Five years later and my Roof Boxer V8 has finally given up the ghost. Nothing wrong with the shell; the chin piece won't flip back, though. Wear and tear. I frantically started looking for this Shoei helmet, although I didn't know it was a Shoei. It's taken about an hour. I just remembered the one I wanted being yellow. Available at my German supplier to other EU countries. Good to watch this review again. The best on here. Just watched another two or three. Hope you're well. Nick

Great review....so I bought one😁 I love the open face, but now I have protection from bugs and stones. One thing you didn’t mention is that there is actually air channels in the EPS for the air to pass over your head and out through the back. I love it❤️❤️❤️
It is interesting to mention that considering it is a Shoei, you can bring it to most of your Shoei retailers and have it fitted perfectly to your head using Shoei's 'Personal Fitting System'.
Good review! Aesthetically I prefer the Moto 3. Bell lost a great opportunity reintroducing it with no shield or vents.. Shoei picked up the ball and ran with it. Nice helmet.

You also spoke highly of the By City helmets and was wondering if you have tried on any of their jackets? Looking at the Sahara for the scorching summers we have in Southern California. Size charts seem to be useless these days. A 44" chest differs tremendously from Merlin to Fuel to Helston to Belstaff. Thanks again for all the terrific reviews.
Hi Man cave , I thoroughly enjoyed you ‘test’ on the Ex zero. I bough one a few weeks ago , the colourful white one. I agree with you ,it’s a summer helmet,not much more . Mine came with the peak but even though it looks great on, I thought it made the helmet noisy. I suppose that’s my biggest gripe - I find the helmet rather noisy and in fact I’m considering buying ear plugs ! I only have Shoei full face flip up helmets which are much heavier but in my opinion much better in every sense albeit twice the price. My next step is to get extra thick cheek padding,maybe this will make the helmet quieter. By the way,the visor is great 👍
How does it compare against the newly released Bell, which is the helmet that it is copying, aesthetically? Snell, ECE and DOT certification? Features etc?
Much the same, other than this helmet has the added benefit of the pull down visor. Both helmets are ECE22.06 and DOT rated depending on your location.

Hi Tony, thanks for the review. Seems to me that it's a serious drawback of this otherwise nice looking helmet that the visor doesn't close completely, allowing wind through. I don't see the point on a full face helmet of a non fully closing visor. I would have been interested in it but am put off by that.
It's essentially an open face 'mx' styled helmet, but with the addition of a pull down visor. Think of it in the same family as the Bell Moto 3, DMD seventyFive etc. So I view the visor as an advantage rather than a drawback.

I do have a question to the owners of this nice helmet. How is it with the wind when you are driving? Does it pull your head to the side because of the jaw part been a bit out?
After watching this video, it solidified my want to buy one, so i did!! I live in Canada, and they don't sell it here, so i got it from a place in Germany. Once it got here, after the joy of owning this bad ass bmx racer of a helmet, I went looking for the safety rating, you know DOT, SNELL, ECE.. ETC.. i know the rating system is different everywhere, it just hadn't even thought of asking. I noticed the one you have doesn't have dot sticker in the back. Is it that tag on the chin strap? I just want to know so if I get pulled over and they notice I don't have a DOT sticker I can show the cop the proper marking and perhaps get away with it. Sorry about the long winded walk around the neighborhood way of getting to my question
Hi thanks for the comment. Sadly I don't think the helmet does actually have a DOT rating. The tag in the chin strap doesnt show a rating! Maybe you need to find a DOT sticker ;)
Does the helmet like being at 80 mph? I know you mentioned the air whirling issues, I was thinking of wearing some mc glasses so keep that eye watering effect.
@@Magnus-pm7ic I've only had my hands on a pre-production version of the Glamster for a few minutes so hard to say.... BUT I would say that the fit and construction would be very similar. Apart from the Chin bar, they look to be a very similar shape. So the major difference is going to be the full sealed visor on the glamster....
Hi ive a shoei j.o in size small. It fits ok, I went to try on the ex zero today same size as the jo, when i put it on, it was super tight and really hard to get off. Does it break in after a while when wearing it a few times??
Great review... I have the ex zero....and agree with your views...great quality the turbulence at speed is there but easy to use sunglasses or I use motocross goggles on some rides....all with the added safety of the chin bar so you get the open face feel with the peace of mind. I have also now got a glamster..would recommend the shoei lids ......and I have had all sorts of lids over last 30+ years..
Very similar with the exception of the pull down visor of course. The Shoei feels a bit plusher and more ‘premium’ I would say. They also have different fits, I prefer the Shoei because it fits me much better. The Bell was a bit more round
No chin curtain, permanently open vents, internal visor provides 90% cover leaving your nose to take bugs. I've owned one since 2021 and as much as I like the look, as a helmet it's pretty crap.
Views from the Man Cave question. I’m a 59-60cm with a large forehead. The size chart says to go with Large but I normally wear XL on my other helmets. How exact to size is this helmet? Also how much bigger is the shell of the helmet from a L to an XL? Don’t want mushroom head as with my other helmets.

It’s a much lower profile than the Custom 500. I had the same problem

With no full visor, you will get wet. The drop down shield keeps it out of your eyes though

Yep that’s what it’s all about, the better the fit and comfort then the more enjoyable the helmet will be. The moto3 is a great helmet too

Have you tested the helmet with an intercom set ? if so is it to noisy to talk to people or to listen to music?

A lot of that will come down to fit, they are quite different. I think the Shoei is better finished, but it’s more expensive
How is the fit over your nose ? Does your nose stick out of the front ? I have tried on this helmet alot but cant decide if it fits my nose !
I assume you’re referring to the pull down visor? If so, you can adjust how far down they visor comes.

For me yes, and I love the Moto 3. The Bell is closer to its original, but the finish, comfort and features of the Ex Zero Trump it

You would need to define 'better', but in terms of safety I would say they are no different, its essentially the same shell.

Views from the Man Cave question. I’m a 59-60cm with a large forehead. The size chart says to go with Large but I normally wear XL on my other helmets. How exact to size is this helmet? Also how much bigger is the shell of the helmet from a L to an XL? Don’t want mushroom head as with my other helmets.

I find this helmet very noisy; but that's obvious due to the huge eye port 😂

Looks like a motocross helmet its not the nicest, looks half decent from the rear thats about it not for me i'm afraid.
Is IS a remake of a classic 80’s motocross Helmet! But obviously horses for courses and all that
