Here is the final railway visit during that weekend, this being more of an add on, due to being in the area. This is the Moseley Heritage Museum, a set-up in Redruth, Cornwall. Thos was another new one on me, so I was intrigued to find out what it was all about.
So the site has the main 2ft gauge railway line which gives a short ride up and back in ex miners wagons hauled by Clayton battery locos or a Motorail Simplex. There is also a 7¼ inch gauge railway but that doesn't currently appear to be working, that didn't stop the society members from having a go!
There is also a garden railway that has a live steam locomotive and a battery diesel for the younger audience to have a go at, after showing some interest in the steam, I however would be handed over the controls of the steam locomotive, a Roundhouse Engineering Lady Anne I believe, this was an interesting experience as it was not the controls I was used to, and it was a layout which kept you on your toes, having to find a happy medium to keep the locomotive running on the slight gradients on the track, harder than it looks! The staff were really friendly and up for a chat!
Indoors was the main attraction for some, on display were some of the old Meccano kits including a working tram as seen in the video, a representation of the original Volks Railway and more, it was really quite impressive, The Ferris Wheel was definitely quite a sight, it wasn't Meccano, the maker escapes my mind. In another room were the more familiar (to me) Triang and Lima layouts, with two and three rail systems on show. Some bigger G scale stuff were underneath the layouts too.
In another building was a representation of an old mine, low headroom, dark setting and all, helmets are provided and you step through looking at the conditions the miners would've had to face in the past when at work. Some rolling stock are inside and I believe winding gear is what's at the end of the mine, with a human figurine added to set the scene.

Only the model steamies were of interest to me. Ought to have stuck to them. The battery-powered diesels do nothing to entice me. Haven't those guys heard of steam power? Far better than a lack of all things smoke, steam and soot, any day.

Dude just because it’s a railway doesn’t mean it has to be steam. Powered - and just because they don’t entice you - doesn’t mean they won’t entice others 👍
