Sims 3
In the Sims 3, horses came with Sims 3: Pets alongside cats and dogs. They weren't a separate expansion pack.
In the Sims 3, you can get a horse by adopting one for free. After you adopt a horse, the horse will be brought to your house in a vehicle. You can also befriend a wild horse and add them to your family. You can go to the Equestrian Center and buy one. The easiest way is creating one while you're creating your Sim. In the Sims 3, Horses are selectable and you can control them like you control your Sims. Horses in The Sims 3 have 6 needs: Hunger, Energy, Social, Exercise, Thirst, Bladder. Horses can groom other horses, can play with them, and a male and a female horse can try for a foal. After a few days of pregnancy the mare will bear a foal. the foal can be nursed. when foals are near their mother, they are very happy, and miserable when they're separated.
Sims 4
Horses in The Sims 4 came in a separate expansion pack - Sims 4: Horse Ranch. Unlike The Sims 3, Horses in The Sims 4 cannot be controlled like Sims. You can get a horse by rescuing one for §250 or buying one for §1000. After choosing a horse, your Sim will disappear and come back with the horse. You can then rename the horse if you want. You can also go to the Equestrian Centre and rescue or buy a horse. You can create one in CAS and customize it the way you want. you can Choose the horse's traits and breed. Unlike The Sims 3, you can now create a foal and elder horse as well.
Horses have 5 needs: Hunger, Energy, Fun, Social and Hygiene.
There are few ways you can take care of your horse. Your horse will get dirty, so You can brush their coat, clean their hooves to increase their hygiene.
Horses also have emotions. when they get scared you can try to calm them down. You can also hug your horse, rub their neck, scratch their neck, talk to them, tell jokes. When you become good friends, you can also whisper to your horse and mellow out when your horse is happy.
You can encourage horses to socialize with other Sims, other horses, mini goats and mini sheep. Male and female horse can breed with each other and produce a foal.

Pretty much. It's a game pack though, not an official EP like they're trying to claim. It has about half (or less) of the things you'd normally get in an offical EP.

I know right!! I didn't get the sims 4 horses pack but I can imagine how incredibly boring it must be to be confined to a single lot.
In sims 3 I downloaded this large african themed world with no roads and was able to use horses to travel accross the whole map. It was just awesome. Sims 3 is so superior.
In Sims 3 I use to play as a teen and I made her ride her horse around town after curfew and the Police were chasing her, but the horse kept on going 😅 I hated curfew before that, but this made it fun.

In the sims 3, if you breed a mare with high skills (eg. Level 9) the foal will have a portion of those skills. If both parents have maxed skills, then the goal will automatically have like, level 7 off those skills when they age into an adult horse.

They aren't attached to anything in The Sims 3 either. The stirrups are just bigger in The Sims 4, making it more obvious.
Sims 3 was an full pets pack and horses had more things than sims 4 horses.
This is kind of depressing 🥲 and to think, ts3 pets wasn’t a whole pack focused on horses, horses were like 1/9 animals introduced and they STILL seem more complex than TS4 horses who got an entirely focused pack 🫠
One of the things that bother me with pets from the sims 4 is that the foals/ puppies or kittens inherit their coat from their parents (or a new one taken randomly from the premade coats), but in the sims 3 an entirely new one is generated by mixing the parent's coats. That is one of the things that made having pets more fun (to see what kind of combinations you'd make).

With all of these comparison videos I’ve noticed that the older games always seem to have more depth and little details compared to TS4.
The only thing I do really like about the Sims 4 is the art style. I just wish they didn’t take so many animations from TS3 that just end up looking off on the new models, but then again, it seems I’m asking too much from the little indie studio that is EA.

I see a lot of people saying Sims 4 has a nice art style but I'm so not into it. Just compare the horses, how much more detailed and beautiful they are in the Sims 3 version and how bland and plastic-y they look in the Sims 4 version. Sims 4 is supposed to look more cartoony, yet I think lack of proper rendering kills it.
But there's no reason for them to change anything. People are still buying and there's still profit. They don't really mind if it's shallow, unfortunately.
Honestly the only pro for me that Sims 4 horses have over Sims 3 horses is that kids can ride them. That's it. That's literally it.
You can have it in TS3 too with a mod. It looks a little bit strange because the child is drawn long for it - but it doesn’t cost 40€. 🫠💸

I’ve been playing the sims 3 for over 10 years and there’s still new things i find. I didn’t know about quite a few things you’ve mentioned and have had families with horses numerous times
all those nostalgic sims 3 sounds. im going back, havent played sims 4 in over a yr.
in sims 4 they could have EASILY made a large 64x64 plains lot and had a lot trait that would allow tameable horses to spawn, I MEAN THEY DO THAT WITH STRAY ANIMALS in the worlds so why was this ignored??

Not related to horses, but I hate how in the modern sims games they almost immediately laugh when they call someone on the phone. They used to talk like normal people in the sims 1!
I adore Sims 2 hands down, still think it's the best Sims game...fight me. But TS3 made an AMAZING fleshed out animal pack and it puts all of TS4's animal packs to SHAME.
I agree with the Sims 2 being the best game.
The gameplay of the Sims 2, the content of the Sims 3, the animation of The Sims 4, and the cheekiness and overall vibe of The Sims 1 would be the perfect game.
the sims 4 foals can be nursed by the mother as well at least mine was. It was an automatic interaction that doesn't happen often but you also have the option to feed the foal.
It didn't happen for me. But I'll keep trying to catch it for part 2 ❤
by the way, even if you can't control the horses, like in Sims 3, you can still see their skill there? It's just that in Sims 3, a foal can inherit the level of skills from its parents, which literally simulates breeding a horse with the best characteristics, with which it is easier to win competitions or sell for more money

The Sims 4 animations look sloppy, like clipping and or shallow/quick/unsmooth. Amazing how they did nothing to improve years later, but went backwards because they were lazy and money-hungry. Why did they take away the ability to control horses?
TS3 horses look more realistic, and have better textures. TS4 horses look cartoony and plain.

Some SSO is plain cartoony as well, but look at their horses, their animations and models. They look like 50 times more realistic and alive than this tremendous bs.

The Sims 3 does not lag anymore with Lag free Mod and some fps limit changes. It runs pretty well.
@@yourdream-lb9oc I suppose with mods like Overwatch it can be fixed but it's still a shame you have to mod Sims 3 to make it optimal to play, even if it's just the regular game and no actual gameplay changes :p

looking at the adopt/buy horses in both games, sims 3 horses are so varied and sims 4 horses are... so.... simple

they should've waited with releasing Cats & Dogs until they could add Horses and make it a full on Pets expansion in my opinion. Even then still, it would've had less than TS3 since its Pets came with wild and domestic birds, rodents, snakes, lizards and turtles (+wild horses and unicorns) as well as non playable raccoons and deer, but probably with the Sheep and Goats it would be a pass for the community!

Sims 4 Horse Ranch is so cash grabby, they just copied some TS3 animations and put them on very cartoony looking horses, Sims 3 is better, both on looks and gameplay for this one

@@Amelia19292 yes it does, sims 3 horses are so realistic and have more customization options (except on coat) while sims 4 horses look like SSO horses, and only have 2 normal manes (that still look ugly and unreal)

I also felt such freedom in ts3 when we had an etire map to enjoy with our horses... These load screens in ts4 are killing me. Def, ts3 was a better game.

I’m glad we have horses in the Sims 4 now, and they look really nice, and there are a couple of things I like better, but overall I just wish they put at least as much interactive horse gameplay as the Sims 3 Pets into Sims 4 Horse Ranch. Knowing how long awaited horses were, I was hoping they’d give the horse gamers a reason to upgrade to Sims 4.
The new try-for-foal animation is really cute, and the horses looks, especially hooves, are much more detailed but coming from Sims 3…
- I haven’t seen an option to lead horses, I thought they might use the Cats and Dogs leash animation
- jumping over one rail over and over is not nearly as exciting as at least 3. Even if you couldn’t make your own courses, if there was a bigger object option I’d accept that
- Maybe there are more CAS categories for a foal to inherit from each parent, but mixing coat patterns is more noticeable and exciting than getting colour clones
- Sure we have more competition options and the UI is nice, but they were even slightly more interactive in Sims 3
- I like the very pretty Sims 4 Western world, I don’t mind the ghost town set, but they boxed themselves in and left out much for the English riders
- I didn’t even think of this before this video, but the option to drink from other bodies of water besides just the trough, like drinking from puddles and anywhere your Sims 4 sims can swim would be good
Also, I somehow never noticed that the stirrups weren’t attached in the Sims 3, but they stand out to me in the Sims 4.
I don’t know if the Sims 4 team thought the horse girl audience wouldn’t be enough to warrant building a bigger world for riding and animating the horse life-state and maybe that’s why they spread themselves thin on other ranch stuff, but I do wish they had allocated more time to making the horse gameplay as good as in its predecessor.
I will admittedly probably give in and get this pack eventually, I do think it would add to my Sims 4 gameplay and be fun, but not until it’s on sale.
All games with sequels should BUILD on what the previous had, not go backwards. When you compare most TS4 animations/gameplay to TS3, if it werent for graphics youd think TS4 was actually TS1 or 2 based on gameplay.

The Sims4 is nice, but it did not focus on important in game features. And is trying to guess whatever the players will enjoy and do not really focus on what the players are actually asking for.

24:03 I cant believe they were so lazy even when it comes to cleaning hoves! If you watch closely you can notice that in the Sims 3 when Sim bends to pick up horse's leg they touch horses leg from up to down. That's exactly how you do it with horses, you let them know that you what them to pick up their leg for you and they're less surprised. But oh well, in the Sims 4 Sim just grabs it caise why not.

Let's talk about genes. Foals in S4 can be mix of their parents coats (which can be tricky sometimes and can create something ugly)

Sims 3 wins!!! So much to do with them ♥the pets EP was one of my favorites with TS3 other than Island Paradise :D EDIT: If you have cottage living with Sims 4, the horses can interact with chickens too lol :D I have a ranch family currently and they chat with each other, it's cute :D I'm not sure about rabbits or birds though as I've yet seen it.

Lo de siempre, una broma, pero al fandom parece que le da igual. Se gasta el dinero (supongo que les sobrará), se queja en redes y a la semana a nadie le importa. Un par de meses más tarde sacan otra expansión/DLC/kit lo que sea y lo mismo.

I acutally like sims 4 horses, in sims 3 you couldnt do barrel racing, the animations look better and i love the customization. sims 3 was a pain in the butt on trying to draw stuff on horses lol. and remember sims 3 horses always got stuck or constantly had to back up. (trying to create mlp in sims 4 looks more accurate that sims 3) and in hoof deail when cleaning hooves.
Yeah, people like to leave these things out. Sims 3 was very buggy and could not handle itself with this massive open World. If people don't like to play Sims 4, they shouldnt 🤷🏻♀️

Of course The Sims 3 horses are superior in every single regard. Can't wait for the simulation game competitors to release so I can dump the Sims 4 disappointment and expense.
