      I've always thought time based would be so much better. Like, I appreciate that the challenges make you really learn the best way to use all the gadgets in the game but god damn, these challenges get really annoying.

    • @artispatterson5427
      @artispatterson5427 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Then you could cheese the maps and copy the exact same strategy you see online to get the best time for every character in every map. They should've just made the challenges worth completing. What if completing a maps challanges as a non Batman character would grant them a skill point for their own unique skill tree?? Catwoman could be upgraded alongside Batman to a lesser extent in arkham city so imagine if they did that for the arkham knight characters! This would def give players a real reason to give af about attempting map challenges for each playable character.

      @@artispatterson5427 But the issue isn't cheesing, it's that the challenges are fucking boring lmao. A time trial would actually be fun because it doesn't control exactly how you play, it's just asking you to play well.

    I get both sides of the argument about the predator challenge maps, me personally, these challenge maps in a way enhances your playing style when playing the game, by you doing the tasks required, it then shows you a new way of taking out an enemy, and my favourite part is that you can then do the challenges in such a quick succession that even though it does sound very cliche, it makes you feel like Batman, and being able to develop your own way playing it enables you to have your own batman compared to anyone else

  • @handgun559

    Knight fixed this problem a little bit with the voice synth. You could force enemies into a really specific spot, at least 2-3 times. The previous games had the sonic baterang but it had a charge time, could be destroyed, and was unreliable at placing enemies. They'd stand near it, not directly where you told them.

    I have a love-hate relationship with the predator maps.
    On one hand, it is the part of the game. I constantly replay because I love predator sections in the Arkham games. The other hand I do wish you had more freedom to do whatever you want without the game pretty much telling you “man you suck” at the end. Certain characters I just don’t play as in the predator maps because I know for a fact they objectives which just make the level un-fun.
    I wish there was a way to turn off the achievements and just have it be a time based mission. Or better yet just get rid of any objective besides clearing the room without being killed.
    This is why endless night is probably my favorite map in the series. The game just tells you to take out as many enemies as possible, and even when you inevitably die, it doesn’t feel like you failed, but instead it’s a challenge to do better next time
    So the missions that are a bit more relaxed when it comes to objectives are definitely my preferred levels. But with this being said, I also don’t mind the objectives since that allows me to figure out how to optimize the missions to either get them out of the way quickly, or to work them in in between more unique takedowns and get the best time I can in the process

    Although I agree with it's usually best to just watch a guide I think the idea is testing your skill and knowledge of the games aspects. Like the combat challenging you to get the best score possible has to involve variation with that even if not explicitly told so. Because especially with knight challenges, which I've done all of they're very subjective and obnoxious when trying to do what I did with them, doing all possible challenges with every character it's very restricted when it comes to some parts and sometimes near impossible without a guide like with harley especially for them.

    Before I started to do all the challenge maps in these games, I thought the predator challenges would be like: Take out all enemies, never get caught, do it in x amount of time
    But after realizing that all the challenges are just do x move, I didn't initially mind, but doing some of the challenges in City made me pull me hair out because some of these challenges require to take a certain enemy out and a specific position because else the enemy would never be lined up again for that challenge.

    I’m glad someone talked about this. I love predator maps but I also hate them sometimes because of how stupid the AI can be as well as the challenges. I think it’d be a lot more fun if it was high score based, like a silent takedown is 25 points and special takedowns are 50, fear take downs are 75, etc,

  • @cotopaximusic

    I think the objectives are fine in this case because you can have your options within the story and choose how to take rooms out in the game, and these are specifically just seperate challenges. The difference between this and Assassin's Creed is the fact that the optional objectives in AC are story related instead of separate challenges

  • @bradenhogan2
    @bradenhogan2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Here’s what’s both great and half-baked about Arkham Predator:
    Batman’s stated goal is to make criminals afraid. Fear is turned into an adaptive difficulty in these games… sort of. The more people in a room Batman takes out silently (in other words, the more efficiently you beat the encounter), the quicker and more afraid the criminals will get. You as the player are aligned with Batman because you both want to do well and make enemies afraid
    The catch is that the more afraid enemies become, the more quickly and sporadically they move, and the more often they look behind them. This all makes it slightly more difficult to sneak up to them and take them down. If you go into an encounter guns-a blazing, the fight will take longer to advance, which means it will take longer for criminals to reach the sporadic, “terrified” state. You get punished with longer times for less efficient play, but you get challenged with more sporadic and varied enemy behavior earlier if you take them out quickly
    The better you do, the game gets slightly harder
    This effect is neutered by the fact that in the games after Asylum, you’re given so many gadgets that the last 1-2 guys being in “Terrified” state aren’t much of a threat because you can disable or disarm their gun, or do any other number of things. This could’ve been balanced better, at least on higher difficulties - perhaps putting more enemy types that force you to use your disruptor and smoke early on and allowing more enemies to reach the “Terrified” state at the same time, but the system is still great on a conceptual level
    I just wish they pushed this mechanic to a further extreme. I always trash Origins for not doing new stuff, but imagine it implemented something like the nemesis system in the Mordor series where the better you get at quickly and stealthily taking out enemies in predator encounters, the more quickly enemies become spooked in general and it gets more difficult to maintain the same level of play. A year 2 game would suit itself perfectly to this because your actions as the player would directly affect Batman’s early development as a legend, which affects how the game plays out. They could’ve had enemies that were more easily alerted to you, they could’ve had pre-activated mines/traps for players that did well where some players wouldn’t have that, and they could’ve thrown more enemies of different variations in while players on the lower end would see less enemies and more standard enemies. This system would’ve simultaneously prevented the criticism that the game didn’t do anything to innovate and also gave the game it’s own unique place in the Arkham series - both things it desperately lacked and needed. It also would’ve mechanically justified the game’s existence as a prequel instead of just being Arkham City but set earlier in his career
    Great mechanic, perfect for Batman - wish more people noticed it’s depth and potential!

    The pathing is definitely the worst part of the predator maps. Sometimes they just don't react how you expect them to and they completely ruin your strat. • @aler8343
    @aler8343 ปีที่แล้ว

    i personally feel the challenges make the maps more interesting, in the main game nothing holds you to just do silent takedowns and complete the section in 5 minutes, but the challenges forces you to use critical thinking about ur gadgets and the thugs patterns, you have to study their movements and how they react to it, that's the truest batman experience, the "prep time", and as you see there are people who complete it in 40-50 seconds and the masters who complete it in 20-5 seconds, so i don't think is holding you back or making you slower, in my case it forced me to think and play better rather than just use smoke granades all the time with multi fear takedowns, because after 50 "kills" in endless knight thats all you can do to keep rising the numbers, i still love that map dont get me wrong but you can't talk about "i want to be batman" when you want the gameplay to be mindless takedowns

    Speaking as someone who got really dedicated to the predator challenges (ranked top 100 on the endless knight leaderboard):
    I think it would have just been way better if you could have chosen between time trials, time and challenges, and endless knight on all maps.
    Challenges often really stifle gameplay. I found some maps (like robins one in a half-built skyscraper) really fun because you have to plan it like a puzzle, but others were **very** stale because their ideas of a challenge just get tedious, often the case for the maps alternate characters, and like the video mentions a lot of it requires set-up for RNG or spamming stuff like the freeze grenade and bat-claw to to position them, which ruins your time.
    If you had the option of challenges and time based ranking, time based rankings, and endless knight ranking, I’d reliably find the 2 that weren’t included a lot of fun, and find 1 of them occasionally worth the hassle.
    EDIT: Also, before it was patched Arkham knights predator matches only started timing you when you were seen, not when you were known (took out the first enemy, had a gadget noticed, etc) so all leaderboards are incredibly slow with glitched runs that can’t be replicated, and it means endless knight is the only map you could get a high ranking on today.

    3. Specialty challenges

    I like 'em. It's like a puzzle. How am I gonna get all these stars in one run? How do I position myself and the thugs? Where should I place my traps? How do I do all this is a set time limit? Stuff like that. That's why I really like Arkham Asylum's Silent Knight Extreme Map as it wants you to take out three thugs with three different walls with explosive gel at the same time, so I spent time trying to figure it out, really squeeze the level layout and seeing what works, and eventually know enough where I can do it all as well as the other stars all in one run and when you finally do that it's satisfying af. You learnt and examined the level to it's core and now you can get all three stars in one swoop like the World's Greatest Detective would. It's really satisfying. Sure, some are kinda shit like Top of the World Extreme but what can ya do? I also really liked Arkham Knight's Uncontainable and High Flyers maps as due to their stars, I had to keep a mental note and plan ahead on what to do in order to get the stars. Pretty neat.
    Also, if I wanted to do whatever I wanted I could always just ignore the star challenges, which I also very frequently do.

    Predator maps should reward you based on time, times spotted and variety similar to combat maps

    Going to be honest. Might sound stupid but I think there should maybe be like a sandbox mode where you choose whatever map and whatever character you’ve discovered like scarecrow, death stroke etc… you can play as in it but the game chooses the Militia and stuff. Like maybe a practice mode is what I’m trying to say

    I dig the pred maps. Its like having the story broken up into bite size chunks and endlessly revisit-able without starting an entire new game.
    You are only ‘forced’ to play a certain way once, for the challenges. And you dont ‘fail’ if you dont do them.
    They give you multiple ’rooms’ filled with bad guys to jump into whenever and as often as you like.
    All the challenges can be worked out with some time and observation.
    Learning the proper order of things is half the point imo. Watching guides takes away half the challenge. Im not surprised people get bored of them if they are only doing half the ‘work’ andnot learning the map for themselves.
    Each to their own i guess, but imo, the more maps the better. Give us a map representing every encounter in the story.

    I think for me personally, i really struggle to rack up the points on combat challenges - theyre the only reason i havent 100%'ed all the games. Predator Challenges are nice and easy - and if you struggle you can follow along someone elses strategy. Combat challenges are unpredictable, so you can't really follow someone elses attempt

    I enjoyed them in Asylum, City and Origins. But they became way too big, complicated and tedious in Arkham Knight. I 100% the first 3 games, didn't play them much in Knight

      I'd agree on City if they hadn't made Riddler campaigns a thing. Playing through City with its cramped rooms and limited-use gadgets was way more of a headache than Knight.

    I fully agree with you. I understand why they made it the way they did but it kills my want to do them when the challenges are so specific. There’s a reason I have 3 stars on a lot of the combat but not the predator

    On your last video saying what you would want on an Arkham Origins sequel, I gave my list of Arkham games from favorite to least favorite, not including knight. Well, playstation is now giving you free games for ps+, one being Knight. I have completely over 50% of the game and honestly, it's tied with first place for City. It would be first, but the batmobile/tank sections every other mission is annoying

    I just wish they made more Predator Maps that are more flexible for Harley Quinn. They seem like they’re tailored more towards Batman, Catwoman, Nightwing, Robin and Red Hood. It’s especially difficult with her Loud Takedowns when it comes to alerting enemies and then immediately finding you. It’s upsetting when they’re not many areas to escape from enemies with Harley Quinn.😂😂

    Tbh Jay, I feel challenge maps in Arkham are really there to frustrate people Medals and Riddler lmao, unless its batman but as another playable character I've had to restart many challenges I saw two people standing next to each other for a ledge takedown nothing appeared and not just that either because I've had opportunities to take down certain enemies or more or how ever many there are or even how the objectives told me too its complicated! but Its just not for me, I want emersion, storytelling I wanna appreciate the map and just free roam the beautiful Gotham city like Rocksteady said we would! There are things they knew they could have made up for in future games but decided to show laziness instead! The characters in the game lost out big time and its truly what I would call a mockery, Nothing wrong with campaigns or modifiers I will admit I like the added challenge if its Batman its very rare I say this, It gets you to Think & approach the fight differently, remove gadgets, add time limit, remove detective mode, no health throughout challenge, add mines and then henchmen are more vicious & more brutal etc If your playing as Batman your essentially Training or testing yourself for NewGame+ its not any different from Free Roam we know Robin can get around, he can glide around Arkham too like we know he can. DLCs are included too boost the games (marketing) it doesn't really benefit my experience when I play through them like, My argument is just Add on characters to play when The games completed! Less complications

    Generally what I do is just play through them to see how fast I can be. I will sporadically try to get the objectives just because I like the challenge of trying to play in a more restricted way. Also just to see if I can do it.

    Mostly with predator I run the challenges through once to get the medals, then for replay I just do what I want each time mostly just using silent takedowns and trying not to get seen and scaring them Batman Begins style. Some of the challenges are pretty egregious though such as the one in Arkham Asylum where you need to detonate three seperate walls on three seperate guys at the same time. Took me about 9/10 years to 100% Arkham Asylum due to the difficulty of that. Same as with the Arkham City campaigns I’ve never been able to finish due to the modifiers enforced on you through it. I replay a lot more combat as thats not restrictive, just score as many points as you can and get good combos

  • @tomdotson56
    @tomdotson56 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would keep the challenges but make them optional. You can either complete the challenge map by doing the challenges, beating the thugs as quickly as you can(not time based) or just beat them in general. More points for doing the first two though. Options.

    I like predator maps as coming back to the world without starting a new game, but yeah, scoring for time would be better, I remember spending around 30 minutes once, because the goons just didn't want to come under the glass roof.
    But still, predator ones are better than combat for me, I can beat every enemy, but because I don't use gadgets or get combos, I get 2 medals max

    I much prefer the predetor maps oft her spiderman challenges. In Spiderman games it is so easy to cheese the challeneges because it is mission based. Just find the right path since the enemies don't react at all and get behind them and then take them out in sucession or spam gadgets. Where as the Arkham challenge maps are so much mroe challenging which make it harder to cheese and are so rewarding to complete because of the challenge.

    i feel like they couldve done it by score. there is a stopwatch and the longer it is the less points you have but the more variation you have the more points you get. it would still give the player a lot of freedom while also being a good challenge. obviously extreme maps would just be a higher score to 3 star

    I find the predator ones annoying too. I don't know why they didn't try to replicate the formula of the combat challenges. For e.g. Variation, gadget, environmental, time etc.

    I like some challenges I'm not a fan of alot of the stealth ones. But I think it would of had more potential if these goals were not mandatory. And it ended up being like what I'm saying but it's too late I'm late to the party saying this. I'd prefer this whole thing was just something in the main game. You activate it and you go in. But instead of like you said mandatory to complete you fail your bad at the end try again. You can instead be given the challenges in game and its your choice to complete them and it rewards you for various ways of completion. The batmobile mini games they made you do in Arkham knight I wish all them mini missions with it wasn't mandatory to complete the game.
