes be less performant? Last less?
...and how do they perform vs the regular brake pads?
Where did you get those slotted brake rotors

Question for Brian.... Can you have carplay and Apple TV in an f30 or you can keep one??
Which break firm you buy?)
I got brake pad slap for some reason even after following this video and getting new pins and anti rattle clips
What is better hawk 5.0 pads or these yellow stuff ones.
What wheels are those in the beginning of the video?

i have a 2019 m240i x drive with m sport brakes on the rear and front. Can i put these pads on my OEM rotor disk?
Red stuff wouldn’t have been my choice. It’s a hard pad and will eat the brake disc quicker but it’s got some awesome stopping power.
awesome !! please do a video on meth injection DIY !! 👍🏼👍🏼

Your rotor could be shot causing vibration and pulsing, or your pads are shot.

pretty sure you flipped those two. yellow is track, red is more daily.

yellowstuff 🤘🏻
what are the down sides to ceramic on a 335 msport minus the track stuff.

has to be for discs as well no pads cost that much
So do these redstuff pads actually give low dust compared to stock pads?
Any ceramic pad recommendations for the g01 x3 M40i?

EBC and Akebono should have a ceramic pad that works. Either one is fine.
