East Lancs Railway 'Railway 200' Open House Day
18/01/2025
A return to the East Lancs Railway, this time for a smaller event, their first event in their calender for Railway 200. Overhearing one of the staff, this is a new event for the ELR as well as being a new event for Railway 200, so a ELR pioneer of sorts.
So what occurred at the Open House Day? Well, they had several of their home fleet diesels on display to be able to view the cabs or sit in as was the case for the DMUs. Really did give an insight into the technology BR drivers had to deal with and the space.
Alongside this was a shuttle service between Bury Bolton Street and Summerseat, in the hands of bright purple Andrew Barclay 'JN Derbyshire' and members of the ELR shunter fleet, including the ELR debut of one of their newest acquisitions, CEGB No. 1378, affectionately known as Teslar for it is a battery locomotive!
I'm led to believe that the Class 144 was used for shuttles to Heywood and Bury outskirts.
Finally, there were driver experiences available which were really popular! I got there at roughly 10, and I only just about managed to nab the last spot on the diesel turn (steam was booked up since 9 apparently), so I got Class 08 164 'Prudence' to drive, my 3rd Class 08 driven! The LYR Pug No. 11243 was the steam for the experience until lunch when the 08 came in.
All in all, was a nicely organised event, could've probably done with more activities on the day, but we managed to find stuff to fill the time at the event. Hopefully East Lancs do try this event again in the future, it looked to be super popular and well received, just potentially stuff for next time, maybe add a few more experience slots and get MSC No. 4002 'Arundel Castle' out on more trains!😭😅
Locomotives/DMUs present were:

My Model Railway Wishlist for 2025
มุมมอง 430วันที่ผ่านมา
8/1/25 Here's the video that was promised, this was initially meant to be a short list but just gradually grew and grew. Annoyingly the majority of the models I wanted in the past have actually now been made, so it's a tough choice about whoch I can get, such as the Ruston No. 20, the PWM, S160, Bellerophon and so on😅 Regardless, here are the rest! Let me know your thoughts down in the comments...
Mid Hants Railway Steam Illuminations in SNOW!
มุมมอง 16514 วันที่ผ่านมา
4/1/25 Welcome to 2025! I didn't expect this to be my first video! I was given a unexpected last minute opportunity to ride behind the final Mid Hants Railway Steam Illuminations service with SR Battle of Britain Class No. 34072 '257 Squadron' at the head, something I was very much hoping to be the case! I had photographed the trains from the outside for a couple of years at this point, so I su...

16/23/24 December 2024 Following the unveiling of the two new Class 80 livery, I had been wanting to go see these new liveries, I rather like that the new freightliner orange livery has finally reached the Class 70s, it was about time! The Freughtliner 60 livery looks absolutely stunning on 70 008, it really suits it and makes them look more American, which is good considering they are.😅 It was...

Reading Station Trainspotting

15 November 2024 A little spotting session was had at Reading Station and Reading West, with the prospect of seeing 3 class 37s or at least, 3 opportunities for 37s and they happened. Always nice to see a 37! There was quite a lot of freight running too especially Freightliner stuff. Enjoy.

19/10/24 Another railway that was visited initially during Covid when the majority of railways were closed, so was nice to be able to have a trip on the railway at last. Originally I had intended to fit in the Corris Railway, but a mixup between Towyn and Tywyn led to it becoming a trip for another day. I managed to see all locomotives bar from No. 2 Dolgoch, which I think is not bad for a firs...

18/10/24 Finally, after visiting the Ffestiniog Railway a year or two ago, I did the Welsh Highland Railway, and I must say, it is a magnificent line, the scenery is breathtaking, through the mountains and forests and rivers, it's definitely a must do. With South African traction in focus, it's definitely a unique line. During my visit, I had No. 87, the only one of the fleet to my knowledge do...

4th May 2024 On the same day as the Ruislip Lido Steam Gala, I visited the Watford Miniature Railway, again another one I don't remember visiting but apparently have done. I was told that the last time I visited was when the railway was faced with closure, but then new ownership saved it from closure. On our short visit, we have a diesel locomotive I'd always liked the look of in pictures, this...
Great Cockrow Railway

28th July 2024 A long overdue revisit to this railway, for once a railway I don't remember previously visiting. This is the Great Cockrow Railway in Chertsey, Surrey. This is a really extensive 7¼ miniature railway, one of the biggest in terms of railway length I've seen. Together with the forests and rivers, it was a definite thumbs up from me! You have the option of two or three different lin...
Sir Nigel Gresley heading back to Crewe

23/10/24 Hot on the heels of seeing Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, we would see LNER A4 No. 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' heading home from it's starring role at the Bluebell Railway Giants of Steam Gala (video on this channel) back up to Crewe LSL Depot. We would firstly see it at Kensington Olympia, then make our way to South Kenton to see it go past, this time with the whistle, something we were hoping...

21/9/24 Now this was an unexpected surprise for the Monday, a private charter ran courtesy of Vintage Trains and GWR Castle No. 5043 and BR Class 47 773. I'm not entirely sure of the details, but I'm led to believe it ran from Tyseley to Didcot, with 47 773 leading towing the Castle in, and 5043 would lead from Didcot to Stratford Upon Avon under the 'William Shakespeare'. That's the one drawback with the Winter Timetable, there's not as much to do. However, if you had turned up earlier, you might have been able to drive a steamy. Bet you would have chosen the Andrew Barclay saddle tank engine.
semoga masuk kesini ngga ada pungli. aamiin.
That Wrenn R1 is older than you think! It is a venerable Hornby Dublo model that Wrenn continued to produce using the same tooling, so it certainly dates back to the early 1960s!
Oh blimey that is an old tooling, absolute trooper of a model tho!
Yup , completely agree on BUDGET DMUs and EMUs . Problem is a lot of modellers want all singing and dancing versions and DCC means there has to be through electrical connectivity. Like the idea of K2 too. Athoughid wants Scottish West Highland one .
Yes that is the issue nowadays, I'd just been reminded recently that a Railroad Javelin exists and I must admit, they're great value, for a modern unit. Yes, I'd think I'd go for a Scottish one too!
Two years ago, I wouldn’t know what any of that meant😂 Thanks for educating me😂
You're welcome 😂
Nice wishlist. Are you aware that Hornby are slowly but surely beginning to abandon 00 gauge in favour of TT120 scale? They're out there on their own, with hardly any new model 00 gauge engines on the cards. Therefore, their standards are slipping very badly. If you look on their website, you'll see their Beatles Train Set hasn't shifted one inch because no-one wants it. On top of this, a new Beatles train set is in the wings. I hope it gets cancelled, because likely no-one will purchase it. Hornby are in deep financial trouble, which could lead to them disappearing altogether. In short, Hornby are cancelling more new models in the wings than managing to release some of the ones advertised. Your honorable mentions will likely never see the light of day.
Their not abandoning tt120. Their still making new new locomotives for it. Please do reaserch before you comment, as you end up spreading false information
@AlfieGould-l1j Read again, Alfie. I said Hornby are slowly but surely beginning to abandon 00 gauge.

Hi Sam!
Hey Lawrence! Welcome!
I like your display of station signs.
Thank you My dad's doing, made the room a tad more railway!
Very nice, like
Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
My local station. Shame I was at work on that day as the growl of a good revving '37' has to be one of the best sounds on the railways.
Certainly a great sound!
1:38 that railway bridge has been laying in the same spot for 20 years, it's a wonder if it will ever be useable as they plan at Marsh Mills. It's not even covered to protect it.
Come back next year for a ride behind the NG15! :)
Oh don't you worry, I've been eager to come back for a ride behind 134, I did see it in the front of the shed. Love the look of them.
Great video!
Omg this is a must
This intriguing little railway has no idea that I exist!
Merry Christmas.
GOODNESS, I had no idea this intriguing little railway even existed.
Wish I could be there to watch and ride ; but Kansas City is too far away !
A pleasure to watch
Wrong sort of motive power. A steam engine ought to have been running, helps keep the passengers warm.
Attach the link to your railway with the steam engine db Just as I suspected after viewing your channel
You can’t exactly heat up roofless cosches regardless of the traction 😂
Japanese go
nice one, classic electric locomotives and carriages.
This railroad operates well with their unique American Steam Locomotive.
Certainly does, more than capable of operating their services
You did have a ride behind a stinky diesel, which I hate.
Nothing wrong with that
You gotta do what you gotta do.
7:10 arthur is so funny 🤣
that s some engine
Definitely!
There is one Standard Gauge railway here in North Wales: the Llangollen Railway. I recommend a ride along it to you. Just make sure you obey the rule to close the window, before going through Berwyn Tunnel uphill, if you're travelling behind a steam engine on a weekend day. Otherwise you will get red-hot sparks in your eyes, and told off by the TTI. If you go near the engine shed, one of my volunteer acquaintances will happily show you around as long as you stay by him at all times.
I have already made several visits to the Llangollen Railway including visits around the shed, so is not top of my list at the moment.
Like ! Beatiuful video ,greetings from Asturias
10:20 just a bit of a family arguing all because 41241 has a red coat of paint and the other one was jellos
10.10 if your loco is struggling whilst doubleheading 2 coaches think why that might be. Don't just ram it onto the second valve to make it go. I have a feeling the brakes were on 41312 as you could see the drivers moving for a second and then they stopped. That shouldnt happen, its how accidents are caused and the damage costs need to be taken into consideration. Apart from the negative of Didcot, a very good video!
nothing to do with 41312's handbrake... the engine was just being a moody little sh*t... listen to 41241. "You pain in the a**...why must you do this? how embarrassing!" 🤣
I agree 41312 was like am the better ivrt not you in your Fancy read coat
Slidy slidy slidy
Are the wheels not meant to be turning at 10:20?
Oh I see what you mean
They left the handbrake on
@@derbyshiretrainboy1884 you think there will be wheel flats

It's a glitch in the matrix 😉
Very nice.
The Dukedog shouldn't be there. She should be running on the Bluebell Railway, her true home turf. Nice that you were a driver for a fiver, and you ought to have been riding the rails all day long. That's the thrill of a special event, meaning you can ride behind every single steamy in operation if you choose to.
the cambrian is literally the dukedogs 'home turf'. its the line they were mainly used on. its academic anyway, because short of finding half a million quid it isnt running anywhere...
I've only seen one steamy on the main line, at Chester: Sir Nigel Gresley. Have you managed to capture the iconic A4 anywhere, on your travels?
I've seen 60007 in Black at SVR, I have yet to see her on the main in her blue
Locomotives, traction engines, steam cars, sentinels, what more could a steam fanatic want?
Ikr, this day was definitely a steam heaven!
Traction Engines don't impress me. Steam engines do, the Coffee Pot is OK, but I prefer the proper tank and tender engines. Nice cavalcade.
You saying a traction engine ain’t a steam engine? 😂
@@overpoweredsteamproduction513 I know Traction Engines are powered by steam, but they don't have the same charm and appeal that steam engines on rails do, for me. Traction Engines run on roads, I prefer steamies that run on rails.
Very nice video, greetings 👍🚂
I noticed an E2 tank engine in the siding near the engine shed, named Clive. The volunteers ought to repaint him blue with red stripes, complete with the yellow no. 1 on his sidetanks. They could give him a face and rename him Thomas the Tank Engine. Bet you'd love a Day Out With Thomas on this wonderful miniature gauge railway.
That's what Clive used to be😂 They stopped doing the DOWT events, so to make use of the loco, they turned it into two separate one, Clive and Florence being the results. I have attended a DOWT at ELR before they went
Go on, Orry, do the locomotion.
Annoyingly, I was in Scotland for the Western - May head towards Didcot for it next weeks though 😉 It was great meeting you the other day
Ah yes I remember you saying about Scotland, hope you do get to see it, lovely beast! Great meeting you too!

Wonder if the new build P2 will have this whistle?
'Scaldwell' is a Peckett used at the 3 feet gauge line at Lamport Quarries in Northamptonshire. I wondered where she had gone!
